This funny fractured fairytale goes behind the scenes of Rumpelstiltskin. "A most magical feat," writes Newbery Honor-winner Kirby Larson, "Liesl Shurtliff spins words into gold."
In a magical kingdom where your name is your destiny, 12-year-old Rump is the butt of everyone's joke. But when he finds an old spinning wheel, his luck seems to change. Rump discovers he has a gift for spinning straw into gold. His best friend, Red Riding Hood, warns him that magic is dangerous, and she's right.
With each thread he spins, he weaves himself deeper into a curse. To break the spell, Rump must go on a perilous quest, fighting off pixies, trolls, poison apples, and a wickedly foolish queen. The odds are against him, but with courage and friendship - and a cheeky sense of humor - he just might triumph in the end.
"Lighthearted and inventive,Rump amusingly expands a classic tale." (Brandon Mull, #1 New York Timesbestselling author of Fablehaven.)
Perfect for fans of Ella Enchanted or A Tale Dark and Grimm.

My 10 year old like the book and I did not.
This is a 2014/2015 Sunshine State Reader which I downloaded to listen to with my daughter. I have listened to almost a 100 audio books with my daughter and we almost never disagree on a book, but this one we did. She really enjoyed it and I did not. If it weren't for the fact that she was enjoying it I would have never finished listening to it. It was slow and tedious for me.
I thought that the characters made stupid decision after stupid decision and they were idiotic (with the exception of the trolls). I found the lack of any real communication between characters frustrating and unrealistic. I felt that crucial information wasn't disseminated between characters in an attempt to move the plot in the direction the author wanted to go, not because real characters would actually behave that way.
My main problems with the story are:
    1. The grandmother withheld critical information from her grandson that would be crucial for his survival.
    2. His friend knew more about his past then he did and never shared this information with him until it was too late. She preferred to chastise him then to give him information that may be helpful.
    3. The miller's daughter was unusually dumb and dim witted. I don't appreciate stories with characters that are so dumb that they are unbelievable.
    4. Almost all the characters in the book are unlikable. Even Rump I had a hard time getting behind when he kept making stupid decisions.
With all that being said, the things that my daughter enjoyed about the book:
    1. She really liked Rump and Red,
    2. She liked that he found his name in the end,
    3. She liked the trolls, and
    4. She liked the re-telling and different perspective of an old story.
    amazing all the way
I suggest this book. I though it was an amazing book and it was like a rollercoaster.
    Great story.
We listened to the read aloud on the drive to school each morning. The kids loved it... Can't wait for Jack.
Best Sequoyah book we have read so far!
We loved the reading of this book. Such a fun adventure. My son and I stayed up late, so that we could find out what would happen next. It's hard to put this book down.

It was awesome and a sweet loving story that is sad but wonderful please read this amazing bookthank you

In Mary Poppins Opens the Door, Mary Poppins reappears just in time! According to her tape measure, Jane and Michael have grown "Worse and Worse" since she went away. But the children won't have time to be naughty with all that Mary has planned for them. A visit to Mr. Twigley's music box filled attic, an encounter with the Marble Boy, and a ride on Miss Calico's enchanted candy canes are all part of an average day out with everyone's favorite nanny.
    Members Reviews:
    Great series
A good book series for a lover of audio books and great speakers for a amazing book series.
    Another fun Series of stories
We love Mary Poppins stories, but not Mary Poppins. She seems a little without heart. Delightful fun stories, though and the children learn so much and expand their imaginations.
Mary Poppins returns with more stories
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If they liked the first two, sure. In and of itself, probably not.
Would you be willing to try another book from P. L. Travers? Why or why not?
I will listen to the remaining Mary Poppins stories just to say I did. But the character is so passive aggressive that it makes her somewhat unlike-able.
What about Rosalyn Landors performance did you like?
A commendable performance with clear delineation between characters.
Do you think Mary Poppins Opens the Door needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Honestly, it is written to give the impression that it was the finale of a trilogy. There is closure. Although I do know that more were later published.
    Any additional comments?
If you like kindly, but insufferably superior nannies, then this is for you. Perhaps it is more of a British thing, perhaps it is just "of it's time". The fables that are incorporated in to the story are fine and quite sweet. It's just Mary that I find somewhat difficult to take in any large quantity.

    Members Reviews:
love both the movies and the books.
David Tennant is a awesome reader. I could listen to him read the ingredients of tortilla chips and love it but the books make it even better. I love how he does Toothless voice. It makes him a real character like Andy Serkis does with Gollum/Smeagol. The books are addicting and I'm now obsessed with hearing them all and know I will be sad when I've done so. I highly recommend all the ones I have already purchased and likely will recommend all that I will be purchasing.
    great story and performance
Hiccup continues to grow. His friends have his back as always. The bad guys are multiple and vindictive, but our heroes persevere, sometimes it is quite unbelievable, but within this story's style. The humor is still enjoyable, and there it's even a poignant and not very preachy lesson.
The performance is brilliant, of course.
    loved it
loved it! can't wait to hear the next one. when is book 12 coming out?? not sure I want to hear the very end of the series tho.
    Love it!
I love this series! I love the reader's voices and enthusiasm. I love the music. I love this book.
    Fun with an awesome narrator.
Everybody says this series is perfect for boys between 8-12 years old. But I'm here to tell you that adult woman can like them too. I did start this series with my 10 year old but quickly grew tired of waiting for him and continued on listening to them by myself. I will be happy to go back and listen to them again, they were that much fun. I just love Stoak and Fishlegs they are always good for a laugh. I love the narrator, he makes these book that much more awesome.

