"Maybe I was stupid to have agreed to this, but when all of the options that you have in life are dangerous ones, you can only choose to do something reckless, or turn a blind eye, and allow the cards to fall as they may...and I was sick of being blind."
Seraph Black has endured a vicious stalker, a change of schools, a bonding, a triple-murder, and more than her fair share of uncomfortable situations - but it seems like the world isn't done with her yet. The messenger is back with a systematic vengeance that knocks her flat, and not even her self-proclaimed secret-keepers are prepared for how far he is willing to go to get what he wants.
She is walking on eggshells, trying to keep everyone at a distance. Especially those that are closest to her. Unfortunately, there is one person who keeps slipping through the cracks: Silas Quillan, the gift in her life that keeps on taking. Every time she turns around, he's taking something else from her: her choices, her privacy, her freedom, her sanity...and if she's not careful, the next victim might just be her heart.

    What the ****
This book took such a turn, I am totally lost. It has the feeling that everything you read so far was a dream. So now you have to start all over. I believe it went way too far. Not sure if Ill get the third book or not. I started out enjoying this. But after the second book I would not recommend the series.
    Loved this book!
This book was amazing!! So much has happened! Let's start with Seraph, this girl has gone through so much! And things keep slamming her down through the whole book. Through the whole book I felt so bad for her and angry in her behalf! She gets no breaks, she jumps from one problem to another and she has no idea whom to trust, and I don't blame her!! I don't trust anyone anymore either.
Silas: I feel bad for him too, he's one of the other characters that I felt pity for. His dad is some messed up psychopath and in turn has caused Silas to be a bit unstable.....but dang that ending!!
As for the other three ....*sigh* I don't know I just feel disappointment!! Cause they are constantly hurting Seraph!!! Like why!?? And I felt like overall all the guys with the exception of Silas, was really stupid. They didn't try hard enough!! And lemme just mention again how much those particular three hurt Seraph!!!
On a positive note! I love poison an Clarice! Seraph needs friends...or at least some people somewhat stable in her life? And she at least got that From them!
Anyway great book!! Idk if I have the patience to wait for the next one to be released on audible!
    Cheers!
    good

    Title: Little Monsters
    Author: Kara Thomas
    Narrator: Phoebe Strole, Brittany Pressley
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-25-17
    Publisher: Listening Library
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 178 votes
    Genres: Teens, Mysteries & Thrillers
    Publisher's Summary:
For fans of Pretty Little Liars, Little Monsters is a new psychological thriller from the author of The Darkest Corners, about appearances versus reality and the power of manipulation among teenage girls.
Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and, strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.
Kacey's new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls - she's even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.
Which is why it's so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don't invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn't exactly feel like an accident.
But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly Broken Falls doesn't seem so welcoming after all - especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.
Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you're the new girl, you shouldn't trust anyone.
    Critic Reviews:
"A twisted story of obsession and manipulation, Little Monsters captivated me right up to its surprising conclusion - and left me wondering how well I really know my friends." (Chelsea Sedoti, author of The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett)

    Superb!
I'm am pleasantly surprised this was so good! I finished it in like 36 hours. I really recommend it! You grow to know the characters, and think you know who is the killer but then it all goes back to square one! For such young characters, it was really entertaining to me and I don't read a lot of YA!
    Absolutely. Fantastic. BUY!!!
Guys, buy this audio book. The performance was fantastic, but the story was incredible. The main characters were so well-developed and interesting. Five stars for sure.
It was OK, Not my favorite
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The book was good. It had a nice twist to it but not a lot of drama/conflict. I was expecting more.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    No extreme reaction.
    Any additional comments?
The Narrator had a good clear voice but she pauses a little bit too much.
    That Plot Twist Though...(No Spoilers)
First and foremost, that twist ending had my jaw on the floor. This author knows how to keep you guessing the whole way through.
I dont want to say much more, other than you need this book in your life! ...and the narrators did a stunning job. Loved it.
Excellent Book That Lives Up to the Hype!
This is a book that could easily be compared to Gone Girl, and it lives up to the praise. This was a wonderful novel with plenty of twists, right up to the very end. I loved it because I did not try and over think and enjoyed the ride. It surprised me due to the fact that I was still guessing until the last minute. This is an author I will read again!
This is a great read for Gone Girl fans, fans of PLL, or just a good, twisted tale.
The narrator did an outstanding job and really made the characters distinctive and separate. The characters came to life due to her talents.
Favorite audio in a long time.

