Listening to the book and you'll scream NO....
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend the book as the book is well written and tends to have you guessing as to what will happen next
What was one of the most memorable moments of A King's Ransom?
When Eramus finally showed emotion at the lost of friend Mr. Mcintier
Which character as performed by David Pittu was your favorite?
Dan has become my favorite, he is now torn between doing what is right and what needs to be done. With the formula of the serum in his head he slowly collects the parts needed to reform the serum. But he is also struggling how to let the family know it needs to used.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    The loss of William Mcintier
    Any additional comments?
When the story ended I actually yelled out "NO" because it ended in a cliff hanger that the others books did not give. This is the first of the series to do that and I LOVE IT!!!! I am ready for the next book in the series.
    card code?
Would you consider the audio edition of A King's Ransom to be better than the print version?
no because i thought this would come with the card code and it didnt so i am disappointed about it
    Not just for young adults!
I began listening to this series when my friends little boy asked me to follow along with him. This last installment did not disappoint although familiarity may breed a bit of contempt as we expect every book to be as good or better than the last. This comes close. You definitely need to follow this series in order. All in all, a good but quick listen.
    Great book
Would you listen to A King's Ransom again? Why?
Yes, second time is even better then first
What does David Pittu bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
David Pittu is the best, he bring this book to next level, without him the book will not be the same
    Any additional comments?
    Great series
    very good
Would you listen to A King's Ransom again? Why?
It's a really short book but very good keeps the plot from the other books going and keeps you into the hunt.
What other book might you compare A King's Ransom to and why?
any of the other 39 clues books.
Which character as performed by David Pittu was your favorite?
David is what keeps me coming back for another volume in the series. always like the cobbras.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
i always laugh but for a older, listener i think some of the jokes are for the older crowd or parents

    An Excellent Work
A tale of adventure, friendship, battles, and food. Told by a full cast of actors complete with occasional singing. Listeners beware, numerous descriptions of food may make one hungry.
    good story
the story fit well with the others of the redwall collection.
the cast brought the book and character to life.
while hints were left to the links to previous books, no direct mention it made about reunions or special weapons... the books were not written in a specific order, so it is understandable.
as opposed to "outcast of redwall", a character in this book findshis way to become a good rat, despite his up-bringing. he sees the right way to live and follows it in the face of certain death. i would highly recommend this book for teen and adults, but children my not understand the trials of stream-battle and mutta.
    Sequel to Mariel
This was an extremely captivating story. I found myself just as caught up as I had been when I first read Mariel of Redwall. It had some extremely sad moments, some tense fight scenes, and new twists that always seem to draw me back to Brian Jacques. I love that he narrates most of his books personally, and the fact that he has a full cast to fill the roles is absolutely my favourite experience.
    Great book
Great story even better the 2nd or 3rd I've read it full of adventure great characters great battles really good
    sound is awful
I love the Redwall books but I could understand 90% of what Brian was reading. Waste of a credit for me...

    Lemonade Crime
This is a good book to snuggle up with at Grandma's house. We liked listening about the court process. It had a good ending and we're listening to the next book called The Bell Bandit.
    Not quite like kids
If you could sum up Lemonade Crime in three words, what would they be?
This is book two in a series. You really need book one before reading this title. This book needs book one to lay out the whole story. I hope this is now clear.
The kids don't act like kids. Evan and Jessie are siblings. They act like siblings most of the time. Jessie is brilliant. She has moved ahead one grade. She knows too much to be so young, even as a genius. Evan and Jessie are likable and this story covers the theft of money that was earned in book one. Jessie brilliantly decides to charge the suspected boy with the crime. A court is set up to hear the case and the story unfolds. In reality chaos would have ensued with name calling and battles that would drag the adults into the story. It is odd that no adult figures out there is a problem.
The ending is abrupt and doesn't match how kids really work and think. It is a teaching story and best to be read to/with kids so a discussion can follow.
I'm not in love with this story. I probably will never listen again. I don't think the book is terrible, it just isn't realistic. It is about people and attempts to be about reality, but it misses the mark. Better books that describe how kids/teens think would include the Clementine series or the Bras and Broomsticks series.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Lemonade Crime?
    Amazing
    This book was awsome
This book was a great story. I listened to it for homework and got loved it soooo much.
    Wonderful!!!!!
I loved how they open up the beginning of this story! The story shows the bitter sweet relationship of the kids. I also love how each character has a part! Great book overall!!!!
    Meh
The story was in the middle, nothing exciting, but it makes it very easy to sleep. Narrating was much better than the actual story.

