    Disappointing
This is only the third time in my blogging career that I have had to write a DNF (did not finish) review. I barely passed the 50 page mark. After that, I couldn't take it anymore. I would rather bang my head against a brick wall repeatedly than finish this novel. The writing style was absolutely atrocious. I don't think I have read anything this poorly written in years. The pacing of the novel was horribly slow. I felt like I was trying to walk through freshly poured concrete trying to get where I did in the novel. When something interesting finally did happen, it went back to being boring again in the next chapter. I didn't feel any emotional attachment to any of the characters. They were all easily forgettable. Needless to say, I won't be reading any of Daniel Blythe's future novels.
    Genaral opinion
I really liked this book after the first two chapters. I really like how the characters worked with each other. I really hope you enjoy this book.

    Title: Her Teen Dream
    Author: Devon Vaughn Archer
    Narrator: Quiana Goodrum
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 23 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-08-11
    Publisher: R. Barri Flowers
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
In this young-adult coming-of-age novel, Karin Blanch is a 16-year-old sophomore at Elmwood High in Crescent Heights, California. She experiences the trials, tribulations, and peer and familial pressures of first love when she becomes involved with senior basketball star Reese McKenzie.
Reese solicits Karin's help after fellow basketball player Marcus Payne gets into trouble, involving alcohol abuse and vandalism. Karin asks her criminal-attorney father to represent Marcus pro bono, which he agrees to do.
After that crisis is resolved, Karin's neighbor and best friend, Lesley Rochester, starts to date Marcus. While Karin has a home with both parents, Lesley lives with her widowed mother, who has a new boyfriend.
Karin's involvement with Reese is tested as she tries to resist his pressures to go all the way in the face of competition from Reese's ex-girlfriend, Cheryl Gibson, a gorgeous cheerleader, who still pines for him and goes out of her way to try and sabotage their relationship.
Just when it seems as if Reese is all Karin could ask for in a dream guy, Lesley drops a bombshell by claiming that Reese sexually assaulted her at a party. Karin is stunned and conflicted. Once again, she turns to her father to help Reese legally, though uncertain of his innocence. Karin finds herself torn between her best friend and boyfriend as she seeks to get to the truth, while hoping it's possible to keep both relationships intact.
The shocking ending will reveal all to Karin - but at what price to her budding romance?

    Good, Healthy, Interest Keeping Storyline
Without revealing too much, this book is believable and relate-able from the reasoning of the leading lady's friend's (sorry, I read this awhile ago, so I forgot everyone's names) lie about who molested her to the leading lady's feeling about the leading man, as well as her grief over choosing whom to side with. Happy ending is all I will say (not so happy an end for the sequel).
    (3.5 Stars) Her Teen Dream
Karin Blanch is a sophomore at Elmwood High in California. Although she is the daughter of a well-known lawyer, she seems to play the shadows at school. The only person she is close to is her best friend, Lesley, who lives next door. They both have dreams of being popular in school, and both have crushes on basketball players.
Star basketball player Reese McKenzie, a senior, asks for Karin's help after Marcus Payne, a fellow basketball player, is in trouble. Without the help of some legal counsel, Marcus just may wind up behind bars and lose all that he has worked so hard for. Could this be the "in" the girls hoped for?
Her Teen Dream by Devon Vaughn Archer is a young adult novel that any teenage girl can relate to. A story that has real problems of today's youth. Mr. Archer is to be commended on touching upon such issues that include an underlying message. Although parts of the story were a little slow, Her Teen Dream was a good read.

    Publisher's Summary:
Rachel Crane was just six when her older sister, Brooke, died in a car accident 10 years ago at the age of 16. Rachel often wishes that Brooke was still alive and there for her. That fantasy has to take a back seat to the reality of being sent to spend the summer with her grandmother, leaving Rachel's boyfriend, Duncan, behind in Lake Melrose, Oregon.
Just before she's supposed to leave home, Rachel runs up to the attic - a place she often goes for some down time. A mysterious antique musical clockwatch literally appears at her feet. She picks it up, feels slightly dizzy, and finds herself transported back in time to the day her sister died.
Before Rachel can prevent the tragedy from happening, she must convince Brooke and herself that she is not losing her mind or caught up in a dream.
But changing the past comes at a price. Can Rachel successfully save Brooke's life? If so, will history repeat itself? Or will it lead to a far worse scenario for the unlikely teenager sisters as the past and future come together as danger in time?
This exciting and suspenseful mystery tackles time travel like never before. It's sure to engage listeners as the plot thickens and the characters deal with the intricacies and inherent dangers of disrupting the natural flow of time.

