Roughly 60,000 people crossed from Morocco into the Spanish city of Ceuta in a matter of hours. Ceuta's population is about 84,000. At least 72 people died on the Spanish side and 11 more on the Moroccan side, most of them drowning or crushed in the surge at the Tarajal breakwater.

Nora is a Lebanese-American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and war veteran who took up arms as a Christian militiaman at age fifteen during the Lebanese Civil War. He's in Barcelona sponsoring a student program, hours from the crossing, and he's been talking to people in and out of government about what actually happened.
He starts with the context most Americans don't have: Ceuta and Melilla aren't on the European mainland at all. They're Spanish cities on the North African coast, and together they form the European Union's only land border with Africa. Get in there, and on paper you can go anywhere in the EU. As he puts it — imagine if the United States had exactly one entry point, and it was El Paso.
Then the geopolitics. Spanish officials have blamed trafficking networks for spreading a distorted version of a recent Supreme Court ruling on migrant returns. Ceuta's own regional president has been blunter, saying there's a widespread perception locally that Morocco allowed the crisis, if it didn't orchestrate it. Morocco's Interior Ministry blames social media misinformation. Nora walks John through why he thinks Rabat calculated that Washington wouldn't come to Madrid's defense — and what Spain's recent posture toward the United States and Israel has to do with it.
He also draws the parallel he's uniquely positioned to draw: he watched Beirut go from the Paris of the Middle East to a failed state. He talks about what he calls the guilty conscience of the European left, why he thinks assimilation is the whole question, what he means by the spirit of a nation, and — as a conservative businessman — why he'd go after the employers first.
Then investigative journalist Tony Ortiz on Anthony Fauci.
Fauci sat before Rand Paul's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and declined to answer more than a hundred questions, invoking the Fifth Amendment. By John's count, 111 times. He repeated the same twenty-four words for close to three hours — including when asked what day of the week it was and what color tie he was wearing.
One senator confronted him with the argument that a pardoned man has no Fifth Amendment privilege to stand on, citing Brown v. Walker. Others walked through emails they say show federal employees, on federal time, soliciting cash prizes on Fauci's behalf — including a $900,000 award — and then pressuring the agency's own ethics office to approve them.

Unique Green, 47, operated A Community Funeral Home on Wheeler Avenue in the Third Ward without a license. Prosecutors say Green forged a will after the death of 78-year-old Lawrence Gammon, claimed to be his common-law spouse and sole heir, opened an account in his estate's name using a falsified death certificate, and took nearly $2.2 million along with his home and three vehicles. Gammon's out-of-state family says they had never heard of Green until they called for funeral arrangements.
Green faces five felonies — theft over $300,000, four counts of forgery, and tampering with a government record — and is free on an $800,000 bond. Prosecutors also allege the licenses to be a funeral director and embalmer were obtained with fraudulent paperwork claiming military service. When Houston police raided the funeral home mid-service, they removed 48 boxes of cremains; investigators wrote that some families had been waiting for their loved ones' remains since 2023. Green's attorney, Gilbert Villarreal, says his client maintains her innocence and that there's an explanation for the evidence.
John closes with Proverbs 14:34. Borders, public health, and the care of the dead — three of the most basic things a society owes its people, all failing in the same week. His argument is that these aren't three stories.
