What did you love best about Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane?

As the second book in this series the reader doesn't get bogged down with info from the first book but enough to follow the story. I love the fantasy land of the Underworld and Gregor's relationship with those who live there.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gregor was my favorite character because he would be brave but also remind you that he is still just a young teenager.

Which character as performed by Paul Boehmer was your favorite?

Gregor, but I loved how he performed Boots.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I couldn't stop listening to it. I had it on while cooking, cleaning and in bed!

Very unexpected

Would you listen to Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane again? Why?

I would certainly listen to Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane again. I have to say that the first book didn't make me eager to know what would happen to Boots and Gregor, but since it was a Suzanne Collins book, I thought I might, and I don't regret it. This book is fool of twists, turns, and suspense. Now, this one made me eager to dive into the next one, and it made me cry at least 3 times.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane?

Spoiler alert: When all hope had been lost about Boots, despair took place. But the princess got brought back to the warrior.

What does Paul Boehmer bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I just loved his narration of Boots. So intense and real - just how little toddlers can be.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, but I cried more than I laughed.

Fantastic Book and Series

What made the experience of listening to Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane the most enjoyable?

I have enjoyed both the first and second Gregor the Overlander book with my 8.5 y/o daughter. The story is something both adults and children will enjoy. The story is captivating and moves quickly and leaves you curious for the next chapter and then book.

Inkspell indeed

I am not sure why this book was rated 1 star by another customer, but I found the book to be a truly enjoyable title. I got lost in this inky world and can't wait for the last book.

Brendan Frasier was a little distracting at first and I don't like his "Elinor" voice, but after a while, I grew to like him. Though, I still prefer Lynn Redgrave's reading of Inkheart.

This is a worthy sequel to Inkheart (Please read that one first, or you will be lost). The translation is excellent and the book sounds as if it were originally written in English rather than German.

A must read for all book lovers who still have that sense of wonder about the worlds between the pages of a book.

disappointed

While I'm not a huge Cornelia Funke fan (I listen in the car, with my daughter, who is), I was drawn into "Inkheart" by Lynn Redgrave's skillful and coherent narration (full disclosure: we both have a certain preference for the stage-trained English voice).

Brendan Fraser's take on "Inkspell" is hugely disappointing (both listeners agree). His accents are inconsistent, and all over the (world) map, marked by bursts of strident enthusiasm, and ... gratuitous ... pauses ... for ... emphasis. But, judging from other reviewers' positive response, taste in narrators, as in all else, is ever personal...

Hooked on Inkworld

This is my first time providing feedback on an audiobook, although I've been an avid 'listener' for years now. On the recommendation of Audible, I downloaded Inkheart and thoroughly enjoyed the story and Lynn Redgrave's wonderful narration. I quickly went in search of the sequel, Inkspell, and was a bit disappointed when I heard Brendan Fraser's voice narrating it but was quickly surprised and impressed with his ability to bring the characters to life. This was one of those books that made me look for an excuse to drive somewhere so I could listen to it in the car, and made it really difficult to get out of my car once I got back home!

I was on the edge of my seat at the end of Inkspell, waiting for the whole story to get wrapped up, when I realized, with only 14 minutes left, that this wasn't going to happen and there would be a sequel. I'm disappointed that the sequel isn't available yet, but I'm counting on it being as wonderful as the first two books of the trilogy.

A Delightful Read!

I grew up reading the books of Diana Wynne Jones as a pre-teen and teenager and it was most wonderful to be able to return to her work as an adult.

The story has twists and turns, secrets and spells. Here is the story of Cat Chant and his sister Gwendolyn. After barely surviving death by drowning and losing their parents, they are sent to live with the dashing (and remarkably well-dressed) Chrestomanci at Chrestomanci Castle. Gwendolyn sees an avenue to really show off her witchcraft, but Cat is somewhat disappointed to leave Mrs. Sharp on Coven street. At the castle, Cat has to learn the secrets of what his sister has been plotting, discover the true nature of Chrestomanci, and learn who he really is. There are many suprises in store for the reader and most will enjoy the well-developed characters and interesting plot.

