    Editorial Reviews:
Walter Covell performs Arthur Quiller-Couch's The Seventh Man with grumbling, sonorous intonation. Listeners will detect the pleasure he takes in his performance of the different characters, including a Russian, an Irishmen, and an invisible man. Yes, "The Seventh Man" isa mysterious short story about six shipwrecked men and the appearance of a seventh man - only this seventh cannot be seen by everyone. Lovers of the supernatural will enjoy this unique adventure story, handsomely written and subtly dramatic.

I enjoy reading the story as Barry first wrote it!
    Good plays for older children
I like the play of Peter Pan better than the story. It reads more like it's meant for children, whereas the novel is very adult to my mind. I also enjoyed the Admirable Crighton. Entertaining but also thought-provoking. A great set of plays for young-adult literature study. Thanks to Van Damme Academy for the recommendation of Admirable Crighton as a play with a clear plot-theme.

    Accessible and entertaining classic
The Invisible Man is one of those classics that has been on my TBR for ages, always getting posponed to read other titles instead. But after a mention that this classic was actually quite entertaining, I decided to finally pick it up. And they were right, because I actually found myself having a lot of fun while readingÂThe Invisible Man. Not only is the prose quite easy to read, but the plot itself is both intriguing and entertaining as things start escalating. The character development has been really well done and shows the effects being invisible can have on a man... If you are looking for an accessible and entertaining classic to read,ÂThe Invisible Man is the choice for you.
    Insightful
Read this book for an English class and I thought it was very insightful. It gave very convincing theories on human nature and what possibly could lay ahead of us in the future. to me this book gave the illusion of mystery by not giving some people names. This mystery exemplified the imagery the time travler gave about the future. the ending heightened the mystery seven fold. I was left wanting more, wanting to know more, and wanting to go back to the future with the time traveler. Made me really think about how the time travelers theories are thought out and could potentially actually happen. Definitely a thought invoking read
    A Great Old War!!
This is a good old fashioned yarn. I read the book through in one or two sittings. HG created a sense of menace and despair through the book, which I loved. His descriptions were evocative of the times, and I could almost visualize the destruction taking place, as the book weaved along.
The writing is, for our times, old fashioned, yet timeless. The almost forgotten craft of writing is something that was displayed through the book. I lost the part where the Martians were 'destroyed'. It would have been really nice to have had a nice description of this, but you can't have everything in life!
If you want a good book to read by the fireside, then this is one I can recommend.
Classic Still Has the Attraction and Impact of A Fresh Story!
The Time Machine, like all of H.G. Well's works, are classics. However, they still are enjoyable even after the umpteenth reading! I like the old (not the newer) version of the movie as well. This is a Victrorian story, keep it Victorian! Trying to update it in the newer movie was doomed to failure. The raw adventure into unknown territory for its time was just short of fantastic. H.G. Wells and Jules Verne cannot come too highly recommended for reading again and again. Like a true classic! You can almost imagine yourself as being there in the middle of the story's I love these two other and have since my youth and always will. I have their complete works in more than one form. Reading all of their stories will not harm anybody!
    Young and Optimistic
I doubt I can do justice to this classic, but I thought I'd just add a line or two.

Like finding your grandmother naked in your bed
Keats wrote for 6 years, and he was dead at 25. These are poems for the young. They are hopeful, sensual, Romantic. For those of us who are older, they are wistful, elegiac, and I suppose voyeuristic, like returning to your high school after 30 years and peering under the bleachers.
Margaret Rawlings (died in 1996 at 89), was a wonderful actress, who knew the repertoire and I believed respected it. She could've played Lear or Falstaff or Gloucester, but only one who is desperate or a hack would perform Keats in her 70s. It is grotesque, like finding your grandmother naked in your bed.

    Fine late James
This book is a masterfully and uncannily astute and deep look into the mind of a child as she observes and is battered by the world of adults. James' deftly delicate treatment the story is moving and enchanting at the same time.
    enjoyable second reading
Having struggled once through Henry James's late prose style in What Maisie Knew, I appreciated it a lot more the second time with the help of Flo Gibson's recording. This is the only audio of this book that I have been able to find, and Gibson's style works pretty well here, although it is sing-songy and monotonous at times. I often went back to read sections I had heard to better pick up the humor and nuances. The sound quality is not great; a few words here and there are inaudible.
    A+
Anyone interested in children, parenthood, selfishness, or personality should read this book. Henry James is obviously one of the most empathetic storytellers in English, as well as one of the most honest. Flo Gibson's narration is perfect.

