Publisher's Summary:
There are many books on yoga which will go deep into the meanings of enlightenment and righteousness. This isn't one of them.
This book is about using the physical practice (asana) of yoga to specifically train for life. It's about living a life of balance, feeling calmer, more peaceful, and being connected even in times of adversity or chaos.
The Alchemy of Yoga: Living Yoga off the Mat will change you in a way you might find surprising. It will teach you much about yourself and how to engage:
It takes you on a deeper exploration of the larger questions yoga always inspires - who am I and why am I here?
This is the ideal book for everyday people who simply want to enjoy life to the fullest and make a difference in the world around them. Because, in the end, yoga is not just for the young, beautiful, healthy people of this world. It is for all. Something which teaches us how to be flexible. It makes us stronger. It improves our balance. And it encourages us to surrender our ego and pride so we can live the life we deeply desire.
Members Reviews:
and funny. You'll feel as though you are just chatting ...
This yoga book isn't all about the steps of getting into certain asanas (though there are some instructions throughout). It's not full of pictures of incredibly fit people doing impossible poses. This is a yoga book for the average yogi. Those of us struggling to get into poses, loving the way they make us feel physically, emotionally, and mentally and recognizing the value of the practice beyond the physical. This book is about how the asanas we do affect us, how they change us, open us, and teach us about who we are in the world. Wendy shares her experiences of teaching and practicing yoga in such a genuine way. Her down to earth writing is sincere, vulnerable, instructive, and funny. You'll feel as though you are just chatting in her living room.
A bridge
In Alchemy of Yoga, Wendy Reese, clears the fog from the general perception of yoga and gets to the whole of what the practice of yoga is. For me, it's been a rare experience to hear or learn about the spiritual-emotional-mental attributes of yoga, and for that reason I love this book. I have never quite been one to avidly practice yoga, but reading this inspires and motivates me. To put it simply, reading Alchemy of Yoga, has silenced the noise (general perception of yoga; that I had) and created a bridge through which I can now see a path that can help me develop all parts of myself (physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental) through one practice.
Way over my head
I could not follow this. There were some interesting points at the beginning, but it became more and more confusing as she went on. I gave up 2/3rds of the way through.
Thought provoking and practical
About 1/2 way through and already many yellow highlighted segments... Thought provoking and practical. I have been away from a yoga practice for too long. Wendy's writing makes me want to dust off the mat and renew the practice - on and off the mat!
A book to help you be your best
Wendy Reese makes yoga "real" even for those of us who aren't practitioners. Lots of practical and thought-provoking ideas for all of us seeking to be better, know more and relax into our magic.
