Insightfully Practical and Realistic

This book is a possible life changer for the person who is a prisoner of their feelings; ie someone who won't do something that needs to be done because they don't feel like it, or someone who thinks they need to "fix" their feelings in order to live a more fulfilling life. Sound like anyone you know? You can definitely add me to that list. Constructive Living (CL) blows these concepts out of the water and puts reality back in our own pocket. It teaches acceptance of feelings no matter what they are for they are not controllable, and what is controllable is what we DO in life. It also puts into perspective how much we take from the world and how little we give back. These concepts are humanized by giving a few simple exercises to really Do the practice, for in CL to know is to do.

The author has a very clear, pleasant, melodic voice similar to that of Adyashanti, and the recording is of professional standard quality. This singular book has made me challenge everything I know about psychotherapy. Get it!

Absolute necessity for change

I've struggled with self help books in the past because they focus on our emotions and how we are feeling in the moment. This approach can often slow down or stall much needed personal progress. By learning the difference between what we can and cannot control and be flexible to accept what is but still do what needs to be done, we can accomplish our goals. I will be listening to this book at least 5 more times because there is so much wisdom to be taken in!

Practical and Honest.

There are few books that will help an individual as much as Constructive Living will.

A Sleeper

The narrator was so drab the whole time that it made it hard to concentrate because you just wanted to drift into sleep. If you're going to have a listen, prep yourself for a meditative moment with this book, be prepared to completely be relaxed while trying to concentrate on absorbing all the essential info. I think the information was good but the delivery, to no fault of his own because that's just who the narrator is, he can't help that that's the way he talks. It could have been better.

Learned so many strategies I can use daily!

A good read. A fun read. An essential read! Body Intelligence teaches you how to be wholly synced by using a âmatter over mindâ (or body over mind) approach. The author explains that our bodies are continuously influenced by many types of energy found all around us such as: light, sound, color, scent, words, memories, and that when we better understand these energies, we can tap into them to regulate our own energy up or down and anywhere between. Central to achieving this, is the daily practice of awareness- understanding our own energy rhythms, positive and negative influences, being mindful of energy sources around us and identifying which will produce the desired outcome. Iâm finding that Cardillo's âmatter over mindâ method serves me quite well in comparison to pushing through my day with âmind over matterâ philosophy. Thereâs a more natural flow to taking cues from the body and feeding it with the energy it needs. I found an abundance of tools in the book to positively impact daily living, deepen my experiences and help with life stressors (even migraine headaches). The chapter exercises and practices are great. It will be fun to make up pocket cards of my favorites. Body Intelligence is easy to read and hard to put down! Since between 18-25% of the population is regularly seeking help for the many mental health illnesses and personality disorders (an average based on statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health), it is no surprise that narcissists make up such a large percentage of the population.

Do not recommend....

This book has some relevant points, but most information was based on assumption. Seemed to be written from a narrow, first-person standpoint. Did not elaborate on different types of narcissists. I RECOMMEND READING "PSYCHOPATH FREE" if you're wanting to learn more about narcissists and abusive people. Everything in that book is SPOT ON!

She hit every angle and helped solidify the meanings of each processes in trauma bonding. It's already a mind boggling concept, but the book simplifies it.

Learning strategies

This book had plenty of information of how NOT TO study foreign language but very little in the way of learning strategies. There are a few, and maybe there are more but they are easily forgotten due to complicated, vague, convoluted explanations. If you're looking for how the mind works when acquiring a foreign language, benefits of studying a foreign language, or why certain things you've done in the past have often times been helpful, this book is fine. Just don't expect the authors to give you examples of best practices to retain conversational foreign language competencies in long term memory.

Interesting audiobook for language learners

One of the best audiobook about learning new language. The techniques in the book also can be used to study and prepare for new materials. Using cognitive science in order to recall old and new memories learned through the years. I do recommend it for all the learners.

Yes - a bit heady at times, but cool research and presentation

What did you like best about this story?

I found the topics of the narrative self especially in the context of Alzheimers and schizophrenia the most interesting. My running fascination with the similarities of word choice and characterization of those describing a mystical experience in the religious sense and those describing certain events from a scientific viewpoint was again stoked.

I've listened twice to this book and it's changed my whole way of looking at the way my mind works. Very good narration as well.

Excellent collection of material on the self

I read popular neuroscience and philosophy books by the dozen and regularly come across the same anecdotes to illustrate syndromes and phenomena. This book is excellent, introducing people and stories I have not heard before. I'm very impressed with the author's ability to track down the people involved and weave together first hand narrative describing fascinating cases. Well done.

I do not know how this got any positive reviews, many of her other booklets did too. I can only guess they were solicited to boost sales. I do not have BPD, my mother does and I was hoping for more insight. BPD is a complex disorder and while the ideas about its origins have some merit, there is large genetic component also. Anyone who claims that BPD can be overcome by listening to this and doing lists of traumatic incidents on their own is going to overcome this is bamboozeling of being bamboozeled. DBT is the only treatment proven to work for this disorder and it takes YEARS working with someone, which is absolutely necessary as this is an attachment disorder full of distortions in thinking. I was not looking for or expecting a cure here, although that does seem to be what the author is selling. No way can I recommend this.

Extremely useful, I would describe it as a combination of tips for dealing not just with crisis but everyday life to prevent crisis and short explanations of the causes of our behavior that if explored more in depth by yourself make you understand what needs to be accepted to move on. amazing true info

Studies?

Nice little book, not much depth. It mainly touches on anxiety but no other health issues. It refers to numerous studies that I must call BS. FDA can't do ANY protocols (studies) on it because it is illegal to touch, smell, look by federal agencies. I don't really care about studies with only hundred people and without strick federal oversight.