If you are a very young teen:
    you might enjoy this.
If not, then this book is probably not worth the credit or the cash. The story is thin and implausible even for being about time travel. The characters really had little personality and I could not bring myself to care if the protagonist saved her sister or not.
The narrator was not bad; she was enthusiastic and pleasant-sounding. She did the best one could do with the material.

    Publisher's Summary:
The king of Lóng City is dying. For Kai Zou, the news means more than it does for most former street rats in the small mountain stronghold, because he and the kings daughter are close friends. Then the majestic ruler of the ghost dragons orders Kai to travel across the country to the Phoenix Empire, where the princess is learning statecraft. Kai and his best friend Yún must endure a grueling trek, placate a persnickety griffin, and navigate layers of danger and court intrigue to help the princess escape and return to Lóng City.
A refreshing mixture of magic, wit, and action, Fox and Phoenix is an auspicious YA debut.

    Far east style fantasy.
I can't tell you what culture inspired this fantasy, (Vietnamese,Chinese?). The real joy of this book is that it is from the opposite side of the world from western traditions, making for a refreshing new slant on magic.
Every person has an animal spirit that shows up in their childhood, sort of like The Golden Compass. But the resemblance to that book ends there. (If you read Golden Compass after watching the movie, you will be very sad. The movie ended before the horrible ending inflicted by the author.)
Kai Zou's animal spirit is a pig, a smelly pig with a smart mouth. He is usually right, which annoys Kai Zou no end. There are lots of other spirit animals, a (dead) stone griffin, and there are dragons - ghost dragons, of the occidental type.
Kai Zou is a street lord, with a small gang of friends, each of whom have strengths and weaknesses. Kai Zou's mother owns a magic shop and teaches magic; Kai Zou has to help out, creating conflicts between his street life and home life.
In the previous book, Kai Zou gave the Princess her impossible wish. This book is the fall out from that wish. This book stands on it's own but it would be nice if the prequel was read by this same reader. I give the reader high marks for the accent, as well as the reading, which contributes to the oriental atmosphere.
And the food they eat sounds great. Wish the restaurants were in Tucson.
This book is on my list of best of 2012 (that's when I found it) along with "The Wizard of Dark Street", and all time favorite "Fly by Night".
Here's hoping for sequels or companion books.

Popular author Tara Altebrandos Dreamland Social Club is a magical novel about one vagabond family finding a home. Still pained by the loss of her mother years earlier, Jane has been all over the world with her brother and father. Once they plant stakes in New Yorks Coney Island, Jane begins to feel settled. And the mermaids, dwarves, bearded girls, contortionists, and tattooed boys certainly keep things interesting.
    Critic Reviews:
Palpable without being melodramatic a languid, introspective novel about a search for identity and meaning. (Publishers Weekly

    Kooky and Quirky BUT AWESOME!
I was slightly hesitant when going into Dreamland Social Club; Having just finished up two amazing contemporaries, I knew that Dreamland Social Club was going to have to be spectacular for me to like it, and it was just that spectacular.
Dreamland Social Club is weird and quirky and kooky, and I loved it. The main character, Jane, is trying to figure out who she is, who her mother was, and how this strange closed-off place (Coney Island) fits into the mix. It was so much fun watching Jane find herself through memories of her mother and also through old relationships and friendships of families from Coney Island. The setting of Coney Island is, I think, what makes this book so quirky. Its not just New York City, but a specific place a place that conjures up notions long before the reader starts reading and it was fun to take my preconceived thoughts and see how they were worked into the novel.
Watching Jane grow into herself and accept herself was by far the most enjoyable part of the novel. And the minor characters who helped Jane along the way were just as kooky as Coney Island. This novel is full of characters that you wont soon forget. Fans of Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King will enjoy for sure.
