    Author: Gary Duvalle
    Narrator: Claton Butcher
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 48 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-05-13
    Publisher: AJK Lohman Publishers
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 33 votes
Genres: Business, Personal Finance & Investing
    Publisher's Summary:
Just as there are thousands of stock trades that happen each day, there are thousands of reasons to start trading. There are many people that trade because they are looking for financial gain. However, there are also some people that just enjoy the whole process and want to participate in the market economy. There is also a great deal to be learned from trading stocks as you have the opportunity to really see how the government handles commodity regulation. Trading stocks is also a great way to learn how successful companies develop and grow.
Today, there are two ways that stocks can be traded. They can either be traded electronically or using the traditional floor exchange. Naturally, today's technology has prompted a push towards electronic trading. Surprisingly however, floor trading still remains as the most popular way to trade stocks. These two methods follow the same principles, but the process in which they are executed differs.

    Great book n a nutshell
I love the book. Very basic understanding of how the stock market works. This is not even a biginner book. It's more like a summary. Listen to it more than once weather you're a newbie or just want to brush up on your basics.
Very, very, basic information. I was disappointed.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There should have been at least a few concepts that were not common-sense. I know very little about the stock market, and yet practically everything presented here I knew already. I was very disappointed.
Has Learn the Stock Market turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I am sure there are more comprehensive books out there written by someone who actually wishes to impart knowledge on the subject.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Claton Butcher?
I felt his narration was a bit strange. Like he was speaking to children. At times it sounded similar to a text to speech application.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Learn the Stock Market?
I would have not written this at all. Unless you are marketing it to tweens or perhaps teenagers who had never even heard of the stock market before.

    Good information
There's good information in this book. Some information is lost without the supporting visuals.
not a book, a recorded seminar
It's not an audio book. It's a recorded seminar in which the speaker is showing visuals and graphs. Not easy to follow when you can't see what he's speaking of.
Excellent for option traders who has experience and wants to improve their game
Well recognized option trader shares his no-BS wisdom with clear respect to listeners time. Excellent, useful, hard-earned gems for practicing traders.
    Ok for a short listen
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Hmmm, not sure. He noted a problem with almost every option trade, but didn't really note what would be best.. It was an ok listen.
Would be a great listen if accompanied by slides!
What made the experience of listening to Avoiding Option Trading Traps the most enjoyable?
Very good coverage of option trading pitfalls by an expert on the subject.
    Any additional comments?
Larry is obviously speaking on slides/charts. A PDF of these slides to accompany the audio file would make this perfect.

    Publisher's Summary:
A comprehensive guide to giving well to family members
Giving is at the core of family life - and with current law allowing up to $5,120,000 in tax-free gifts, at least through December 2012, the ultra-affluent are faced with the task of giving at perhaps largest scale in history. Beyond the tax saving and wealth management implications, giving to family members opens up a slew of thorny questions, the biggest of which is, "How do I prepare recipients of such large gifts?" With that question and others in mind, Hughes, Massenzio, and Whitaker have written The Cycle of the Gift in three main parts: "The Who of Giving", "The How of Giving", and "The What and Why of Giving." The first part focuses on the people most deeply involved in family giving, especially the recipients and givers (parents, grandparents, spouses, trustees). The second part, "The How of Giving," addresses the delicate balance of givers who want to maintain some level of control and recipients who want some level of freedom in accepting and growing their gifts. The final part, "The What and Why of Giving" describes various types of gifts, from money to business interests to values and rituals. The authors also introduce their "family bank" concept as a model that combines loans, trusts, and outright gifts. It embodies a framework and set of practices for long-term family growth. Even families without great wealth - or those who have already made large gifts to their children and grandchildren - can benefit from the human wisdom and practical advice found in The Cycle of the Gift.

I appreciated the break down and organization in this book. Just when I wondered "but what about" the book answered then question. The examples were excellent as they showed shortcomings and strengths.

