Sweet, loving homage to farm animals

Having lived the farming life, I was captivated by the book. I loved the sweet little story, the use of photos and graphics to create a charming book, and the promise of more to come.

So many of us have become separate from the animals who feed us, the natural world that allows us to survive. Children grow up without understanding the intricacies and complexities of life beyond the technological.

Thank you to the Churchmans for this gem of a book. May Sweet Pea and Friends appear in many guises in the years to come.

When the "Knitting Club" gets together for a Sheepover anything can happen!

My wife and I have been avidly following the adventures of Farmer John, Jennifer, Ollie, Sweat Pea, Mighty Finn, Sadie, Violet, Prem, Laddie, Quinn, Cyrano, Mazie and the rest of the farm for several years know. We just received our early-supporters box with books, lambs made from Sweat Pea's wool and other goodies. John even gave us a copy to take to the elementary school library where my wife was Principal. (see photo- MMKA Librarians receive their own copy)

The book is a treasure. John's photography and post-photography work is nothing short of brilliant. The book production is first rate and the neat thing is that the story and the characters are all real. In fact, John often invites supporters to his Vermont farm to meet the various animals we've all grown vicariously to love.

The grand-daughter is getting a copy and her own lamb for Christmas. Cannot recommend this book too highly.

Great book

I love the book. Children can really feel the sense of belonging that these special farm people have for their animals. The kindly, caring interactions are so important and the photography is beautiful.

A true classic.

You might know the jungle book by the Disney version, but have you ever wondered were that story came from? Well Rudy Kipling's tail is were the story begins. The book is not the disney version, I repeat it is NOT the disney version. This book is a collection of stories written by Rudy taking place in india. I very much enjoy this collection and also own the hard copy in addition to the kindle version. As soon as I downloaded this list night I couldn't help but dive in and re read a classic. So if you like short stories, grab your cat, dog, or teddy bear ( what ever is the most snugly ) and curl up for a entertaining read.

Fine Story and Active Table of Contents...

Also has an interesting short biography of the author at the close together with about a dozen photos of the man which was a definite plus. Very good book!

A book of delightful short stories and poem-song

'The Jungle Book' by Rudyard Kipling is a book of delightful short stories and poem-songs about talking animals. Five of the stories follow Mowgli, who as a human toddler was separated from his parents after Shere Khan, the tiger, tried to attack the family in the jungles of India. Instead of ending up as a meal for Shere Khan, Mowgli is raised eventually by two wolves who see him as one of their cubs. But first, a meeting was called and the ethics of adopting a manchild were debated by the pack. The matter is settled when Baloo, the bear, agrees to accept Mowgli as a student to teach him the Law of the Jungle; and Bagheera, the black panther, agrees to take the pack to a newly killed bull in exchange for Mowgli's acceptance into the pack. The wolf pack take the deal, but Shere Khan becomes Mowgli's mortal enemy.

Mowgli has a number of adventures which are not all entirely pleasant, but I have this strong feeling it was on the whole fun to be a feral child!

Other talking animal stories are included which showcase a variety of wild and domesticated animals who find Mankind and Nature directs them towards certain choices and troubles. Their personalities and inclinations direct their fates somewhat, but, gentle reader, I found them all to be wonderful creatures.

A truly magical tale teaching how important it is for humans to protect Earth

The boys; Gallad (14 years old) Maelog (13 years old) Augustus (10 years old) and Wyatt (The Chosen One; 9 years old) are busy exploring the empty Jenkins Manor when Wyatt sees a beautiful woman in the mirror. At first the boys will not believe Wyatt, but then they too see the image. Itâs their mother.

Initially, the boys are terrified by this appearance of their mother, that is until she starts speaking and they realise that she really is there with them inviting them to come through a portal sheâs opened via the mirror to join her in her new home; Talia, there is no hesitation on their part to take up her offer and soon, they are tumbling through the various layers that separate Earth from Talia.

Arianna had given her life shortly after giving birth to Wyatt and on passing, she became the Queen of Talia with Elogon; the God and Universal Spirit. She explains that she has been waiting for the boys to reach the stage where they can receive special training on Talia. This training will greatly assist their father; Dalton Tobiah, who is a scientist desperately trying to save Earth by inventing alternative forms of power to generate the necessary energy needed by Earth to run efficiently. The methods that are presently being used; coal, fracking land, and oil being drained out of the earth are dangerous to the Earthâs survival.

I have had the honour and privilege to listen to this truly brilliant fantastic story while walking. Listening to this story unfold while walking through a wood made me stop several times to take in Natureâs beauty that we so often take for granted. Following the boys as they gather knowledge from the Tree of Existence. They each given a guardian from the sea creatures, and there is much more for the three eldest boys to learn while e attending Archwood Academy. One of the most important lessons is ecology.

Wyatt in the meantime needs to learn other powers and his path takes him on a different journey accompanied mainly by Deverell, a dwarf from the Hampton Village. It is while with Deverell, that Wyatt learns how very dangerous Lucempest the leader of all that is evil, can be.

Fantastic Illustrations!

I spotted this book on the shelf of a bookstore in Greenwich, England largely due to the illustrations rather than just the content. I bought it for my then two-year-old son while we were living in London. Of course I suspected what others have confirmed in their reviews, namely that it initially taught him about some dirty habits rather than moving him away from them. But that was short-term and with repeated reading he soon learned not to______, or ______, or eat _____ and ______.

Still, we both did find it hilarious and over a year later, he's still enjoying this one. And in the long run he doesn't "wee in the flower bed", or "pick boogies from his nose", and he never eats them, so I think one can still argue that the book works. As others have written, he does love repeating "No, Bertie that's dirty Bertie!".

This year on a return trip, I managed to find another book illustrated by David Roberts at the Tate Modern Museum Shop - Cinderella (an Art Deco rendition) and it's also a great story with a modern twist.

I hope more of his books will be sold here in the US.

Dirty Bertie is the best, really gives framework to discuss the grosser things in life with your kids and how to handle it appropriately

A cute book all preschoolers identify with!

The preschool kids are crazy for this book. They ask for it over and over.

tickles the funny bone in kids

My 6,4 and 2 year old all love this book. They think it is hilarious. They love to shout out "No Bertie, that's dirty Bertie" . I thought it may have been a little young for my 6 year old but I think the "oooh yuck factor" won him over. He liked it so much he couldn't wait to take it to school so his teacher could read it to the class. It makes everyone giggle and I recommend it highly , so do my kids!

Not my cup of tea

I purchased this book because it was a bargain book (only $5.99) and I thought it might have a lesson for my daughter about not eating or touching yucky things. For me, I think some of the references (picking "boogers" and "eating boogers") and illustrations (Bertie and the cat "peeing" in the flower bed) are inappropriate. The book basically gives kids new ideas. When I was finished reading the book to my daughter, she proceeded to stick her finger in her nose and say "Look mom!" I would have returned the book but my daughter ripped one of the pages shortly after we read it. I also thought about donating it to the library but would have to do so anonymously because I wouldn't want my name associated with it.