    Great Series. Poor ending
This series was so good on many levels. it's not my favorite but it certainly kept.my attention well and kept me wanting to come back for more. some of the characters choices seemed totally unreasonable through the series but then again I'm nearly 40, perhaps I'm out of touch for what is reasonable.to teenagers. At times the teens seemed to make the dumbest decisions that evaded common sense and at other times they were acting and thinking more mature than adults do. Then the ending left me confused. so much happened in the last couple of chapters and nothing happened all at once. Some things didn't make sense at all or fit with the rest of the story and I felt it was a very "abrupt" ending which was a let down to how the rest of the story had been progressing.
the narrator was fabulous. Her ability to switch accents and tone was flawless.
Overall, I'm glad I read the series and I would likely try another from this author if one perks my interest. but won't end up on my favorites shelf.
Edge of my seat till the end!!!
The first book of this series had me hooked all the way till the end. So much so that I had to find a way to get it since my Public Library didn't have it yet. So worth it!!! The end was to be expected of strong characters shoved to a corner. You'll find out more when you check it out. I'm so glad that I listened to this book, the reader kept me hooked and brought it to life. It enhanced the experience for me, as if I was watching it play out before me. Can't wait for more!! the Map of Fates Trilogy by Maggie Hall
Nice tight trilogy and lots of fun to read! Thank you Maggie Hall! Excellent read
    Excellent
When I listened to the first book, I felt a it was a little cliche. YA fiction with a girl deciding between two boys while action ensues in the background? I've heard it before. However I'm a sucker for historical fiction and books that tie real events (historical or modern) into them. I also grew to really love the characters and the relationships among them. By the end of the 2nd book, I had subscribed to Maggie Hall's newsletter, longing for the day when the 3rd book was released. I think the ending of the ends of world was perfect and enjoyed every minute of the performance. Julia whelan does a nice job narrating in so many different accents!
    A captivating conclusion!
Julia Whelan's narration is beautiful, exhilarating, and captivating.

    It kept me guessing!!
I pre-ordered One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus because right away it sounded like an episode out of Gossip Girl (and I'm telling you, I loved Gossip Girl!). I also liked that there were multiple narrators, which I haven't experienced too much in audiobooks. I'm glad I spent the credit on this book, and if you like teen drama or the "whodunit" type mysteries, you will enjoy it as well.
I couldn't decide whether to give it 4 or 5 stars. If I could, I'd have to settle on a 4.5 rating. I liked the fact that there were 4 narrators for 4 different main characters, but even though there were only 4 of them, it seemed like I got lost a bit keeping track of 'who was who' & 'who did what.' When you listen, make sure you pay attention to detail or you might get lost as other people are introduced into the story. I tried to multi-task while listening, and I found myself wondering what was going on in some places, mostly because my mind wasn't fully focusing on the story....learn from my mistake. I plan to listen to it again to get the full experience, even though I know how the murder of the 5th student happened. I liked it so much that I don't mind...plus I'm sure I'll come across a bunch of details that I overlooked the first time through. :-)
I thought both the writing and narration were great! It's told in alternating points of view by each of the 4 teens. Throughout the entire story I was thinking I knew who the murderer was. It wasn't until the last part that I realized I was totally off base. Wow! I didn't expect that one at all! It kept me guessing.
I recommend this audiobook to those who like mysteries, drama, and teen characters.

    Publisher's Summary:
From the internationally acclaimed best-selling author of Code Name Verity comes a stunning new story of pearls, love and murder.
Sixteen-year-old Julie Beaufort-Stuart is returning to her family's ancestral home in Perthshire for one last summer. It is not an idyllic return to childhood. Her grandfather's death has forced the sale of the house and estate, and this will be a summer of good-byes. Not least to the McEwen family - Highland travellers who have been part of the landscape for as long as anyone can remember, loved by the family, loathed by the authorities. Tensions are already high when a respected London archivist goes missing, presumed murdered. Suspicion quickly falls on the McEwens, but Julie knows not one of them would do such a thing and is determined to prove everyone wrong. And then she notices the family's treasure trove of pearls is missing.
This beautiful and evocative novel is the story of the irrepressible and unforgettable Julie, set in the year before the Second World War and the events of Code Name Verity. It is also a powerful portrayal of a community under pressure and one girl's determination for justice.
    Critic Reviews:
"...for all the story's mystery and history - some of it quite ancient - two other elements take hold: the intriguing characters, brimming with life and the evocative language seeded with Scottish words and phrasings...." (Booklist)
"Narrator Maggie Service's Scottish accents reflect this novel's strong sense of place.... Nearing the audiobook's end, Service heightens the tension as the twists and turns multiply, never losing the story's emotions and elegant language." (AudioFile)

