I would. To the normal waking person it may seem strange, but when accompanied by a mushroom or two you definitely get it.

There is no comparing this level of wisdom to anything. Ram Dass see's existence for what it is, and lays some heavy ideas on you.

Definately, though if you were to listen to it in one sitting, you may not absorb the amazing amount of wisdom he displays.

This was obviously made in the 60's or 70's when use of psychedelics were very popular. My normal consciousness couldn't quite grasp it, but after eating one special mushroom containing (censored) I fully understood everything he was trying to say, and it absolutely changed my life. It made me realize how silly the ego is. It's not as big as we think it is, and you don't have to get rid of it. The Ego serves a purpose in the physical world, however, nothing beyond that. It is when you get lost in the illusion of ego that you run into issues.

I loved this audio. I have listened so many times I also play it while I sleep. This is one of my favorites from Ram Das.

I should have known better...

Any additional comments?

As old as I am, I still sometimes fail to listen to that small voice in my head that screams, "Don't Do It!!!" This was just such a case. I read the reviews for Dr. Roth's book. They were generally positive and some were even enthusiastic. But I came across one well-written review (and I am sorry that I don't have his name to give you as a reference) that really caught my eye. It was spot on. And like the stubborn person I am, I bought Dr. Roth's book anyway. And...I regret it!

I can save you a lot of time by giving you the two major themes of the book...

1. "Doing something is better than not doing something."

2. "I love my platitudes and bumper sticker folksy adages, so here are 12 chapters full of them"

The book fails to meet the lofty expectations generated by that great title. In fact, this book fails to meet any expectations at all. It is a series of random stores and anecdotes. It is Dr. Roth's "I love me...you will too" recitation of many experiences he has had and his observations on life based on his interaction with college students spanning 50 years. Wonderful! This is your life, Dr. Roth! Hardly a roadmap to developing "The Achievement Habit".

As I said, I sometimes don't remember to follow my own instincts. This book was just a series of platitudes so I'll give you one I learned a long time ago that's truly applicable here:

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach". I should have remembered this one...

Absolute garbage- do not read

I found this book to be completely useless. 11 chapters of very minimally thoughtful stories and anecdotes. Even among the often trite self-help books this one ranks at the bottom

Much better than the rest!

If you're looking for a quick tricks on how to pickup chicks book, this is not for you. This is a great read on what a real man is and can be. Everyone man should be required to read this just to learn how to be a better version of themselves. Highly recommended.

This book seems like it was created overnight. The information isn't helpful and it almost comes from an evolutionist-new age-atheistic point of view. Not saying it is, but the beliefs here will rub you the wrong way. Even if it doesnt, this book has no real "meat".

Insightful

I loved this book and after listening to most of it I got it on Kindle as well.

Me to a T!

I laughed, cried and everything in between! When did I get to know the author? How did she know me so well? What an amazing explanation to everything I feel. Loved it.

Needed to hear all this!

I couldn't figure out why I was becoming so depressed and getting worse with all my fixes like making strict schedules and making sure my surroundings were meticulously cleaned by me. Now I understand what it is I really need to do and am looking forward to the future again.

Perfect for MBTI Nerds

I had so much fun listening to this book! It helped me understand myself better, and gave me a lot of ideas for my relationships with other types. As much as I've read about ENFPs, I was surprised that there was so much I didn't know. Really really great book! Honestly, I think any MBTI nerd would like it, regardless of type.

What is it you expect?

I like the candidness and honesty of this book. Amber Rose is unapologetic, insightful, funny and real. I didn't know much about her before I read the book. It was passed on to me by my husband. I'm glad I heard the audio in her own voice which I think adds to the books sincerity and interest. I wish I had read this when I was a teenager! That's who i would really recommend this book to. Teenagers, young single women, young career driven women and men. She has a practical and logical thought process that I think would appeal to male reader/listener. Her book is a thorough approach to how women can reach their maximum potential in life, no apologies, with compassion and honesty. I think I connected to it be cause it paints a real picture of what it is typically like for a woman to come of age in the society we live in. My background was much more privileged than hers was, but I dealt with similar situations and mentalities as I was growing up. That's why I wish I had read this book when I was young. I like to think it would have been an insightful read when there were few people in my life who understood how steer me clear of unnecessary pain and heartache that stemmed from not knowing how to be a bad bitch; or that being a bad bitch was even a viable consideration. Now as a grown woman I'm delighted to listen to this powerful lady and to feel that her position in this world is a boost for womankind. Yeah, I really do. She's a great female human-being role model, full of integrity.