Genres: Business, Personal Finance & Investing
    Publisher's Summary:
I wrote Get Out of Debt Fast: Reduce Debt Quickly with the Money You Currently Make because I know it can sometimes be very overwhelming when there is not enough money left over at the end of the month. Bill collectors calling, credit card companies hounding you, and stress start to overwhelm you. I, too, was once in a very similar situation. I'm here to tell you I'm not anymore and the stress those bills and debts were causing me and my family are gone.
I wrote this easy-to-follow guide called How to Get Out of Debt Fast: Reduce Debt Quickly with the Money You Currently Make to help you reduce your debts very quickly and provide you with the stress-free lifestyle I'm now living. The methods I used to get out of debt are documented in this easy-to-follow guide. I've left nothing out of this book and it truly can help you get out of debt very quickly, so you can have peace of mind at the end of the day. There is nothing worse than trying to make ends meet and having no current plan that will actually work to get you out of debt fast.
The methods I used are simple. I used the compounding effect the banks, credit card, and mortgage companies are using to keep you in debt against them. The methods I used had to be simple in order for me to stick with the program. I quickly paid off two credit cards within a matter of six months using just the money our family made. I couldn't stand thinking of following some budget, moving numbers here and there, trying to save money and allocate it to all the different categories. Let's face it, a real budget is difficult to follow and stay motivated to follow. There is none of that in How to Get Out of Debt Quickly. Just a very simple, easy to implement and follow plan.
So, if you are serious about getting out of debt, need some much needed stress reduction, want to have enough money to actually retire someday and live the quality of life you've dreamed about, you need to take action right now and click the "Buy" button now. Let's get started today on relieving you from the burdens of debt once and for all.

Excellent Common Sense Debt Reduction/Wealth Building System
I'd be willing to state that there are not many of us who have avoided debt in our lives...therefore I think this book could be of benefit to almost anyone. The staggering credit card statistics in the book are testimony to that. I've heard of a number of the things that the author suggests, sure some of them are common sense and I've done them myself.
However, my light bulb moment in this book was realizing that knowing the theory and having a solid, proven, step by step system are two very different things and the key is in that system that the author provides. It is laid out well with spreadsheet images that are perfect for a visual person like myself to grasp.
The other 'enlightening' element was the fact that the same system when followed after eliminating debt can in fact create wealth! Yes, without earning any more money. It's a shame that we can't think of these things ourselves...we aren't taught these skills when we're young!
Thankfully the author has done the 'leg work' and has been good enough to share his system.

    Members Reviews:
    A very good read!
J.D Joyceâs book The Story of Rich does a good job explaining the importance of financial planning in all stages of personâs life by developing several characters young and old, financially wealthy and poor. Author displays importance of creating a good financial plan that can deliver most optimal results one wishes in their life. It is an easy read but more importantly it looks at the world of investments from top-down approach (bigger picture) than bottom-up approach found in many investment/wealth management books and for this reason, I would highly recommend this book to all investors especially those who are new to the world of investments.
My recommendation would be to scan and isolate characters with which your personality fits closely and then analyze and see how you can achieve financial freedom in a manner in which characters achieve theirs. Also, pay close attention to News vs. Noise, Mechanics of Investing and Cash Flow ladder, and Estate planning aspects of the book because some of the ideas mentioned in this little gem are missing in many other investment books.
The fictional character is you (and me)!
I don't know how he did it, but by having an amalgamation of investors J.D. created a character named Richard "Rich" Viva that is you and me. No, my net worth is about one tenth that of Rich, but everything else is just like me, even some of his friends. By using a unique fiction like this, J.D. spells out many financial principles that apply to everyone. He covers investment advice, financial planning, even estate planning at the end of the book. But he does it by telling the story of a guy named Rich. Rich even likes to fly fish, good wine, and has a son who does not appreciate capitalism like his dad (my story to a T). But the story line is fun to follow and all of us relate to it. One of Rich's friends listens to too much "noise" of financial news and freaks out...I've done that. This is a must read, even if you don't have millions. Only J.D.

This is a recording of a seminar
What disappointed you about 'The Predictive Power of Options' with Larry McMillan?
Not very useful when the entire presentation is referencing a slide show he is presenting that we do not have.
What could Larry McMillan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
    Provide the slideshow presentation
Would you be willing to try another one of Larry McMillans performances?
Not if they are similar to this. Anyone can record a presentation and put it up for sale.
Recording of a sales pitch made 10 years ago
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No one. I have been a member of Audible for almost a decade. This is the only book I have ever given 1 star.
What could Larry McMillan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Put some time into actually providing some information to the reader and the book. This "book" is just a sales pitch to subscribe to his newsletter.
How could the performance have been better?
The book sound quality sounds like somone smuggled a tape recorder into one of Larry McMillan's seminars and then published the recording.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger / Disappointment. Insider trading is presented like it is ok since everyone does it. Much of the information in this book is 15 years old and not relevant today. The reader is also told the only way they can get the relevant information is to subscribe to Larry's newsletter.
    Any additional comments?
I would like my money back.
    Good presentation to group.
But discusses graphs that aren't available. That didn't bother me a bit, but I read people's complains. Good useful information, I'll listen to it again.
    Excellent way to explaining options
What did you love best about 'The Predictive Power of Options' with Larry McMillan?
The Author Larry McMillan does an excellent job of breaking down some the more complex concepts and strateties of options and makes it easier for the average person to get a excited and understand how options work.
    Excellent information and trading
This is a great audio seminar for those with a little bit of options knowledge. He's great at explaining a couple of ways of managing risk and how to approach buying options on your own. He does offer a service but it doesn't come off as him trying to sell the service in the seminar. I felt he did a great job of explaining another style of options trading.