    Freshwater Pearls and Scottish Plaid
I steeled myself to listen to Elizabeth Weins The Pearl Thief (2017), a prequel to Code Name Verity (2012) and Rose Under Fire (2013). Verity was a stunning book and a chilling listen, five stars all around. Rose wasnt quite the book that Verity was and I really did not care for the narration. The Pearl Thief is a redemptive Audible performance, and a satisfying back story.
Lady Julia Lindsay MacKenzie Wallace Beaufort-Stewart is Julie in The Pearl Thief and Verity in Code Name Verity. The Pearl Thief is set in Scotland, after cars and cigarettes, but before World War II tore the world apart, taking Verity, Maddie, and Rose into the dark heart of Europe. Julie at 15 is daring and worldly, the beloved granddaughter of an Earl, and a descendent of Mary Stewart. The descriptions of the castle keep and the rivers are detailed. I could see the estates library in my mind.
Theres a lively, old fashioned mystery that starts almost immediately. Some of Weins books take a while to get going, but The Pearl Thief doesnt make that mistake. There are wrong assumptions, romances, arrests and red herrings. It makes for a satisfying listen and an intriguing who done it.
The listen reminds me of the summer I was 14, when I devoured as much as I could of Eleanor Alice Buford Hibberts historical fiction. Hibbert? Well, her pen names included Victoria Holt, Philippa Carr, and my personal favorite, Jean Plaidy. Hibbert used Plaidy as a nom de plume for fictionalized novels of royalty, castles, intrigue and mystery. Weins books are more finally crafted.
Weins writing for young adults, a genre that Judy Blume seems to have started with Are You There God? Its Me, Margaret? (1970).

    Good Murder Mystery
    Any additional comments?
The Cabin had me hooked from the very beginning and the plot twists kept me guessing. Mackenzie and her friends go to a cabin for a weekend of partying and people start dying. Who will survive? Who is the killer? You'll have to find out for yourself! This audiobook had a little of everything to keep my interest. I was a bit surprised at the sexual content, considering that these were high school students. Overall The Cabin was very entertaining, the narration well done and I would recommend this.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.
Holy Smokes! Almost Didn't See It Coming
Where does The Cabin rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Great mystery. I'd listen to it again.
What about Morag Simss performance did you like?
Overall Ms. Sims did a nice job. I enjoyed her portrayal of the various main characters (Kenzie &n Blake)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Ms. Preston creates a really intriguing story. Lots of twists and turns. Great characters. I couldn't wait to listen to more of the story every moment I had free.
I won't add any more to the description of the main story than what the author offered. I would be afraid it would ruin the numerous surprises.
Definitely for the 17 and older crowd due to sexual situations and mature dialog. The characters are Seniors in High School. That's where I'd start as far as an audience.
    Any additional comments?
I received a free copy via audiobook boom in exchange for an unbiased review. Thank you.
    Kept me guessing!
I really enjoyed this book from all the way up until the ending. Do I still recommend this book to other? YES! I was hooked throughout the whole book up until maybe the last chapter where it started to feel sped up. This book really does have it all (murder, mystery, romance, action, twists and turns). This is the first book I've listened to by Natasha Preston and I will definitely listen to more by this author. Narrator was perfect for the characters in this book and easy to listen to.
"I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher."
    Great Book
    Any additional comments?
The Cabin by Natasha Preston was a great book. Mackenzie was going for a weekend away with her friends at a cabin. Her and her friends are trying to let loose when two of them come up dead. This was a great book of just how far someone will go to get payback.