More appealing to kids than adults
When my sons and I listen to audiobooks, I usually enjoy them as much as the kids. This wasn't one of those times. That said, my 11 year old son finished the book in just a few sittings, on an airplane. He said this wasn't his favorite and wasn't interested in listening to the sequels, but clearly it held his interest while he was listening. His biggest complaint was that the focus of the story was on dating and relationships, and he assumed from the title it would be mostly tied in to Star Wars.
This is a popular series so I assume our experience is an anomaly, but wanted to share our thoughts in case you have a kid who doesn't like relationship drama, or like me want to find books you both enjoy.
    my boy's loved it
Great read for a family road trip. My 12 year old boys loved it. Good story, funny, and good morals.
    Interesting... kids liked it
This is a good book for elementary and middle schoolers. It presents an inventive way to tackle subjects and concerns for that age group. Listening to the story, I don't think kids would understand right off that they are being given advice on how to handle that stage of life, and all of the ordinary but uncomfortable things they face.
    6th Graders Love This!
After listening to this story I decided to have my reluctant readers read it together. They love it! After each chapter the students write done the main idea of the chapter, and make a comment. Their comments are on the advice that was given by Origami Yoda. Sometimes they come up with alternative solutions. They can relate to the story because they are in 6th grade just like the characters in the book. We are even doing origami together. Eventually we will try to create Origami Yoda. They are very interested in reading Darth Paper next.
    Awsome book
This book is amazingly funny and interesting I originally thought it would be horrible it rocks take this info from a 4th grader

    Amazing!
My daughter enjoyed this book so much! I would surly recommend it! This book also gives the reader a lot of history on America. It's amazing how interesting they can make it!
Listening to it again and again
Our daughter has been entranced by Kaya and the exceptionally well read stories about her and her people since she started listening to it. We have now heard through it no less than five times. We are happy to have a balance to the white settler stories like Little House on the Prarie (also a great book, but concerning in its critique of native people) for our daughters. I have been nearly equally as intrigued... I think the much begged for trip to Idaho to visit the Nez Perce people may actually happen....
    Great book
This is a really good book I strongly recommend this book to any one of any age
    Great Family read!
My daughter and I loved it! A fun yet educational story. We felt like we were going back in time experiencing all the adventures with Kaya. Were even talking about planing a small trip to Idaho.
This was such a great story!
I loved the way you made the fire so real! Thanks for making such a great story to share!
You made it very hard to think what was going to happen next. Thanks!

    NOT Complete at all!
What would have made Our Island Story (Complete) better?
This only has 34 of 110 chapters. When it says complete, I expect complete.
Good but it is for kids
I read this maybe when I was about 11 or 12 and when I saw it got it for nostalgic reasons. It does give a brief history of Britain and the narration is fine but it is for children. As an adult you'll find it to be too brief and also it's summary of someone being a "bad" man somewhat childish. If you want a more adult British history book then go for Dave Starkey's Crown and Country.
    Great for kids though :-)
    History in a nutshell
What made the experience of listening to Our Island Story (Complete) the most enjoyable?
I wanted to learn more about our heritage, and this gives a great start without all the intricate (and sometimes boring) bits.
What other book might you compare Our Island Story (Complete) to, and why?
Grown up history books can be so complicated, this is a great timeline of British History in a very manageable style.
What about Daniel Philpott and Anna Bentinck s performance did you like?
Although this is a childrens book the narration is great to listen to even as an adult
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
    How great is our nation
    Any additional comments?
I love the bit in the introduction that says 'when you find out how much has been left untold in this little book, do not be cross, but remember that, when you very small, you would not have been able to ubderstand things that seem quite simple and very interesting to you as you grow older.'
    Interesting and excellent value
Would you listen to Our Island Story (Complete) again? Why?
Yes! We have listened to it lots of times. It's a great story but also super educational. My children really enjoy it, and so do I.
What other book might you compare Our Island Story (Complete) to, and why?
The Story of the World is a similar look at history but throughout the world, rather than just Britain.
    Inaccurate and infantile
If you have any sense or knowledge of history please don't download this. It is badly written and inaccurate on many points. We managed to bear the first chapter before giving up and moving on to David Starkey's Monarchy which both children and adults enjoyed much more