Great series! We loved it, my four-year-old thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fun to listen to on the way to and from school and on the way home from the cabin!
Great Little Stories That Kids Will Enjoy
Would you consider the audio edition of Rebekah - Girl Detective Books 1-8: Fun Short Story Mysteries to be better than the print version?
My daughter (aged 8) found the audio version of this series of short mysteries to be thoroughly enjoyable to listen to, especially before heading off to bed once she's done her homework, or while we're traveling in the car. It's simply a great alternative to the printed version, and she tells me that listening to it for her helps to bring the characters to life more.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rebekah - Girl Detective Books 1-8: Fun Short Story Mysteries?
I'd have to ask her, because she seems to like them all. But, as far as I'm aware her favorite stories are the one about the Aliens, the Ghost & the Missing Gems.
    Which scene was your favorite?
I know she quite liked the scene in the story about aliens when there was a bright glowing light in Rebekah's school.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's easily one that my daughter could have listened to all day if I allowed her to :)She just loves Rebekah and her side kick mouse, and is always eager to discover where her next great adventure will lead her.
    Any additional comments?
I thought this was a well put together audio series for young children (girls and boys alike) that will keep them entertained for hours. Seems like they're highly addictive once kids begin listening to them, and the story is well thought out, which kids are sure to enjoy.

Yes - I was shocked to discover the group was betrayed

This was a very awesome story because it takes you away to almost a fantasy world in the past, in the egyption days.
    Ensures I'll finish the series
Would you listen to Lost in Babylon again? Why?
Yes, though I know to cringe anytime "Nirvana" speaks. That is the only exception to an otherwise good reader.

The battle between Marco and the Mishy Shoo Shoo is quite an experience.
What about Johnathan McClains performance did you like?
The reader is consistent. Characters do not change throughout the reading.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The audience can figure out the ends big secret long before the characters do. The moment I realized what was coming was a big moment.

    It is real
This is real! Immigration for what ever need or want still mirrors hardship! The triumph is strong! As a mother of two boys I could never imagine the pain of making such a decision. As a social worker I respect the perils of all individuals who come to this country to make it great!

I liked the characters' voice and themselves. I disliked the girls' voice.

    The Action Continues
So this book nicely follows Book 1 and if you liked it, you will probably like this too. The plot is more complex, a little more violent magic... but a lot more courage, teamwork and character shown by the group of friends. This time the evil magician is Belinda White's "wants to rule the world" brother... who also uses groups of children from the arcade... given gifts of magic enhancers to accomplish tasks he can't do himself. What kid doesn't want to fly? Parents concerns are this time reduced by Cheese Nachos rather than White Chocolate. I liked the narration better and although I still wasn't as an adult fully engaged... I think the tween population will really enjoy. I like Brandon Mulls creative mind.
    Awesome
I love Brandon mulls books there so good I could read them over and over again there so good

    GOOD ENDING
This last book of the Vespers vs Cahills was a surprise to me. New it had to end, but the ending, sort of floored me. Very good though The whole series was good.
Not as bad as I thought
    Any additional comments?
After reading other reviews I almost didn't get this book. To make the collection complete, I did. This isn't as bad as some of the reviews make it out. Baldacci doesn't kill off everybody. Dan is back to being Dan and I liked that. It is a good finish and the right prevails which is what is supposed to happen. It is worth the read.
    The other bad reviews stink!
Where does Cahills vs. Vespers, Book 6: Day of Doom rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Over all the books I've ever listened to, this book is on average.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I totally love Amy, she is so much like my self.
Which character as performed by David Pittu was your favorite?
    Didn't have a favorite
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    n/a
    Any additional comments?
So I was always going to read this book, I loved the whole series, but I read the reviews that said this book stinks. But I loved it! yes, it ended too quickly, but on the whole this was a totally great book. I was well pleased with the reading and with the story.
    too much swearing
all the other authors did a good job in the series. this author used swearing which is totally unnecessary in a children's book and his writing wasn't any better than the other authors.
    Please let it end
Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I think this series needs to end already. 39 clues, great, this one, decent, but they should have left it at that. I tried to start the first book in the next series, but can't. This book raps everything up so nicely, leaving some to the imagination of the reader which I always like. But oh well. Naturally this whole series has issues because of the multiple authors, but overall this one wasn't bad. It was certainly the best of the six.

My 8 year old listened to this book - it seemed to be riveting for her. She didn't want to put it down and listened to it constantly, through dinner, on our walk, riding in the car, and even lying in bed before lights out. Only books like The Secret Garden, A Wind in the Door, and Anne of Green Gables have elicited a similar listening intensity for her. My daughter is eagerly awaiting the next children's book from M.M. Kaye. Narration is vital for children's audiobook versions and from listening to this preview I immediately appreciated Simone Tetrault's lyrical voice and pleasant reading pace.
    Beautiful
I love this story. It is a beautiful telling of what would happen if a princess was an ordinary girl. I liked listening to the story but the hard copy version has illustrations that really make the book.
I've always loved this book and what a sweet audio version of the story
I stumbled upon this book at a local library when I was young. I was enchanted by the beautiful illustrations and the story. It is just a sweet and simple fairy tale but it captures my imagination now as it did then. I am so happy to see an audio version of it. The reader is perfect.
    Sweet, but lacks substance
    Any additional comments?
I like books that adults and children can share. This was not one of them. There is not a lot of depth. It's a simple story. Good for little girls and for building self-esteem.
    Great story, ok narrator
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I loved this story as a child, and enjoyed it again this time.
    Any additional comments?
