When we are careless about what entertains us, we risk being discipled by the culture instead of by Jesus. King David showed us the way by being protective, making a covenant about his eyes and ears, because he knew that whatever he gave his attention to would eventually get his affection.

We stress that if you let something in, it will come in and live in you. What you consume is either going to feed your spirit and faith or feed your flesh and sin nature. Remember, the flesh is hostile to God. We examine how ungodly entertainment can desensitize your spirit and starve your hunger for God.Not all entertainment is evil—good entertainment can leave you feeling encouraged and rejuvenated (just ask about the fun that happened at Band of Brothers!). However, we must beware of the danger: when sin starts looking normal and holiness starts looking extreme, your gates have been open too long. We can't stop everything we're exposed to in this world, but we can control what we allow into our gates and choose not to entertain. God's Word gives us a filter: fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, and admirable (Philippians 4:8). It’s time to take inventory, clean house, wipe your histories, and unfollow anything that is drowning out God in your life.

We are getting super transparent in this message! Sister Rechelle Lyons continues our series, "What does God say about_____?". Today we are talking about "What does God say about Judging?". Rechelle shares a hilarious (and ultra-relatable) story about shaking her head and criticizing her husband's parenting style—and realizing she needed to look in the mirror. The Bible warns that criticizing and judging our brothers and sisters in Christ is actually "evil talk" intended to harm and destroy character. When we adopt a self-righteous attitude or try to convict others, we are taking the place of the Holy Spirit and aligning ourselves with the enemy, the accuser. We are all equal servants under one Master (God)! Learn how to use righteous judgment, which begins with self-examination and choosing to approach others humbly and gently to restore, build, and edify, not tear down.

If the people originally invited make excuses (which Alexander Pope says are worse than a lie because they are "a lie guarded"), the master sends servants out to the streets, lanes, highways, and hedges to compel everyone to come in. This shows us that spiritual excuses are often a sign of lukewarmness, and we can’t hang out in the middle—we have to pick a side.

God doesn't care if you're blind, broke, or an outcast; there’s a seat with your name on it if you want it. It is our urgent responsibility to be those servants and invite people, because today is the day of salvation.
