On Becoming a Person:A Therapists view
This book is a staple of learning in the field of psychology.Client based therapy was not an idea before Carl R Rogers developed it in the 1960's.Most Psychology students will recall reading at least parts of it.In fact,my husband came in the room and knew what I was listening to.He read it in college!
The introduction was fascinating to me.Listening to how he came to some of his ideas and why they were so important was eye opening.Joe Hempel was the perfect narrator. He has a very nice voice, his inflection and feelings come through nicely.I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
Roger's has several key chapters here where he's

    social today
This book i it gives you a good scientific background on how our minds work and why they work that way, in addition to referencing the history of mindfulness and the way it's part of our society today.
    learned a lot
I really enjoyed the approach this book takes. It encourages you to go through slowly, one chapter per week, doing the exercises and really thinking about how you feel and why you feel that way. The book encourages you to change aspects of your thinking and your behavior by suggesting alternative ways of being. A lot of the material proved to be an eye opener for me. It is essential that the reader takes the time to write down their thoughts as requested throughout the book. Take the time to review these notes as you progress through the book, you will learn a lot
    stress relief guide
This is a straight forward, easy to understand CBT book. It explains what you are doing every step of the way, and is really very helpful. I loses a star because the 7 weeks is only really possible if you used this book for about an hour each day. This is still a very good book, and while I'm far from finished with it, I've already begun to experience some relief.
    excellent book
I work in the mental health field and have had training on CBT and seen the results of this type of therapy. I found the book to be very easy to read and understandable. If a person cannot (or will not) attend therapy in person this seems like the next best thing, especially if the depression and/or anxiety is not already too debilitating. Some people will need the professional help. If someone you love would benefit from CBT then you should read this book as well.

Human manipulation is a subtle yet very powerful force that you can use to your advantage. An in depth guide of proven manipulation techniques.
    Four Stars
Still reading but so far so good
    The book very well explained
A good Manipulation example of this would be sales agents. They first find out what you need, and then they offer you a product. When they offer you a product, they also tell you about the features of the product, as well as what makes it the best product to satisfy your needs. As if to persuade you further, they will I features or benefits of using the product. Of course, you should avoid overselling something. Just like any professional sales agent, they do not make claims that are not real. In the same way, when you persuade or manipulate someone, you should only state things that are real and truthful. This is another thing that makes manipulation so subtle and powerful.
    OK for beginner
It's OK but nothing new here. For someone who has always felt they could not get the upper hand, this would be a good beginning. Practical and easy to read. But, nothing advanced or new.
    Three Stars
Short and not really much to it

    creativity: Breaking, Blending, Bending.
Elegantly simple thesis, deconstructing the human creative process into three discrete, interrelated processes. If you like Pinker, Gladwell, Dawkins, Harari, then Runaway Species is required reading.
endless list of historical facts or items
Maybe there are some good points in the book but it is filled with very long lists of frivolous of items or historical facts. I am giving up trying to listen to it after the first few chapters. The percentage of irrelevant material is very high. So the book becomes major waste of time.

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 36 votes
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
Dr. John Bargh, the world's leading expert on the unconscious mind, presents a groundbreaking book, 20 years in the making, that gives us an entirely new understanding of the hidden mental processes that secretly govern every aspect of our behavior.
For more than three decades, Dr. John Bargh has been responsible for the revolutionary research into the unconscious mind, research that informed best sellers like Blink and Thinking Fast and Slow. Now, in what Dr. John Gottman said "will be the most important and exciting book in psychology that has been written in the past 20 years", Dr. Bargh takes us on an entertaining and enlightening tour of the forces that affect everyday behavior while transforming our understanding of ourselves in profound ways.
Telling personal anecdotes with infectious enthusiasm and disclosing startling and delightful discoveries, Dr. Bargh takes the listener into his labs at New York University and Yale where he and his colleagues have discovered how the unconscious guides our behavior, goals, and motivations in areas like race relations, parenting, business, consumer behavior, and addiction. He reveals what science now knows about the pervasive influence of the unconscious mind in who we choose to date or vote for, what we buy, where we live, how we perform on tests and in job interviews, and much more. Because the unconscious works in ways we are completely unaware of, Before You Know It is full of surprising and entertaining revelations as well as tricks to help you remember to-do items, shop smarter, and sleep better.
Destined to be a best seller, Before You Know It is an intimate introduction to a fabulous world only recently discovered, the world that exists below the surface of your awareness and yet is the key to knowing yourself and unlocking new ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Love books that go quick. Well put!
Great storyline with in-depth discussions on how we tick. Definitely great material to read or listen.
pretty decent book with global warming scaring
I think he's got some pretty good research but I am tired of the liberal agenda continually being put into books it's almost as if these guys are writing these books to get their political agenda across will tell you interesting Neuroscience if you listen to our political agenda rants. at least he was honest about it up front so I could prepare my filtration system against propaganda
    Great read!
I found this book to be very insightful and well narrated. I will definitely use what I have learned.
    An important, life changing book.
Do we truly understand why we do the things we do? If you aren't sure, then you should listen to or read this book. Dr. Bargh shows through a systematic exploration of many years of scientific discoveries in his lab as well as the in the psychological and neurological sciences that much of our actions are influenced by factors beyond our awareness. He presents a clear picture of how we can become more effective by understanding how these unconscious mechanisms work. For example he shows how unconscious behavior can lead to deadly consequences in law enforcement, and how simple thought procedures can result in fewer violent encounters. It can be a scary thought (as evident by the negative reviews) that much of our behavior is beyond our conscious control.

