    Title: The Struggle Within
    Author: Verwayne Greenhoe
    Narrator: Aaron Clawitter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 58 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-24-15
    Publisher: Verwayne Greenhoe
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Depression is almost a national disease and, by and large, it is an affliction suffered in silence. Our world moves at breakneck speed and the first time that many "close friends" ever discover that their loved one, neighbor, or spouse is depressed is when that person "acts out" in an act of violence to others or an act of violence toward themselves in the form of suicide. This book will help you recognize some of the warning signs. This is partially based on people I have known in my life and career as a medic and a nurse, and the story of my wife and how depression overcame her.
    Members Reviews:
You don't have to be clinically depressed to see yourself in this book.
From the first paragraph of this extremely honest look at depression I could identify with what Mr. Greenhoe was sharing. He hit the nail on the head when he identified each of us as our own worst critic. No one goes through life with out bouts of despair, it's human nature. How we are emotionally and mentally equipped as we ride the roller coaster known as life determines just how far we drop into the valleys and how long we stay there. For some, it's most if not all of their lives.
Verwayne Greenhoe's narrative about his personal experiences, the toll living with a depressed spouse takes on one, and how he copes with it is written in a relaxed easy to read style, and he speaks from the heart. The Struggle Within is a worthwhile read.
he helps the reader understand when intervention is necessary to save a life - either that of a loved one or your own
This is a startlingly frank look at depression from the view of someone who has seen it up close and personal without having been consumed by it. The personal story of Verwayne's wife, Judy, rings very true to any of us who have lost livelihoods before we were ready to retire. The anecdotes he shares with the reading audience touch many nerves and make us feel empathy for the victims. Last but not least, he helps the reader understand when intervention is necessary to save a life - either that of a loved one or your own. The technique he describes for learning to slow one's own breathing and heart rate is something I plan to work on in my own life. Highly recommended!

    Title: Playing Scared
Subtitle: A History and Memoir of Stage Fright
    Author: Sara Solovitch
    Narrator: Dina Pearlman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 5 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-28-15
    Publisher: Audible Studios for Bloomsbury
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
This cultural history and memoir of stage fright will resonate with anyone terrified of speaking or performing in public.
Stage fright is one of the human psyche's deepest fears, challenging actors, musicians, professional athletes, and people from all walks of life. Surveys in the United States repeatedly rank public speaking as one of the top fears, affecting up to 74 percent of people.
Sara Solovitch studied piano as a young child and fell in love with music. At 10 she played Bach and Mozart in her hometown's annual music festival but was overwhelmed by fear. As a teen she attended Eastman School of Music, where stage fright led her to give up aspirations of becoming a professional pianist. In her late 50s, Sara gave herself a one-year deadline to tame performance anxiety and play before an audience. She resumed music lessons while exploring meditation, exposure therapy, cognitive therapy, biofeedback, beta blockers, and other remedies. She performed in airports, hospitals, and retirement homes before renting a public hall and performing for 50 guests on her 60th birthday. Using her own journey as inspiration, Solovitch has written a thoughtful and insightful examination of the myriad causes of stage fright and the equally diverse ways to overcome it, and a tribute to pursuing personal growth at any age.
    Critic Reviews:
"If your knees knock, your heart races and your sweat glands become hydrants at the terrifying prospect of taking the stage, you're in good company. I once had stage fright. So did Sara Solovitch. If you're in the club, fear not. This book will set you free." (Steve Lopez, author of The Soloist: A Lost Dream, An Unlikely Friendship and the Redemptive Power of Music)
    Members Reviews:
    Perfection or excellence?
Fifteen minutes into this book I asked myself if there was anything else to be said (or heard). I dont have stage fright and was not particularly interested on the topic itself. But, Action is the key to success has always been my favorite maxim, so I was curious as to how someone deals with an impediment (that seems so unreal) to fulfilling his or her dreams and do what they love or want to do. Sara Solovitch touches on everything you can think of about the subject not boring you with one chapter on this, and another on that. Her odyssey with stage fright is told in a very resolute style and is intertwined with interviews with people of all kinds of background, scientific research, feedback from psychotherapists, and more.
Engineers and statisticians account for error, tolerance and noise in their designs and data analyses. Why not artists? Perfection is not only an illusion: its boring! I love that.
    Excellent book. Dreadful Narrator
What did you love best about Playing Scared?
A very thorough look at stage fright, some great personal stories.
How could the performance have been better?
I'm sure she would make a wonderful kindergarten teacher, but her performance came off as condescending. She also mis-pronounced the name of almost every single composer and musical term mentioned. Do a little bit of research - it's a book about music. Finally, I can't stand it when they do voices. Just read the quote in your own voice. I know you're an out of work actor, but it's unbelievably annoying.

