Candy Lessons Learned
Do you like candy? Have you ever eaten so much candy it made you sick?
The author, Leela Hope, has written a funny and important book for all children and their parents. Lee was a little boy who lived in a cottage by a lake. One day when Lee's mother was out gardening, Lee found a tin full of candy. Lee started to eat the candy and could not stop, he kept stuffing it in his mouth. Soon Lee's mother came home and found Lee lying on the flour, and he was all green. He was twice the size he had been, and she could not get him to move. She called the doctor who told her this was the worst case he had ever seen. When you read this book you will understand what happens. It isn't pretty.
Parents/teachers will enjoy reading this book to their children. The children will learn a great lesson, and they will remember it for a long long time. The story is told in rhyme, and that is the best method for children and their parents to read and enjoy. The illustrations are bright, vivid and colorful. They depict all of the adventures of Lee and his eating escapade. This is a wonderful story about eating too much candy, and what happens when all that sugar is in your system. A wonderful story for us all.

âItâs okay to eat candy, But not a whole big tin.â
San Diego, California Author Leela Hope studied English Literature at Berkeley, earning a degree in 1989. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. And it is there that her star shines brightest. Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting!
Leela writes with such polished rhyming that from page one on the music is there: âThere is a cottage by the lake, Beside an old oak tree, Itâs the home of a daring boy, Who goes by the name Lee.â Lee discovers a tin of candy, opens it and eats all the candy in side â an act that makes him bloat, turn green, and nearly go into coma. His frightened mother finds him â now doubled in size and emitting a sugary smell. She calls the doctor who sees Leeâs recovery in the form of vegetables and fruits made into smoothies. The doctor and Leeâs mother feed him the healthy food and Lee shrinks back down to normal size and decides he will eat better â and only have an occasional candy!
This is a fun story, carries some laughs and a lot of lessons for children (and parents) and is another very fine book by Leela Hope. Grady Harp, December 15
