    Publisher's Summary:
Endearing Jack Russell dog-detective and his first intriguing, funny whodunit mystery. Book one of a hilarious series.
    Editorial Reviews:
New to Doggeroo, Jack Russell is terrier-itorial and counting on the police detective he lives with to help him stop what he believes is the set-up for a series of dognappings. Instead, as performed with an eagerness and cheer perfectly fitting the hero, it is the oversized, bumbling, stammering setter "Red", who helps him get to the bottom of who stole his blanket and squeak-toy in this engaging chapter book for young listeners, the first in a series featuring the dog detective who cant help but charm through his "Jacks facts" and "nose maps".
    Critic Reviews:

    Title: The Vacation

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 42 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-16-05
    Publisher: Listening Library
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 18 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Mag, convalescing from an illness that makes her look like death, is downright crabby. Pigg, tense from driving, is becoming more assertive and less willing to submit to Mag's whims. And while they poke each other, literally, Henry is finding it hard to keep his resolution.
They go to Virginia Beach (it's too hot); try camping in the Everglades (Henry accidentally spends four days floating in a swamp); visit their daddy, Henry's granddaddy (Henry's never met him!); and lose Pigg to love in Oklahoma (what would the radio psychologist Daly Kramer say?) before they finally receive word that Henry's parents are coming back and will meet them in Tulsa to finish the trip with Mag and Henry. But his parents are bickering and Henry is in despair, until he surrenders to the road and decides to let whatever happens happen, but to be there in it all.
Complete with her signature cast of eccentric characters, absurd situations, and heartfelt moments, Polly Horvath writes an on-the-road epic like no other!
    Critic Reviews:
"At once poignant, funny, and wise, this book gives new meaning to the phrase, 'The best journeys never end'." (Publishers Weekly)

    The Vacation
Our 11 year old girls are avid travelers, and they both enjoyed Henry's travel adventures throughout the US. They also liked his 2 crazy aunts.
    Sweet Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was a sweet story to listen to. Nice pace, funny characters. If you want something casual to listen to while you are driving, on vacation or working around the house, this is a tale that will keep your attention without going too deep.
Things that make you go "Hmmm?"
Would you recommend The Vacation to your friends? Why or why not?
A few of my Southern friends, but not to my general pool of friends...the whacky characters and far-fetched events require a specific literary taste.
Was The Vacation worth the listening time?
For me, it would be right on the cusp...I know some people who are similar to the ladies characterized in the book...without that connection, the book would fall over to the not really worth listening end of the spectrum.
    Depressing
Would you try another book from Polly Horvath and/or Kirby Heyborne?
    no
What was most disappointing about Polly Horvaths story?
one dull horrible thing happening after another
    Which scene was your favorite?
    the end.
Did The Vacation inspire you to do anything?
never buy an audio book just because it's on sale.

Title: The Curious Adventures of Jimmy McGee
    Author: Eleanor Estes
    Narrator: Jane Jacobs
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 59 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-14-05
Publisher: Listen & Live Audio, Inc.
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
But Jimmy's life of turning on water and fixing dripping faucets is disrupted when he rescues Amy's doll, Little Lydia, from a monstrous wave that sweeps her off the beach. Jimmy keeps Little Lydia safe under his stovepipe hat, right on top of his magic box, where he keeps bolts of thunder and lightning, which turns Little Lydia into an electrified, out-of-control, be-bop doll with the zoomie-zoomies.
Can Jimmy find a way to restore Little Lydia to her original state as a "do-nothing doll" before he returns her to her rightful owner?
    Members Reviews:
    Whimsical and delightful !
Didn't think it could live up to The Which Family but the book didn't disappoint . Love the idea of a plumber as the hero and it was fun to visit Amy and Clarissa again . Just wish the do nothing doll didn't have to be restored back to her former self after contracting the zoomie zoomies ...
    ``Jimmy McGee... Hero.''
Hey, what can I say? ``The Curious Adventures of Jimmy McGee'' is just about the best darned book for BedTime Stories, 2nd only to Pooh. It's fantastical & wonderous, w/plenty of character & originality. With catch-phrases & situational romps, Estes creates a wonderful world, easy for children of all ages to escape to. & I'm sure to catch heck for saying this, but in a time of the over-saturation of a certain `boy wizard', it is more than refreshing to have another little boy come along in ``6-60 time'' with his ``bombazine bag & stove-pipe hat'' & get us all caught-up w/``zoomy-zoomies''. =D Here's to you, Jimmy McGee! ``Hero.''
    Too long
This is a great book, but it is just stretched way too long. It starts out great and keeps the reader glued to the pages. Then the book starts to end the same things happen over and over again and you just think when id this book going to end. Personaly i think this book could have ended about 50 pages befor it did. I think the book would have had a shot at the Newbery if it didn't go on as long as it di. That just goes to show that you cant hve a super-de-duper start but then your ending just really stinks your book wont be that good. You need to have a good ending and a good begining in order to have a good book.

    Members Reviews:
This cuts out the true ending
The CD version of this has the full ending. This version ends prematurely. It makes no sense as to why the ending was edited out.
    Another Winner
Martin Jarvis is THE narrator for the "Just William" stories. His voices are perfect.
Written about a mischievous boy, these stories are perfect for middle schoolers on up. I LOVE the stories when I need a light, amusing, well-told tale.
    A fabulous read
Personally I'm a huge fan of Martin Jarvis's interpretation of the Just William stories and thus my rating is biased from the outset. It's not the longest audio book and is a shame it isn't available unabridged, but is superbly read, funny, and should appeal to all ages. My children all adore these stories as do my own parents. Whenever we're in the car together, it is the Just William stories that get the unanimous vote, and this particular book is the one selected the most often.
If you haven't heard any of these stories before, then it is well worth a listen. You are introduced to all of the characters, so doesn't matter that this wasn't the first William book, and Jarvis reads it so wonderfully that it is a few hours of total enjoyment. I loved it!
    Brilliant; shame about the rip.
I love just William and this as always is brilliant. Martin Jarvis loves his subject so dearly that he always brings every story to fantastic wicked life.
The only thing I have to say is that this is a very poor rip from the original cassette version. You can hear the spooling on the track. This would be fine and I don't mind usually, but I really wish audible would put warnings on poor quality recordings. The BBC do this on their sites and on their CD's and I believe it only fair to know what you are buying. There is also some voice drag. How very retro, I feel 8 years old again and frantically trying to rescue my beloved tapes before my player chewed them up!
    Apart from that outstanding.

After the first lively carefree years in the fields, Black Beauty learns to accept the saddle and bridle and the rule of her masters. But a succession of misfortunes shows that the life of a horse can be harsh and painful. This touching portrait, full of drama and sadness, is as moving now as when it was first written in 1877.