    Editorial Reviews:
A towering novel in the pantheon of 19th century literature, Jules Vernes Around the World in Eighty Days has been the inspiration for adaptations and homages in nearly every genre. A swashbuckling adventure tale in a line from Cervantes and Homer, the story focuses on a staid English gentleman Phileas Fogg, who makes a bet that he can circumnavigate the globe and return to his social club in 80 days. The audiobook is performed in the distinguished baritone of classics veteran Walter Covell and features such well-loved adventures as the rescue of a condemned Indian woman, an attack by Sioux warriors in America, and mutiny on the high seas. Around the World in Eighty Days endures and lives again in this pleasing audiobook performance.

Around the World in 80 Days
Everyone knows the basic story, but reading the book was quite painful and not enjoyable for a middle schooler who chose it from the summer reading list. It's written in a stuffy, 19th century style, which is great if one enjoys such writing. As an adult, I love the stuff, but it really was hard to wade through the formal prose and starchy descriptions. I don't recommend modernizing it, although that would introduce it to a generation that will otherwise not make an effort.
    Accompanies the Video Trip
Having seen this television series of Michael Palin's trip, this is a nice way to refresh the memory. I understand that the book follows the video series very closely. I intend to read it at some time. I got it for my late husband and he did enjoy reading it. Mr. Palin's observations of the world were very interesting.
David Niven was a perfect choice.
Wonderful book. It evoked my memories of the original movie I watched in younger days. It is also quite a lesson in changing perceptions AND realities. It was, after all, written 143 years ago, and the world has changed a bit. Now you can circumnavigate the globe without even an engine (solar airplane), but between Homeland Security, customs officials everywhere, infrastructure maintenance failures and other modern inconveniences, Mr. Fogg's record might beat yours if you attempted the same route. I wonder if TripAdvisor could set me up . . .
    Good translation and nice themes
One of the more simple works of Verne in my opinion. Good translation and nice themes. The characters themselves didn't attract me a great deal. Fine quality book and a fairly easy read.
    I Always Love This One
I give it five stars. It's always a favorite. I read it with my eleven year old in our homeschool. She said, "It's not my favorite book, but it's okay." I, on the other hand, love the beauty behind the message of Mr. Fogg's journey. It would seem as though there really are some things in life that mean more than glory and riches. ;)

Very pretty, but you must not call it Beowulf
There is some pleasure to be had from this recording: I always enjoy listening to Flo Gibson, and you could make a reasonable argument that the comfortable rhyme employed by this translation substitutes for the less familiar technical aspects of Old English poetry. But ultimately it just doesn't do a very good job capturing the effect of the poem. It's less an heroic song than a winter's tale, told around the fire to children.

    Classic story, well worth rereading
The last time I read this book was close to 60 years ago, while still in high school, where it was assigned, as one of the required books for the term, in our Freshman English class. That was way back, when schools actually required students to read at least 4 books, each semester of every year, just for their English course. While the syntax and language are, at times, arcane, the story is a classic one, to which I recommend all readers.
    Good man found his way
    I read this book , when I was 10or 12 years old.
I was amazed how I saw Robinson Crusoe and Friday this time. I saw a man doing penance for some wrong dealings , and earning his way back to society.
    A classic
I tried to read this book when I was a teenager and I was put off by the language and writing style. This time I stayed with it and was glad I did. The writing style is quite a bit different than today's. Some of the sentences in this book were three pages long. I viewed it on a Kindle and was glad to have the dictionary available to look up some of the terms used. Overall a very good book. It dragged in some spots, especially when he spends forty pages discussing why the settlers should marry the women they've lived with. The scanning was haphazard - there was no editing after it was scanned, so page numbers and odd notations are scattered randomly throughout. It was free, so I can't complain too much.
Perfect for someone who still enjoys picking up a book!
Purchased as a gift for a family member. This was not a new copy and I did not want a new one. The condition was exactly as stated in the description. Classic story and the great feel of an old book. Quite a combination.
    Good read!
How do you get as old as me and not have read Robinson Crusoe? I don't know the answer to that question. My grandson suggested that I read it, and I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
