We pick up on the 2nd part of the conversation Ranae had with Jacqueline Campion from the Marino Therapy Centre.
This week, Ranae is thrilled to share with you the first part of a conversation she had with Jacqueline Campion from the Marino Therapy Centre. Speaking with Jackie and meeting someone who has dedicated their life to helping those with Eating Disorders to make a full recovery was an honour for Ranae. Jackie is herself fully recovered from her own Eating Distress and her views on recovery have been inspirational.
This week Ranae speaks to Kristina, mum of 1 from Drogheda, who has a two tiered experience with Eating Disorders. She has not only gone through her own experience suffering with an eating disorder but has also viewed it from the lense of losing a loved one to this mental illness. She spoke to me about her dad who sadly passed away last year and her hope that going forwards, others will not have to suffer in silence like he did.
Ranae speaks with Michael, from County Clare, an author and mental health advocate. He has suffered from a variety of mental illnesses beginning when he was a child and into his adult life. Michael suffered from an eating disorder known as muscle dysmorphia or bigorexia, though he was never formally diagnosed.
This week Ranae speaks with Harriet Parsons. She is a psychotherapist and the Training and Development manager with BodyWhys, the national charity for Eating Disorders in Ireland. Their mission is to ensure support, awareness and understanding of eating disorders amongst the wider community as well as advocating for the rights and healthcare needs of people affected by eating disorders.
This week Ranae sat down and spoke with Kelly, mother of two from county Meath. She has struggled with binge eating disorder from a very young age. Aside from her eating disorder she has suffered from additional medical complications and the added stigma that people of size face in Ireland.
This week Ranae had the pleasure of speaking to Darren Kennedy, Irish television presenter, fashion columnist and style entrepreneur from Dublin. As a well loved personality on our screens, he exudes confidence and charisma. However, Darren recently opened up about his struggle with anorexia in his teens and early 20’s. It was a pleasure to hear him speak about this really important issue and to start opening up the conversation when it comes to men suffering with eating disorders and disordered eating.
In this week's episode, Ranae speaks to Amanda from Dublin who has battled with anorexia for most of her adult life. She has been treated as an inpatient multiple times. Amanda is in a place of active illness and her bravery in speaking to Ranae for this episode was astounding. This must have been very difficult for Amanda, but it is important for people to see the reality of what an Eating Disorder does. Perhaps even saying these things out loud, will lessen their power?
