Comprehensive?

The title seems misleading; I certainly wouldn't label it comprehensive. It seems this is a bunch of disconnected blog posts and articles turned into an audiobook (narrator actually says "this post" and "this article"). There also seems to be duplicate/repetitive/overlapping content. This isn't worthless, but, in my opinion, there are many more valuable resources for the money.

This book was first published in 1886 and is now in the public domain. This free Kindle edition has 2697 locations, this is about the same as 120 pages in print. This review is about the free German e-book edition.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844-1900) had studied theology (which he didn't finish) and philology (the study of language in written historical scources); he became a professor of philology at the university of Basel in 1869, but had to resign in 1879 due to ill health. Nietzsche collapsed in 1889, causing him to become mentally ill, and needed to be cared for until his death in 1900. It has been thought that his collapse was caused by syphilis, but this diagnosis is no longer believed to be correct. The cause of his illness is not known.

In this work Nietzsche critises old philosophers and some of their views on 'free will', knowledge, truth, etc. He felt that the philosophers in the past had not been critical enough about morality, accepting the Chistian views on this theme without questioning those views. Nietzsche tells in this book what qualities philosophers should have, he believed philosophers should move on, into the area 'beyond good and evil'.

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in modern philosophy, this book will make you think about some of your ideas about good and bad. You don't have to agree with him to gain new insight from this book. Nietzsche was a great writer, his works are written in a lively way. For Nietzsche rhetoric was more important than logic. As a sample of his way of writing I copy a few lines from this volume at the bottom of this review. This book was written in the 19th century, so the language is a bit dated.

A favorite book

Walden was one of my favorite books as a young man. I love the fact that now that it is in the public domain I can read it for free. As a visually impaired reader I MUST have my books in the Kindle format so that I can read/listen to them on my Kindle and also read them is super size font on my computer.

As I re-read this seminal book I was reminded of all of the reasons I first loved this book. It will cause you to reflect not only upon your life but upon the planet we all share.

Kindle formatting is acceptable. Not perfect but when a book is free how can I complain.

Youth is truly wasted on the young.

This standard classic holds up even better after 40 years of studying it in student days. One gets much more out of it now. I even find myself re-reading paragraphs. Youth is truly wasted on the young. It can still change your life.

It's a fascinating glimpse into another time that's particularly relevant to today's pathological need to climb the ladder of "success" as high and as quickly as possible. There is another way to live... you do have a choice.

Such a classic book, it should be in everyone's library--digital or physical. Great character development and thought provoking narrative by Thoreau; overall a must-read!

Font is so small ...it is impossible to read.

I was really excited to read this book, but once it arrived... I was very disappointed. The font was about a size 7. It is impossible to see or read. I should have looked at the publishing company and not the price. Guess you get what you pay for.