    Publisher's Summary:
A new breed of investing that combines making more money and making a difference.
First there were the "Profiteers," investors who sought to make money regardless of the cost to society. Then came the "Do-Gooders," investors who avoided "bad" companies and supported "good" ones, based on philosophy over financials. Now this book introduces a brand new breed of investor: The HIP Investor. Written for those who want to profit handsomely while also building a better world, it will help you discover companies that are boosting the bottom line by solving key human needs through innovative products and services-benefiting customers, engaging employees, and delivering sustainable, profitable growth for their investors. That's the Human Impact + Profit, or HIP, approach. In The HIP Investor, R. Paul Herman-creator of the HIP methodology-introduces a revolutionary system that allows investors to profit and make a positive impact. It values measurable results over policies and philosophies, and shows how higher-performing companies can deliver both human impact and profit for shareholders. This book:
You can make money while making a difference, and The HIP Investor is here to show you how.
    Members Reviews:
A futuristic approach to weighing sustainability as an investment risk
At first it read like a self-promoting book, but after second thoughts, I realized that the approach he was suggesting happened to have the same name as the author's company. That leads to some confusion about whether he's referring to his company's products or the approach he's recommending. That being said, it's truly a futuristic view of how investments should be considered from a holistic perspective. Sustainability has always been a risk; we've never explicitly identified it before, and a huge part of sustainability is how a company's products affect their source. As long as we have humans be a part of business, how that business affects the environment in which we live is a key factor of its sustainability risk.
    An innovative approach to investing
The HIP Investor presents an innovative and interesting approach to investing by focusing on 5 main "human needs" and evaluating investing opportunities based on their scorecard in those categories. Herman presents a compelling argument regarding the need for investors to step up their game and really think about what they can do individually - from investing in socially responsible companies or funds to making energy efficient improvements in their homes - to positively impact the future of our world. Herman's informative discussions on current companies (though slightly dated now since this book was published in 2010) and their "HIP" scores opens your eyes to the shift from just pure profit-making to making a better product in a greener manner. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to increase their awareness of socially responsible investing.
Practical Way to Merge my Values
    R. Paul Herman has written a highly practical book. It is also educational. He has developed a system for scoring the combined profitability and responsibility of a company. This is useful for investors who want to make decisions with conscience and also desire to grow their own security and wealth.

    Publisher's Summary:
The Ages of the Investor: A Critical Look at Lifecycle Investing is intended to be the first installment in the Investing for Adults series.
Just as grownups do not believe in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus, "Investing adults" know that there is no such creature as the Stock-picking Fairy or the Market-timing Fairy. Further, there is no Risk Fairy who will write you cheap options that will protect your stock holdings against loss. Investing adults are familiar with Gene Fama, Zvi Bodie, Jack Bogle, and Burton Malkiel, and understand that a mean variance optimizer does not blend vegetables.
In other words, this series is not for beginners.
Future topics will, with luck, include the limits of market efficiency and diversification in increasingly nonsegmented global markets.

Absolutely terrificl! Wish I'd heard it sooner
If you could sum up Investing 101, 2nd, Updated and Expanded Edition in three words, what would they be?
    Interesting. Understandable. Inspiring.bonus word: Reassuring
What was one of the most memorable moments of Investing 101, 2nd, Updated and Expanded Edition?
The difference between how men and women save and why so many women end up living in poverty in their old age.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I don't know why you would want to! But you will get more out of it if you track your spending for a month as she suggests so you can figure out a real vs a theoretical budget. She also provides worksheets to fill out ie: to calculate your comfort level with investment risk vs. the investment risk you should/shouldn't take because of your age.
    Any additional comments?
I spent hours deciding which audiobook to get because I've never managed to read through any of the print books I have purchased. I find this book interesting and inspiring. If you are intimidated by the idea of learning how to manage and invest your money..start with this book.
The narrator's voice was a bit too raspy/smoky for my taste at the beginning but it grew on me after a while :)
Would you like someone to read you an Excel file?
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There are many points in this audiobook where charts are read, in audio format, for long stretches (>30 seconds) at a time. Picture hearing "4 years .06, 5 years, .04" and onward. I fast forwarded many times, but eventually gave up.
The content of the book is completely undermined by not including reference PDFs strategically. If you prefer your charts in audio format, this audiobook is for you. Otherwise, stay clear.
    Boring and Biased
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Good information but obvious bias towards women. Who, according to the author are much more sound investors. Yeah...