    Members Reviews:
    riveting, poetic, and complex
A morally ambiguous, psychologically complex, and riveting page-turner that takes, even more so than the first book in the series, the first genuinely unique take on Sherlock Holmes that I have encountered in decades. First rate.
    Not My Favorite
First, let me say it's not a terrible book. It just wasn't as good as the first one was. I enjoyed the humor and Charlotte and Jamie's relationship. There was more action as well! I loved the Europe setting, art forgery, and Charlotte's chapters! Of course Jamie was a plus! The narrators were really good too! However, it was extremely confusing and kind of slow. It copied some plot points from the first book. Although, it wasn't my favorite, I'll still be reading the third book.
    Disappointing
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoy all things Sherlock Holmes. I loved the first book in this series, but this book did not capture my attention. The plot was weak and the creativity and brilliant allusions from the first book did not carry through to this book.
Would you be willing to try another book from Brittany Cavallaro? Why or why not?
Yes. While this book was disappointing, I do like the concept of the future Holmes/Watson generation.
What about Graham Halstead and Julia Whelan s performance did you like?
The vocal performance was excellent. Consistent voices and accents, a smooth comfortable voice. Graham Halstead gives unique voices for every character and his narration from Jamie's perspective is fantastic. Julia Whelan captures Charlotte's cold and detached personality perfectly.
Do you think The Last of August needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes. There is so much room for character development and exploration. The Holmes/Watson relationship could be explored in many ways.
    Any additional comments?
I was very excited for this book to come out. I watched online for the release date, downloaded the audiobook as soon as it was available and listened to it in one day. I debated buying the actual book, but by half way through the audiobook, I decided against it. I was excited to see what the author would do with the characters relationship, adventures and interactions within the modern world.

Fourteen years later, Erin is once again at the center of a brutal homicide when she finds the body of her biology teacher. When questioned by the police, Erin tells almost the whole truth, but never voices her suspicions that her mother's killer has struck again in order to protect the casework she's secretly doing on her own.
Inspired by her uncle, an FBI agent, Erin has ramped up her forensic hobby into a full-blown cold-case investigation. This new murder makes her certain she's close to the truth, but when all the evidence starts to point the authorities straight to Erin, she turns to her longtime crush (and fellow suspect) Journey Michaels to help her crack the case before it's too late.
    Critic Reviews:
"Narrator Christy Romano captures fearless 17-year-old Erin Blake convincingly. When she was two, Erin spent three days beside her murdered mother's body, and now she's determined to find her killer. Romano also effectively depicts secondary characters: Rachel, Erin's guardian, who was also her mother's best friend, as well as gutsy, eccentric Samantha and kind, level-headed Lysa, Erin's friends, who add warmth and support to her life. Each chapter begins with a helpful quote about detecting or forensics from a book by Erin's uncle, FBI agent Victor Fleming. Tension escalates, and so does Romano's delivery when Erin's favorite science teacher, who is also helping with the case, is brutally murdered. Listeners will root for Erin, both in her in her single-minded pursuit and in her partnership with her secret crush as they join forces to identify the perpetrator. Listeners of all ages will enjoy this roller-coaster mystery. (AudioFile Magazine)

Awesome Characters with Fantastic Forensic Details
This is one of the best mysteries I've listened to in a while. It has everything--an interesting, small town setting, vivid characters, and a mystery that kept me wondering who-did it until the end.
I really connected with the main character, Erin. She's strong, but with enough vulnerability to keep her real. The side characters really made it, though. Spam and Lysa (aren't those names awesome?) are Erin's two closest friends, and each are quirky and fun in different ways. They really brighten up the story. The romance between Erin and Journey is pretty awesome, too.
One of the things that I thought the author did better than almost any mystery author I've read before, is to give a lot of forensic science details. She shows how forensic tests can be done at home--even a DNA test! It made me want to try some of them myself. It's all weaved into the story, too, it's not just a big information dump. Fantastic writing.
The narrator was a good choice, too.

Kept me thinking about the story

    MY TAKE
Ever the Hunted did something I always want a book to do--make me think about the characters and the story even when I'm not able to read it. In this case, I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a terrific job.
Britta's stronger than she knows, having grown up with a father who had prestige (the king's bounty hunter) yet she was spurned because of her mother--a native of an adjacent country where they allowed magic casters. As a result, Britta's a jumble of loneliness and desperation and determination.
After he father is murdered, she's set on a path she doesn't want to go on--find the man accused of his murder, Cohen Mckay. He just happens to be her only friend and the boy she had once declared feelings for.
Summerhill does a fabulous job setting up the emotions, and the sexual tension between Britta (Dove) and Cohen once they meet again is well played. It's a journey of discovery for Britta and it's full of tension and danger and discovery. Because even as she and Cohen are hunting the real murderer, they are also being hunted.
The story is kind of cliffhangerish. There's a satisfying dose of resolution at the end even as it sets up the next book so you know the story's not complete yet.
I'll be looking forward to the next book.
    Fantastic! Looking forward to more
Compelling story with vivid, relatable, loveable characters and a creative magic system. My interest in this world and it's inhabitants is definitely piqued. Was just released, but I'm already looking forward to more from Britta.
    Good book, great narrator
Ever the Hunted was a great adventure/romance with a perfect narrator. Very rarely does a narrator enhance my enjoyment of a story so much.
