Take a step into Christmas Past
The novel "Ethan Fromme" paints a bleak picture of life in a wintry landscape. But Alcott finds joy, hope, optimism, and redemption in the same harsh conditions. The secret is in the characters' love for each other, and in their security in their place in the world. I enjoyed this account of a festive holiday in days of yore. If you like a peek into the Yuletide via Irving or Dickens, I think you'll want to add this to your holiday collection.
    Very enjoyable
Sweet story with a ;ovely look at an earlier time.
    Old fashioned Holiday fun
A funa and quick story for the Holidays, fun period characters and happy ending.
    Five Stars
Really fun to read at Christmas time.
    A Country Christmas
Since it was by Louisa May Alcott, I thought I would enjoy it, but it was a bit simple. Not a bad book, just did
    not really hold my interest.

An eye into everyday life during Mao's reign.
My children and I loved this book. It was a good pace and long enough to accompany us on a few of our monthly, hour long trips.
The characters were relatable, especially for my 9 & 10 year old. The story was appropriate for their age, although near the end it did get a little intense.
We really liked the performance and all of the different voices she did. My daughter thought there was more than one person, because the voices sounded so distinct.
    Wonderfully deep and moving story
Being born in a communist country myself, but haven't known how the whole "conversion" started and only seeing the consequences it was moving to hear a story of someone from another country, who witnessed the start of it and narrated it with a child's openness and uncorrupted mind. Incredibly moving story about human stupidity and human heroism on the other side. Beware though - if you are easily moved/even if you are not - do not listen while driving your car. I couldn't see the road as tears were streaming from my eyes...

    Not my favorite Clements book
I bought this one to listen to with my daughter and while I wasn't disappointed, I don't think it was one of his best. Also, I didn't know that this is book 2 of a trilogy. I wish we had listened in order. The narrator was good. Side note: I wonder if anyone has counted how many times Clements uses the word "because" in this book. My estimate is 9 billion.

    READ THE REVIEWS :D
I've loved listening to these stories and was soon to be very upset with Brian for his poor narration. Then I read the reviews... and listened clear through. Loved it. Just goes to show it's good to read the reviews :D Some stuttering, coughing (wonder if he had a cold) for a prologue but once chapter one starts it is a very well narrated story. Happy Listening.
    A great read
The opening is a little odd (the author coughs and seems disoriented in his reading)! But never mind that. Afterward, it is a great listen.
    don't be put off
Initially I was extremely critical with Brian Jacques narration as he is stuttery and coughs in the first 10 mins. He quickly warms up and delivers a wonderful rendition of an excellant story that kept me spellbound and not wanting to remove my earplugs. His characters are easily discernable and full of colour. I love this story and the excellant narration.
There's a reason Brian Jacques has sold millions!
This is like listening to a live BBC story. really well done, great, diverse sounding cast and music. Brian Jacques has sold over 20 million books and theres a reason for that: he knows how to write a good story! i breezed through this in just a couple of days.
some of the other reviews mention that the first 10 minutes or so were not edited properly - which is correct. after that first small bit, the editing is very smooth.
    Amazing!!!!!!
I had been looking for this book in libraries and bookstores without success when I finally came across it on the audible store. I immediately bought it. It is really intriguing just like all of his books. However, in the first ten minutes or so he seems a little disoriented and coughs. But I still LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it

Great Book for a Road Trip
I bought this book for a road trip with my children (ages 10 and 12). I have to say it was great, the narrator's voice is charming and the story kept the kids completely interested the whole time. It was one of the easiest 6hr trips we've taken in a long time. Though the book is for young adults the parents will like it too. Really fast paced and generally fun to listen to. Must buy for that long drive.
    Loved it!
I loved this fast paced book - though it appeared as if it were a series of short stories strung together (one short story in itself, an interlude, a longer short story and then a novella) rather than a novel. Children and adults both will enjoy this tale of the two investigators from the Counter Curse division of the IEA. It is fantasy at its best with a talking dog, orgres, magic, elves and even a dragon.
Although it may be a bit violent for very young children, it is a good story for a long drive. I particularly enjoyed the vivid descriptions of the different types of transportation in this world. (Like all the best amusement park rides.)
The only thing that I didn't care for is the portrail of female characters. There were very few of them and they were typically silly and/or incompetent.
    Earworthy Book
Great find. My 11 year old son and I enjoyed this book. Great to listen to even when not driving. :) For any aspiring wizard this is a must read. Er, Listen.
    wasn't for me
Barely remember it, just didn't click. I usually do alright with YA novels but this was just not engaging for me.
Very good for a young audience
my kids are 9, 6, and 5. They all loved this book. not bad for me as well. pretty good story for the family. nice and clean.

Set in the 1930s, when the devastating effects of World War I are still resonating throughout the world, Peter Pan in Scarlet takes listeners on an unforgettable journey fraught with danger. All is not well. Dreams and nightmares are leaking out of Neverland as it chafes against the Here and Now, wearing holes in the fabric in between. Somehow, Time is moving on where Time was never meant to go. Fearing for Peter Pan's life, Wendy and the Lost Boys find their way back to Neverland with the help of the fairy Fireflyer, only to discover adventure waiting in ambush and their worst nightmares coming true in the most unexpected ways!
The Special Trustees of Great Ormand Street Hospital for Children, who own the copyright to Peter Pan, marked that work's centenary by authorizing the creation of a new novel that would share the same characters as the original and bring as much pleasure to children and adults around the world as has Peter Pan. The result of a worldwide search to find just the right author for this special sequel is Peter Pan in Scarlet by the renowned and multi-award-winning Geraldine McCaughrean.

