The first book in a witty, suspenseful new trilogy about a brilliant new crime-solving duo: the teen descendants of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. This clever detective yarn will appeal to fans of Maureen Johnson and Ally Carter.

But when a student they both have a history with dies under suspicious circumstances, ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Jamie can no longer afford to keep his distance. Danger is mounting, and nowhere is safe - and the only people they can trust are each other.

Excellent concept

Would you consider the audio edition of A Study in Charlotte to be better than the print version?

Yes. The performance by Graham Halstead brought Jamie to life.

What other book might you compare A Study in Charlotte to and why?

I don't think I have read another book I would compare this too. The concept of the future Holmes/Watson generations is a unique one.

What about Graham Halstead and Julia Whelan s performance did you like?

Graham Halstead's performance was excellent as Jamie in narration. His unique voices for each character made the story feel like a clear reconnection of Jamie's. I fully enjoyed his performance. Julia Whelan captured Charlotte's cool and detached personality.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. The first time I listened to this book, I hated having to press pause to get back to the real world. I have since listened to the book several times, many in one sitting. The story is fast paced and exciting. Each chapter left me wanting to know what would happen next. Some plot points required re-listening to fully understand what happened. It is a story I enjoy re-listening to.

Any additional comments?

The concept of a future Holmes/Watson generation is a unique one. Every modern adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories has placed the original pair in modern day. This take of what Sherlock and John's descendants' lives might be like was intriguing and exciting.

Very, very good. interesting plot.

Eh, James is a bit sappy, romanticizing everything, especially Charlotte, but the story is 10/10. Very interesting.

3.5 s

I have recently come to realize how much I love Sherlock Holmes retellings. This didn't disappoint me.

First, I love the idea that the main characters are descendants of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Also Holmes is a female and she's rather bad was. She is one strong female character that is highly intellectual. As for James, reading from his perspective allows you to really relate to the characters and love them. Without james fondness for Holmes I am not sure she was a character I would have liked or not.

This book has some triggers; drug usage and rape. So if you don't want to read about those things, this may not be for you.

I gave this book 3.5 stars, it was going to be 3 stars until I reached the epilogue.

Enjoyed it

Enjoyed this book

Wanted to know what type car Will got? And what happened to his grandfather?

Loved it

First series listened to on audible. Narrator did a wonderful job. Looking for another series.

great life philosophies

Enjoyed the story line, the details and the humor. I know those kids. I'm recommending it to my son.

Good want to the trilogy

This book was a good end to the trilogy. It's nice to see the story all wrapped up. Unfortunately, this book suffers from a rather weak ending. It's like three or four pages were skipped. I wish a revised edition would come out with what happens between the climax and the return home. It's a giant plot hole.

Disappointed

Book 2 and 3 became another Percy Jackson book. terrible after reading book 1. Was this a new author. what happened to Mark Frost

Title: Awake

Author: Natasha Preston

Narrator: Katy Sobey, Dan Morgan

Format: Unabridged

Length: 7 hrs and 48 mins

Language: English

Release date: 08-20-15

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 59 votes

Publisher's Summary:

Of course, the dress was white. This is what I'm supposed to die in, I thought. Not many people knew what their last outfit would be. I pulled it over my head. It fit me perfectly. It had long, loose fitting sleeves, a modest neckline, and waves of material on the skirt. I hated it.

There were no shoes, and I was afraid I'd have to run through the forest barefoot but there weren't a lot of options. Besides, I'd run barefoot over a bed of nails to get away.

"Scarlett, are you ready?" he called.

I looked in the mirror and took a deep breath. Time to fight for my life.

Scarlett Garner doesn't remember anything before the age of four - until a car accident changes everything. She starts to remember pieces of a past that frighten her. A past her parents hid from her... and a secret that could get her killed.

Boring!

Would you try another book from Natasha Preston and/or Katy Sobey and Dan Morgan ?

I love this author but this book is VERY SLOW and doesn't get to the point. Im half way through the book and still unsure of what the book is really about. There is hardly any indication of what Noah is doing there. It doesn't hook you. I choose this book because I love the author but this book is a NO GO FOR ME! Don't waste your time unless you are very patient and looking to be put to sleep.

becky

liked it alot couldn't turn my phone off I had to listen to it all day all night it took me about 2 days 2 finish it

Slow to start

I absolutely loved this book, Natasha Preston is my favorite author, but she takes awhile to lay to ground work in this book. Its a great story, it takes awhile to get intense.

SPEECHLESS

LOVED IT JUST AMAZING SO MUCH SUSPENSE AND MYSTERY COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN SOOOO GOOOD

Narrative

I really did not like the sloppy recording of the narration. I could here every time the male voice stopped and took a breath or swallowed. I like the storyline but had a hard time getting past the narration.

Good murder mystery with clean language.

The story line was disturbingly gruesome at times, but it's nice to listen to a book without cursing interspersed throughout. It was a good mystery story that kept you thinking. I would recommend this book to friends who travel and like murder mysteries.

Suspense, Mystery, and God's Grace!

This is my first book by Lynette Eason narrated by Jeanie Kanaley. It definitely won't be my last. I've already purchased book 2 and book 3 will be released June 30, 2015.

The FBI and Special Forces join together to catch a serial killer. With many technical skills and prayer the bad people are found. I love the characters and Jeanie Kanaley was a great narrator.

I'm listening to "Don't look Back" it is #2 in the series. This author keeps a reminder going that God is in control if individuals lives allow him to be.

Nice clean book.

I enjoy being able to read a story without the foul language. This is a Christian author and enjoy the mystery without the other junk.

Too close to Home

The narration of this book was terrible! I had to force myself to listen to it.

Elementary... Needed a different narrator

I had to make myself finish this book. The narrator was not my style. I will not be purchasing another book with this narrator. Sorry Jeanie. The storyline was predictable. I do like the fact that there was no

Cursing.

Critic Reviews:

"Distinctly British dystopian survival thriller. Great page turner, and I particularly enjoyed the very normal heroine." (The Bookseller)

"Tense, scary, and high emotion, The Rain will have you on the edge of your seat and afraid to step outside." (dark-readers.com)

Gripping, Real, not your average dystopian

Where does The Rain rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

One of the best. It wasn't so fantastical that you knew you were listening to a fictional book. It's in the form of girl's journal of events. It seemed all too real at times.

What did you like best about this story?

It seems so real, like it could happen. I was outside shoveling snow as I listened to the first hour, and found myself getting depressed and scared... In a good way!

What does Avita Jay bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

The British Accent! for an American anyway.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Not your average dystopian"

Rain storms now scare me!

Where does The Rain rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I love this story. Ruby is a typical obnoxious teenager. She is not really a likeable character, but by the end of the book I had grown to love her. Unlike many apocalypse stories, the characters in this story act like you would expect real people to act.

What about Avita Jays performance did you like?

Avita has a really clear voice. She is very expressive.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Really hard to answer this without spoilers, but several parts of the book were moving, especially when some characters die.

A very butterfly good book. Very entertaining

What made the experience of listening to The Rain the most enjoyable?

There was never a dull moment, you just had to keep reading.

What does Avita Jay bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?

A voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was a long book but didn't seem like it.

Any additional comments?

It's an apocalyptic book from the view of a 15 year old girl, with teenage problems.

It's fun, sad, exciting & makes you think too.