A short but effective primer on Stoic thinking.

I came to this book after having read STOICISM: The Ultimate Handbook to Philosophy, Wisdom, and Way of Life, which was, if nothing else, a cost-effective entry point into the school of thought. intrigued, I decided to take it further, and began to read Meditations, and sought out a practical book for modern Stoic application. In a word, this book is that, in that it is less an answer, and more of s next step in Stoic learning. I recommend it.

Great subject matter but a lacking work

The author touches on Epictetus and Seneca, as well as Marcus Aurelius and others, but just gives such a fleeting overview that the value I got from listening was pretty shallow. The narrator also is overly careful in his reading and makes it slow to listen to.

Super short. Barely a pamphlet.

It's not bad and would be useful as a basic introduction. But certainly not worth the money.

Way too short

TARGET AUDIENCE: Anyone looking for an introduction to Stoicism.

NARRATOR: Excellent narration. Prosody and flow of the reading was superb. I usually listen to my books on 2x or 3x, and it was still easy to listen to and follow as this narrator read this book.

OVERALL: Great introduction. I loved stoicism, and would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a brief understanding of what stoicism is and how it can help us. The author successfully shows us how this philosophy, which has been around for hundreds of years, is still very applicable in our everyday lives.

Solid!

The content of this audio book is absolutely brilliant and life changing for those who persue awakening and enlightment. Being read by Michael himself adds additional resonance to truth within the "pages".

One thing you need to know is: Beware, this book has life altering effects and should not be taken lightly. The person who starts to listen and choose to say yes, is not the same person who finishes this masterpiece.

Disappointed

Disappointing content - seems like the author is on a path to enlightenment but his teachings do not execute or translate to his audience very well. The book needs some work. The voice over was also a challenge with a raspy whisper throughout the entire book.

The content is excellent: insightful, nourishing and transformative. It has provided me with an enriched vocabulary to talk about my life journey and spiritual practice.

The subject matter is beyond interesting - it is essential to expression and experience of our true nature whilst experiencing life in the body.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

The book makes visioning very explicit and somehow externalises and objectifies it - making it into a process or a practice to be learnt, rather than organic experience that blossoms with spiritual awareness. Whilst for some this may be empowering, I found the dynamism and constant repetition of the key phrases tiring and off putting.

The perfect listen at the perfect time!

As I listened to this piece I was driving to & from physical therapy for a high ankle sprain I suffered just before Christmas. This was my second Christmas without my dearly beloved husband of 45 years, who died of lung cancer on April 23rd, 2014. On January 7th, my employer of 15 years phoned to say that my position was being eliminated effective next Monday. I am now a 70 year old soon to be unemployed exercise specialist and Pilates teacher. Listening to Pema Chdron's excellent commencement address buoyed me up and prepared me to catch the next wave. Thank you so much for this humorous and inspiring listen.

Amazing content unfortunate sound

Pens has an amazing way of sharing lessons. This was a great listen...however at times the lack of pop filter for the interviewer made the whistling S's actually painful to my ears.

Grace in Action

Insights awaken is what that audiobook caused as I listen at 4am. Beautiful!! This is a must re-listen over and over if and only if you choose to transform your outer world --- because you have full control. "Invest your time.. Do not spend your time". What is spent is lost for good. Your graceful investment can only increase your life with more grace.

This one is so good that I gave it a full three times listening and still it is heavy. So I slowed it down and listened to again a couple of times at 2x play back speed and it's still gnarly to wrap my head around.