The story is well read by a very talented narrator. The inflection for each character is very well defined and the pace keeps the reader (or listener) interested. I would recommend this to adults and children alike. Originally published in print in 1977 followed in 1988 by its prequel The Lives of Christopher Chant (about Chrestomanci's childhood) is likely to become a classic, especially as most of the author's works are being re-released.

If you like J.K. Rowling, you'll love Diana Wynne Jones. This is a most remarkable read.

Wonderfully Fantastic

I love this book, it is read well and is very humorous.

We listened to this as a family over the course of a road trip and a few family meals. We. Loved. It!

Took a long time to get interesting, but ended well

It starts VERY slow, but the ending made me want to read the rest! I chose this because Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favorite books, and while I did not enjoy this as much, Diana Wynne Jones' charm still shines in this and would recommend it. Narrator was good, did a lot of different voices with great character to them.

Gerard Doyle differentiates as well as his distinct male voice can, however, he speaks quite slowly with long pauses after each comma and period.

I listened to the samples of all the different recordings of his book, and I liked this narrator best, but I almost didn't get it because the audio wasn't great. When I got it, however, the audio quality was great. Barbara Caruso does a great job.

The narrator does a really good job on all of the characters.

The story was better than "Anne of Windy Poplars" and as good as the more widely known first three books in the series.

A dreamy home for Anne

This was a delight -- the only drawback seemed to be the mispronunciation of several words; of particular annoyance was any reference to Gog & Magog, as the narrator kept pronouncing Magog as "M-gog" rather than "Mah-gog"... other than that distraction, was extremely pleased.

All my hopes for Anne fulfilled

Finally Anne has the life I desired for her since book 1! I can just stop the series here and be content with such a wonderful story. Yet, I know I will be surprised just around the bend in the road.

I think I like this book best after the first Anne of Green Gables. the reader is wonderful too.

missing letter to the editor again

like the past few books this one was missing the letter to the editor :(

How much more can we take??!!

Things aren't getting any better, and the adventures continue for these resourceful unfortunates. In this book, Sunny has learned to walk, and we don't need all her words translated. As an adult listener hooked on this series when travelling with pre-teens, I find I enjoy these books at periodic intervals - otherwise they are too depressing. That said, the author's use of language had me laughing several times, and overlooking the wildly implausible situations, the stories are well-constructed. This one ended with a cliff-hanger, and I will be downloading "The Carniverous Carnival".....just as soon as I cheer up a little!

All thats missing is Brian Jaques

I love this series and have read the books since I was young. One of the things that I loved about the audiobooks was the Brain Jaques read the stories himself. For some reason he isn't the narrator of this book. If you've listened to other books in this series you'll recognize most of the same actors. Still a wonderful story and well done. I just missed the voice of Brian Jaques

We love Brian Jacques

If you haven't listened to a Brian Jacques Redwall book, you're missing out. A full cast brings to life a wide variety of characters, and the classic good vs evil epic stories are enthralling. My three kids (12yo boy, 8yo girl, and 6yo boy) love the Redwall series as do my husband and I. With so many books in a series, with the same type of characters and the classic good vs evil theme, you'd think that the books would all start to sound the same, but they're all different, there are still surprises, and the characters still delight (and disgust). My one warning is that these are violent books, characters fight and die (good and evil), might not be a great choice for some younger ears.

I originally purchased this book for our son to read because he had read one of the other Redwall books. Being an avid reader, I decided to listen too! Wow! I couldn't stop and before I knew it I had finished the book ahead of him! The full cast truly brings the book to "life" as if its a movie!

Excellent book, but...

Would you listen to Salamandastron again? Why?

Brian Jacques works are ones I find myself returning to again and again. I always enjoy the audiobook versions of his books as they are like listening to a radio play version with all the different actors.

Too many to count!

What about Full Casts performance did you like?

I loved each and every moment. Utilizing a full cast allows for a greater depth of listening entertainment. I do prefer the titles that are narrated by Brian Jacques himself, and that is the one thing I was missing from this particular title. Still quality work though!

Absolutely! But who has time for that?

a good story with some interesting twists.

the cast did a great job being the story to life.

