very deep and somewhat hard to follow. I would have liked more about her life story and less theology.

Difficult for me to stay with

It was way over my head but hope to listen again and see if I could get more out of it. Pretty deep. Religion is deep and music is deep and the two together made me frustrated because I could not concentrate on one thing. Very happy for Loren and her success like her a lot

Faith or no Faith: A Must Read

I liked the audio so much I purchased a hard back copy. Then have gifted the book to 10 family and friends. Green has woven her own spiritual journey, her research and music background into a book that explains God in ways others have not. Some may get lost in her chapter on music theory--but for others it'll unlock deep truth.

This book is great for listening as there are several powerful stories from Green's life. I think this a great book for both sceptic and believer.

A Must Have/Read Book When Studying the Doctrine of Justification

Very good read and summation of the Protestant Reformation of Faith Alone. Justification by Faith Alone (Sola Fide), the material cause of Reformation versus Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura) was the formal cause of the Reformation. As always, well written and simple to understand Biblical concepts and meanings by Dr. R.C. Sproul. A gifted man and a very sound doctrinal teacher. Have always been a fan!

Justification by the Imputation of Christ's Righteousness Alone

There has always been diversity within Evangelicalism, but also a bedrock of core beliefs, namely sola scriptura (scripture alone) and sola fide (justification by faith alone), that have united us. In recent decades, however, there has been a seismic shift. A recent article in my Reformed denomination's magazine discussed whether the Reformation was even necessary. Nowhere in the lengthy article was sola fide (faith alone) even mentioned, much less discussed. The impression clearly given by this and by other recent publications such as the 1994 Evangelicals and Catholics Together document is that Evangelicals and Catholics do in fact believe the same gospel. The implication is that the split in Christendom caused by the Reformation should never have happened.

R.C. Sproul wrote this book in response to the new ecumenical mood. He explains why the precise language used by the Reformers was not theological hair-splitting, that the stand they took against Rome was not a tragic, unnecessary tempest in a teapot. He shows that current attempts at finding a unity of faith are essentially meaningless because both sides can read diametrically different theologies into the same words.

We learn that the ultimate issue of the Reformation had to do with the grounds of our justification: on what basis will God ever declare a person to be just? The Roman Catholic Church says the only way God will ever declare a person just is on the basis of inherent righteousness. Of course you can't be righteous without the help of Christ and grace, but though these are necessary for justication, they are not sufficient. You must cooperate with infused grace such that righteousness inheres within you; it becomes your own.

The problem, says Sproul, is that "all the benefits of sacramental grace, as powerful and effective as they are claimed to be, do not gain us the holiness required by absolute justice.

Healing Read, Written In a Down-to-Earth Style

Esther Smithâs book aims at healing the chronically ill individual on an emotional and spiritual plane. We generally address the physically ill with solutions to reduce the physical element of the illness which is great but it doesnât hit the emotional and spiritual elements that are greatly impacted by a physical burden. One of the major missing components is the need to grieve, which Esther touches on beautifully in a refreshingly honest approach. An individual facing a physical infirmity needs to be allowed the permission to âhash outâ the horrors of a life altered from their illness with God, just as David cried with unabashed vulnerability to his Lord, and just like Job lamented his life turned to despair. Unfortunately, all too often in the religious community, we wish to bandage up the problem with quick Bible verses that are meant to heal but are not appropriate remedies in the moment. We forget to mourn with those who mourn.

Esther Smith writes in a down-to-earth approach that allows the reader to grieve the life that once was and the life that could have been. Included in the book are her own personal struggles with chronic pain as well as input from others that are along a similar journey that is italicized throughout, all written with sincerity that does not refrain from allowing the reader to sense the palpable pain. Aside from the much admired Joni Eareckson Tada, I have found a lack of books that are both Biblically based and emotionally safe which are specifically targeted to the chronically ill. This book was so refreshingly real, that I could have read two hundred more pages of similar material and still would have wanted more. On that note, I hope to see Esther Smith use her useful skills in counseling combined with her superb writing to publish an in-print book that can be found in bookstores nationwide. If youâre looking for a healing read or if you are seeking to find material to help understand the world of a loved one I chronic pain, this is a perfect place to start.

That being said, this really is my kind of book. Christian counseling, spiritually uplifting, and introspective.

As a Christian, I turn to the Lord for help, I cling to His promises, and rely on His power. It is He alone who sustains me! So, it stands to reason, I would want counsel that supports the Word of God.

Chronic pain and illness are very hard to live with 24/7 year after year.

Offering a Gift

Steve Carter is a pastor I call "on fire" at my church; he has this simple, yet deeply spiritually guided way of speaking that reaches right into me. I preordered my copy months ago, (and one for a friend!) and I'm happy to say it is written in the same very way he speaks! This book is an offering of a gift we all are invited to share in. As I soak up words, and phrases, and sentences that literally "jump off the page to me," I can't help but wonder what amazing things God is up to, and what is possible through all those who will read this book. I'm framing Page 194, I have a feeling you will too! Thanks Steve Carter for helping all of us discover our God intended stories, and for the wisdom of how we can share them; all glory be to Him; Only God!

A Calling for "Christians" to be Christ-Followers and Disciples!

This Invitational Life is not just a book. It is a calling. A calling for "Christians" to be Christ-followers and disciples. To go beyond a comfortable, church attending, doing good lifestyle, where risk aversion is prevalent, and do what Jesus actually intended the Church to do. Steve Carter's prompting to bring Jesus' grace and peace into other people's stories of brokenness and burdens has changed my view of evangelism completely. I pray that Steve's words resonate with many more and we will indeed redeem the word "evangelism," to be the Good News people so desperately need.

Worth the Risk.

From the opening pages of the book you are challenged and reminded that the life that Christ calls us to live is not one that we are supposed to keep to ourselves. His grace, His hope, His redemption and peace are to be offered to all people. That's the model Christ gave, and that's the model that Steve is encouraging us to live into.

This Invitational Life challenged me to live my life with a posture of welcome to the one who doesn't know Jesus yet. Our churches should not exist for the people who are already there, instead they should exist for the person who isn't there yet. But to get to these places we mush be willing to risk it all to get there. Risk reputation. Risk our comfort. Risk our own sacred cows of theology. All so that we could model the life Christ lived to the people around us.

I can't wait to read this book again. I even bought an extra copy to give away.

I was blessed to have the chance to see Steve Carter preach at Rock Harbor Fullerton when I was in college and am so glad he is now sharing his wisdom and heart with the world! "This Invitation Life" challenges Christians to live up to the example that Christ set: to invite everyone to the table.