    Excerpt:
"Hello there. I am glad you're here. You are struggling with an OCPD spouse who is driving you crazy. You want to be carefree and spontaneous. But at home you are faced with demands, critiques, and rigidity. You want to have fun with your husband, but he just plain seems like a stubborn ox at times (or maybe all the time, depending upon how bad his symptoms are).
"You may be wondering what qualifies me to write a book about OCPD marriage. I, my friend, am quite happily married to an OCPD'er. He is probably a little bit like your OCPD spouse because their traits are pretty similar. If I start to talk about him, it's likely things will start to feel a bit familiar for you. Your spouse doesn't have to have all of these traits, just some of them.
"Please download our OCPD series of books in order to learn more about your spouse's disorder, the reason behind the disorder, and your choices when it comes to an OCPD marriage."

A well-worth adding to one's library OCPD book
To date, this is the best kindle book Ms. Snow has authored on the mental illness of OCPD. She presents very astute Insights she has acquired on the subject of the OCPD male/female relationship, and outlines persuasively how the OCPD person's family history can be instrumental in instilling OCPD traits into the psyche of those prone to this disorder. This kindle book is a fine addition to the understanding of one's spouse or partner who is bound by obsessions, compulsions, and misperceptions about life; as Ms. Snow offers a number of keys to a more fulfilling life between both parties, which is possible when such keys are recognized and implemented. Worth adding to one's library on this vitally misunderstood subject! Sincerely, Mack Ethridge, President, New Frontier Health Research, and author of When OCPD Meets the Power of God.
Just read about ocpd and you'll get the point of this whole book
Nothing more to say. Really.it's short and you can get the information from other sources. Just do a Google search.
    Shortchanged
Author seemed somewhat knowledgeable. However the entire book felt like an introductory chapter. I couldn't believe it was over and that I had wasted $2.99 on, well...Basically an entire book that felt like an introductory chapter.

Title: The Narcissist Test: How to spot outsized egos...and the surprising things we can learn from them
    Author: Dr Craig Malkin
    Narrator: Kiff VandenHeuvel
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 5 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-16-15
    Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
We all know that being a narcissist is a bad thing, but what really is narcissism? An incurable disease set to ruin your future, a habit which can be cured, or a trait to be nurtured? And how can you spot if your partner, child, or - God forbid - you are one?
Insightful and revolutionary, The Narcissist Test answers all these questions and more.
Narcissism is all around us: reality TV shows celebrate attention-seeking know- and do-nothings; little girls parade in clothes stamped with "Princess"; a whopping 500 million tweets narrating each and every thought and whim are posted daily; and now the world has gone mad for selfies.
In The Narcissist Test, clinical psychologist Dr Craig Malkin delves into the motivations behind these self-absorbed expressions, revealing which are the most damaging and arguing that, contrary to popular belief, it is a habit which can be remedied.
As supportive as it is illuminating, The Narcissist Test is also the first and only book that not only makes the distinction between healthy and unhealthy narcissism but offers clear, step-by-step guidance on how to promote the healthy kind in your partner, your children, and yourself. From advice tailored to parents, social media users and even schools, this is the definitive text on a trait threatening to dominate an entire generation.
Dr Craig Malkin is a clinical psychologist hailing from Harvard with over two decades of experience helping individuals, couples and families.

A bit over optimistic about narcissism I think, although it did explain the different types of narcissism well. This book is more about mild narcissism and does not deal with for example narcissistic abuse in detail
