Ty Elliot returns to his home after an absence of two years, knowing full well the danger which threatens him each hour he lingers in the old cabin in the mountains. But with his father on his death bed and his younger sister exhausted, Ty knows he must remain for a time at least. When his father makes a strange request and begs his returned son to "find her", Ty promises but is bewildered. Who is he to find? How can he set about the task of honoring his word? The only clues the dying man can give his son are a broken locket, a small photograph of a woman, and a few last whispered instructions: "Take care of your sisters." In confusion, Ty turns to his father's childhood friend, Carson, for advice. Would the older man be able to help Ty and his sister, Sally? How much time did Ty have at the cabin before "they" found out? Join Ty, Sally, and Carson on their journey in search of the missing sister. The dangers they encounter, the hardships they face, as well as the friendly homes they visit, will keep you listening. Set in the untamed west of the mid-1800s, this is a story the whole family will enjoy.

Wonderful Characters
I loved the depth with which the author delves into each character and makes each one so real. I can say with honesty that the character development in this story is excellent. It's something many writers have lost these days. Also very intriguing. I couldn't put it down and that's saying a lot because I have read a lot from a lot of different genres. This one is food for the soul of the reader.
A fun, exciting, and attention-grabbing book
I really enjoyed this book! I have read a lot of this author's novels, and they are all wonderful, but this one is near the top of my list of favorites. Though some aspects of the plot were predictable, I was surprised and pleased by a few unexpected twists. It kept my attention and made me want to continue reading. I hope Rebekah writes more westerns!
It took a bit, but it was worth the ride. =)
Letâs start at the very beginning. Itâs a very good place to start. ;) The cover! Absolutely beautiful, and it reflects the feeling of the story very well. Iâve been eyeing the cover alone for quite a while. =)
Now, on to the actual story.
Setting: 5/5 Very well done. I felt that I was firmly established in another place, feeling the air, seeing the sights, smelling the smells. Nothing that I remember jarred me from the feeling of being Out West. This story covered a lot of territory (literallyâmountains, desert, snow, prairies), and I always felt sure of what sort of land the characters were passing through. Very solid there!
Characters: 4/5 It took a bit, especially with Sally (but I have a hard time liking that name, so she had an unfair amount of prejudice to overcome. =P) But the characters were distinct from each other, even the lesser characters brought in here and there. There are bits of witty dialogue that give you a good feeling of the camaraderie between the three main characters, and not much superfluous chatting. I liked Ty the best (no prejudice to overcome there. Names that start with âTâ are a favorite of mine. =P) Their feelings and motivations felt real, rather than them being put on for the storyâs sake. The folks they meet at the end were well done too.
Writing style: 3.5-4/5 It felt slow, especially at first.