  • People Born in June Audiobook by Andrey Davydov, Olga Skorbatyuk, Kate Bazilevsky

    Title: People Born in June
Subtitle: Anti-Horoscope: Human "Software", Book 6
Author: Andrey Davydov, Olga Skorbatyuk, Kate Bazilevsky
    Narrator: Kimberly Logan
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 32 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-10-17
    Publisher: HPA Press
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
This is book 6 in a series of 12 books.
Did you know that those born on June 4 (leap years) or June 5 (common years) are not only perpetual servants by character, and are flexible, try to please and anticipate desires ("the master is laughing - I'm laughing"; "the master is sad - I'm sad"), but also they will ask a great price of "the master" for being whoever the master wants to see? They are masters of illusions, lie with or without reason....
Or, for example, did you know that those people, who were born on June 6 of leap years or on June 7 of common years are not only very flexible and display the calmness of a Sphinx on their faces, but in matrimonial relations (and they always seek to have a family) they act like a night cuckoos and will cuckoo anyone over: unobtrusively, between the pillows they will get what they want "into their spouse's head?" And, these people are essentially untamable like cats who always walk around by themselves.
Hence the question: are you sure that you know people whom you think you know as your own self? Yes, of course, you know them, if we take word-play into account. You really do know them like you know yourself - that is: just as badly! You know your own and other people's masks and roles, but that is all. You do not believe this? Then, listen to this audiobook and hear for yourself!
This book is for those people who are fed up with "horoscopism", who are tired of listening to nonsense about themselves and other people from psychologists or their "all-knowing" relatives, friends and acquaintances. It will help you save not just some time in your life, but your whole life because otherwise you will spend your entire life on something that is a priori impossible. And, it is impossible not because you are idiots, but because Homo sapiens cannot fully know themselves and other people without an external (and, most importantly, objective) source. Perhaps that is the reason why humanity was left "factory instructions" to each one of us.

Title: Archetype Semantics: How It Corresponds to the Concept of "An Image": How Archetypal Are Images?
Subtitle: Archetypal Pattern: Fundamentals of Non-Traditional Psychoanalysis, Book 3
    Author: Andrey Davydov, Olga Skorbatyuk
    Narrator: David Loving
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 1 hr
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-09-17
    Publisher: HPA Press
Genres: Science & Technology, Psychology & The Mind
    Publisher's Summary:
An image is archetypal only when it is an individual value, which through natural analogs allows a person to learn about himself, obtain information about his individual qualities recorded in the individual structure of psyche, which ultimately allows a person to legalize his own innate qualities.
The authors reason that logically an archetype in its traditional consideration cannot be that prototype (preimage), which, as an initial idea, determines the individual human psyche because by definition it belongs to culture - it is its artifact. Consequently, according to existing semantics, an archetype can be anything except an archetype as an idea. This scientific paper examines whether semantics of an archetype in its traditional sense corresponds to the concept of "an image" if an image is considered in terms of "a copy", "a duplicate"; can an archetype of culture be seriously considered as something that directly forms individual human psyche, as a structure that appeared long before symbolism?
The authors think that not every image is archetypal because not every image is equal to prototype (preimage), as an initial idea corresponding to the concept of "an archetype." An image is archetypal only when it is an individual value, which, through natural analogues, allows a person to learn about his own self and learn about his individual qualities, recorded in the individual structure of psyche, which, as a result, provides a person with a possibility to legalize his own innate qualities.