I did find it odd that samkin, who was an archer, really didn't use his bow and arrows to fight with.

highly recommend for teen and adults, and other than a few fights, children should like the story.

An Excellent Tale and Production

A wonderful telling of a classic tale of adventure and food. Redwall books are oft filled with adventures, battles, food, songs, and moments of peace. Mariel of Redwall is no exception to this and is a joy from start to finish.

The production brings this book to life in a wonderful way I was not expecting. All the characters are given rich voices that fit them. Even the songs within the book are sang and accompanied by instruments.

mastery of the stock characters

of all the books in the redwall series, this one has the best selection of characters, villians, heroes and sidekicks. the story itself is not as exciting as some of the other titles, but there is still some good action and it is a wonderful excuse to go romping around Moss flower with old friends!

My favourite so far

Gripping, sad, sweet, scary and so funny... This is the most profound of the series, so far. I love this.

I liked how he had different voices for every character it made me feel more connected to the story

Well-narrated

The narrator makes it easy to understand the story. The different voices suit the characters. Tim Curry is the best! The story itself was not award-winning, half of it was a bit boring. Though the end made me want to binge-hear (if that's a thing) the next book! This book does contain some details that would be useful to know for when...well, whenever the narrator wants to bring the subject up again and tie that information to an eye-opening twist. I wouldn't really recommend this book, but for those ASOUE fans, it's part of the series, and you should read it.

Loved this book!

Each book in this series is a brilliantly told tale, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this performance along with my little boy. Lemony Snicket's characteristic style of weaving the definition of words and expressions into the narrative makes it an excellent way to expand on vocabulary and general comprehension. My 6 year old boy is now well acquainted with the water cycle, and bitterly disappointed that the medusoid mycelium does not actually exist. It did however spawn an interest in reading up about actual fungi, so this book for us was not only top notch entertainment, but also a launchpad to further reading pleasure. You cannot go wrong with Lemony Snicket and I highly recommend this book.

Perfect Mystery for young and old!

I purchased this audible book for my 8,6, and 4 year old grandchildren and I to listen to on a long trip. They loved it! I had to keep checking to see if they were asleep because they were so quiet. I learned just how interested they were when I turned the book off during heavy traffic, so I could concentrate more on my driving. They began playing, quarreling, and doing all the things they normally would do had we not been listening to the book. As soon as we returned to the car after a stop, they were all telling me to turn their book back on.

The reader did a awesome job of changing voices with the characters. She really made it seem as if we were seeing the performance in person with lots of different actors.

Although the book was originally written for young teens or pre-teens even before I was born, it was still enjoyable for an old lady of 60 like me as well as my grandchildren. I would definitely recommend it to others.

Very old friend remains a Delight !

What did you love best about The Hidden Staircase?

It is one of the first in the famous old series, and yet pretty complex. Not all fluff. Stuff to get into. The "very old friend" - ness of it, is what brings me back.

I'd run to the library as a girl to get the next book in the series. I had to sit with myself, to work out a reading schedule that prevented me from obsessing on Nancy Drew books.

I read every one available at the time.

Then in highschool I re-read the rewritten series, updated it to get rid of stereotypes and racist things. My best friend owned the entire collection, so it was a bit easier. My friends and I made 4 and we'd go on "adventures" inspired by Nancy Drew, in addition to our busy family, school and dating things.

I still want a blue roadster, and I DID manage to wangle from Dad a cool Hillman Minx in two-tone grey.

As a Mother of grown children I could recommend it to them and now to grandchildren, and that's part of the magic.

What other book might you compare The Hidden Staircase to and why?

As intriguing as I'd remembered

I was a Hardy Boys fan when I was a lad. At 12 years old with a several hours trio before us, I decided it was time to introduce my son too. It kept him intrigued from the first chapter!

Fun story; pretty good performance

Old, unabridged text is great! Sound effects and music were appropriate and added to the story. Narration was good but could have used more inflection.

Not a boring reading but an excellent reading of this Hardy Boys book. With the music and sound effects, the listener is held spellbound as Bill Irwin leads you through this exciting adventure. It is a first-class production.
