Excellent Book on how to discern between true and false Christians

So timely for this nation and world as a watered down Gospel (which is no Gospel at all) is being increasingly propagated, and evangelized with. I love how clear Mr. Washer presents his case and the level of discernment he exercises when discussing a subject (false and true peofessions of faith ) that most do not like to deal with. I've experienced first hand many who have walked away from the Lord and have yet to return and this book gives me an even greater passion and desire to pursue them with great eagerness.

Paul Washer's knowledge of the Holy writ is second to none. He explains the Gospel and assurance of eternal life in a clear and understandable way which most Christians do not have the ability to do, or even understand. And, what is not talked about in modern times are the awful warnings that the Bible conveys to those who would treat the Gospel of Christ in a false and apostate manner. Mr. Washer pulls no punches about what the Bible says, and points out the awful warnings to those who would demean or take lightly the Gospel of Christ.

A sobering warning to the falsely assured, a sweet assurance to those of genuine conversion, and an enlightening guide to those who seek to understand why salvation is needed. Truly an inspirational work. Buy this one, you won't be sorry.

Yes, certainly! In fact, I am halfway through listening a second time.

What did you like best about this story?

It is very well researched and organized. Obviously, this gospel is the most important message anyone will ever hear. I can tell that the author put tremendous work into the writing. Every word seems precisely chosen and sentences well organized. It seems clear that this work is written as if it is meant to be the author's legacy work.

What does David Cochran Heath bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

He does a fine job, but having heard the author himself on YouTube, this reading lacks the passion that the author would have put into this powerful message. I think if he had put more passion into the reading, the message would have sunk in easier.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me want to listen again, and then buy the hard copy and highlight it and copy down some sections. That is how good it is.

Any additional comments?

This subject is heavy and requires paying close attention. It is not something like a novel that I can listen to while doing various chores. I need to concentrate on it. But the principles exposed are worth the effort on my part. It makes me want to share this information with others that I care about.

Loaded with scripture and biblical truth

The performance was not the greatest but this book is jam-packed with scripture and biblical truth. It opened my eyes to many aspects of the Gospel I had not considered. I recommend listening if you're serious about knowing all the Bible has to say about the gospel.

Trustworthy and Honest

This is book was written by a man of God. He speaks necessary truth that this generation needs (For both Christians and heathens). If you listened to a lot of Paul Washer sermons then you will recognize a lot of what he says because he has been preaching these topics long before it is published as a book.

Terrible

What disappointed you about God's High Calling for Women?

This book is dire. Lots and lots about women should not do - no dressing like a prostitute at church, ladies, no going to church to find a man, no dressing like a prostitute at church, no authority, no dressing like a prostitute at church... about 25% of the book is spent on this.

So what is God's high calling for women, other than not wearing stripper shoes on a Sunday morning?Apparently God's high calling for women is 'the role of subordination and subjection'.

The arguments used by the author are so full of flaws and blatant, deliberate misreadings of Scripture that I find the book highly objectionable.The author claims that 'when Eve stepped out from under the protection of Adam, she was highly vulnerable and fell'. No. Eve was tempted by Satan and chose to disobey God. Genesis 3 makes it clear that conflict in the relationship between man and woman came as a result of the fall.

The argument that women should not prophesy in church begins with mentioning a Scriptural basis and then misinterpreting a whole lot of other Scripture. 'There were loads of women prophetesses in the Bible, but they don't count because they were women and women have never been prophetesses because only men get to do that!' It's not exactly the world's best argument. Why not just discuss the relevant passage in the NT and leave it at that? I'm not a fan of Scripture being twisted to support an argument. Not everything needs to backed up with sixty different irrelevant quotations. I think the author needs to remember the story about the man who decided that he would live his life by the first verse he set eyes on when opening his eyes to a random page, and opened the Bible to 'he went and hanged himself'.

I'm also not a fan of 'here is a passage from Paul's letter... Odd numbered verses should be considered in light of the cultural traditions of the day, but even numbered verses should be taken literally'. Although there are many parts of the Bible where an understanding of the culture of the day does shed light on the Scripture in question, choosing whether or not to consider this based on whether or not it fits your argument gets you nowhere.In summary, this book says almost nothing about God's high calling for women.

A Good Read

A lot of his insights were very unique. Sometimes they also got muddy down in the Bog of making something understandable and applicable. Other times, it was very simple, very clear. Of course, this is a difficult subject worth pursuing and thus my rating of 4 stars overall. I liked it and appreciated his teachings.

Iâve been working through this book a chapter a week with some other men. It is arguably the âmeatiestâ Christian book Iâve read written in the last ~60-70 years.

Yes, author Mark Driscoll has significant personal/leadership issues, but the content does not rely on strength of personality or his own credibility.

Yes, the authors overplay their hand at many instances, rely too heavily on Christian sources, unfairly or weakly represent many critiques of orthodox Christian beliefs.

BUT...for mature readers/thinkers able to strain babies from bath water, and truth from messenger, this is SUCH a rich summary and distillation of basically all the core theological pillars of Christianity, as well as the major critiques and heresies. They also do a great job of raising the âso whatsâ re how these ideas change oneâs actual life, which is (for me) absolutely essential in making any philosophical or theological debate relevant and productive.

A very thick book, I'm not used to reading. It's not much of people's personal ideas but interpreting what scripture says about Christianity. Although it's like reading a college textbook I still love it.

Good study to look into yourself

This was an excellent book to read and take a look at yourself and really evaluate your purpose for God. I did struggle with remembering to read the section for each day and ended up just reading the book straight through, but I don't think it took anything away from the content.

I can be used by God!

Donna Partow is truly a Woman of God who has sat at the foot of His throne to receive words that bring life and life to those who will listen. Becoming a Vessel God can use showed me the difference between being a vessel of honor or vessel of dishonor. There is a very thin line. But, if we choose to be vessels of honor, we must line ourselves up with the Word of God and do all He has called and created us to do. Donna Partow is faithful to the calling God has placed on her life. I thank God for this wonderfully transparent writer! God is faithful!