    Language: English
    Release date: 05-11-10
    Publisher: Listening Library
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 100 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Inspired by family stories, two-time Newbery Honor winner and New York Times best-selling author Jennifer L. Holm beautifully blends family lore with America's past in this charming gem of a novel, rich in historical detail, humor, and the unique flavors of Key West.
Life isn't like the movies, and 11-year-old Turtle is no Shirley Temple. She's smart and tough and has seen enough of the world not to expect a Hollywood ending. After all, it's 1935, and jobs and money and sometimes even dreams are scarce. So when Turtle's mama gets a job housekeeping for a lady who doesn't like kids, Turtle says goodbye without a tear and heads off to Key West, Florida, to stay with relatives she's never met.
Florida's like nothing Turtle has ever seen. It's hot and strange, full of wild green peeping out between houses, ragtag boy cousins, and secret treasure. Before she knows what's happened, Turtle finds herself coming out of the shell she has spent her life building, and as she does, her world opens up in the most unexpected ways.
    Critic Reviews:
"Turtle is just the right mixture of knowingness and hope; the plot is a hilarious blend of family dramas seasoned with a dollop of adventure." (

    "Sweet, funny and superb." (
    Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
    Delightful, funny, and touching.
Our entire family enjoyed this book while on a long car trip. The author has created wonderful characters who live in a vividly depicted run-down area of Key West in the early 20th century. Turtle is a believable girl, who is a complicated mix of brave and vulnerable. She makes the most of unfortunate circumstances while befriending a crew of cousins she's never met. The book is even more delightful because it is based on the author's grandmother's memories of growing up in Key West when it was a remote outpost instead of a tourist destination (Ernest Hemmingway has a cameo).
    Very good book
What made the experience of listening to Turtle in Paradise the most enjoyable?
I read this with my 10 year old daughter for a mother/daughter book club. We both very much enjoyed it.
    Older story
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The relationships within the family. I liked that her name was "Turtle". And the history detailed when completed.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Becca Battoe?
I purchased this book because Becca Battoe was the narrator. Loved her in the Fifty Shades Trilogy.
    Turtle Indeed
I'm 36yo & this story with the narrative cracked me up..its for younger kids but adults will appreciate the dry witty sense of humor..this audio may also cause you some lack of sleep..for its too good not to hear all of it. Many times during the night I had to be careful my laughter didn't wake my husband. Great story. No bad language or content in this story that my own child couldn't hear. I appreciate that very much. Turtle has climbed to the top of my "listen to very often" stack of audios. I'll let you decide where it climbs in your pile ;)

Even when the neighborhood children taunt him, and when his harsh, authoritarian father ridicules him, and when he doubts himself, Neftalí knows he cannot ignore the call. When Disney Imagineers installed hologram guides for the Magic Kingdom using teenage models, they had no idea the technology might backfire. But backfire it did: some nights when the kids go to sleep, they wake up in one of the Disney parks as holograms.
The five teens have twice thwarted evil plots masterminded by Maleficent; but now Finn, Philby, Willa, Charlene, and Maybeck have another problem: Wayne, their mentor and head Imagineer, has mysteriously gone missing. Concerned that Wayne has been abducted by the Overtakers, the kids pick up a major clue from a close friend, Jess, whose dreams (nightmares, really) often accurately predict the future.
This time, the clues from Jesss dream lead the kids into Disneys Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Each clue seems tied to the last, and with the stakes growing ever higher, what starts out as a puzzle ends up as a fight for their lives. As they quest for a sword, take rides on Soarin and Maelstrom, have life-and-death encounters with a giant snake, and attempt to stop Maleficent, the Kingdom Keepers not only begin to decipher deeper meanings in the clues, but discover new truths about themselves and their ever-growing friendships.

    Disney in Shadow
Love the book - I really enjoyed the first two as well. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because of the narration. It was good for most of the story, but I didn't care for how he voiced the girls. A little too "valley girl" for me. Overall, if you enjoyed the first two books, you will like this one too.

very old but not too old to enjoy this series

Huge fan of the kingdom keepers