Great book for and Lost girl or boy!
This is an amazing story with so many twists and turns. Id listen to it a million times over, and I've just purchased the hardback copy!!
    Loved it
A wonderful story and great narration by Mr. Curry. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book.
A Dark and Unpleasant Take On Neverland
While some of the story elements were charming or interesting, the whole story was disappointing. It was disjointed and strange, but not in a fun way. The author clearly does not like or understand children. It was like "Peter Pan" meets "Lord of the Flies". Peter Pan is an unpleasant bully here, and too much real life (war, environmental poison) intrude on Neverland. Not for children, but not for adults either, this story was pretty unsatisfying. Well read by Tim Curry though.

    Publisher's Summary:
In "Top Secret", a boy, attempting to win a trophy at a school science fair, transforms himself into a human plant. His formula is then declared a top-secret threat to national security.
    Editorial Reviews:
Reading this story is a treasured rite of passage for school-age students. Few forget the dogsled race in which Willy faces Stone Fox in a chilling testimony of determination and love. Few students, however, have a similar knowledge of Gardiner's Top Secret, a poke-fun look at the school science fair scene that also champions individual creativity and fortitude. To B.D. Wong's credit, he narrates each of Gardiner's stories in a unique manner. Wong narrates with quiet reverence, respecting the power of the story and the bond among boy and dog and grandfather without imposing himself into the relationships. For the second selection, Wong playfully creates personas for Allen Brewster, his archetypal science teacher, his nemesis, and each supporting character.
    Critic Reviews:
    "Delightful." (School Library Journal)
"A treasured rite of passage for school-age students." (AudioFile)
"Gardiner's description of the race and sudden climax (based on legend) is fast-paced and enveloping." (School Library Journal)

    Great Audiobook
Great book!! I play it in my classroom for kids to follow along. Fast shipping, and no problems. :)
Sad ending as expected, but abrupt cut off of story a surprise
The quality of the recording is great, as is the narration - 5 stars there. I read the reviews about this book having a sad ending and it is indeed a very sad, but touching story. I was disappointed however, because the sad event occurs and then the book feels like is very abruptly ends. Perhaps when you are reading it, rather than listening to it being read, you can see you are nearing the end of the book and it won't be a surprise when it ends. Listening to it was different and I felt surprised it ended as it did. I found myself wishing for some additional lines to wrap the story up. It would have been nice to have the satisfaction of hearing some happy details after the sad ones. Still it is a good story. However, I don't know if my animal-loving daughters will want to listen to it after I warn them about the sad event.
    Five Stars
Great double story CD. My class really enjoyed these stories.
    Five Stars
    Perfect
    Stone Fox!
I didn't like Stone Fox because of all the sad situations at the end. My favorite part was when a lot of caring at the end. the lesson I learned was always take the time to help someone else. I think I should recomend this book to someone that likes dog sled races because this book has two. If you like dog sled races you'll like this book.AP12 I realy like stone fox because it's realy intresting even though there are some sad parts but i think it's still good. My favorite part is when little willy enters a race. I think the lesson i learned is to never give up like when he never gave up on selling his farm when every one agreed sell the farm. I would reccomend this book to someone because there are some intresting parts happy parts even some sad parts. AP12

    Critic Reviews:
"A thoughtful and thought-provoking novel." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
Excellent fiction centered around World War I
With Lord of the Nutcracker Men Iain Lawrence provides readers with an engaging story that focuses on how war, through the experiences of Johnny Briggs's and his family, affects its participants and those left behind. In addition, lovers of historical fiction will find that Lawrence's work accurately reflects the time period in which he sets the novel. Using letters from the front, though fictional, Lawrence cogently blends Johnny's experiences with those of his mother's and father's efforts to, in their own way, contribute to the war effort providing readers with a panoramic view the conflict. Lord of the Nutcracker Men, I think, represents a worthwhile read for those who enjoy history, fiction, or a combination of the two.
    Five Stars
    great and quick delivery
    10 year old loved it!
My 10 year old is a great reader but we struggle to find books that he finds interesting. This is a great book that teaches about WWI, has a great story and which held his attention throughout!
    Good Read
I felt this book was well written and told a good story about a family being directly impacted by war. It is told somewhat by Johnny but also through his Aunti Ivy. The symbolism that is used in the carved figures by his father is great. The author describes some the conditions of trench warfare to give some ides. Overall it will keep your attention and wanting to learn more about the that event WWI.
    Lord of the Nutcracker men
Suspension .................. I love the intensity of the book . It was not as Boring as it was in the beginning of the book.

    a wonderful biography
this is the perfect book for someone wanting to learn about Queen Elizabeth I and doesn't know that much about her early life, up til the death of her father King Henry VIII. It explains the friction between Elizabeth and her sister "Bloody" Mary, as well some nice insight into the boyhood of the future King Edward VI and Lady Jane Grey.
It also belongs on the shelf of any anglophile.
    Elizabeth I
Full of everyday facts of how life was during her life as a 11,12,13,to 14 year old girl. It keeps you so intrested you hate to walk away when you have to.
    Lovely
My child listens to this every night at bedtime. Falls to sleep to it. These books -- the entire series -- are such a fun way for girls to learn history!
    Cute
This isn't what you would think it to be however, it is a very cute book to listen to. It provides you with a viewpoint of things that took place that you would not normally see from an adults view point. Either way if you like books from the Tudor timeline this is a good book.
    Elizabeth 1
Great book I loved how it felt as if Elizabeth had feelings and not just portrayed her as a figurehead. Elizabeth's diary made her seem more real. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves experiencing history through the eyes of an actual person
