Often times, people think that coaching is the giving and receiving of advice. However, it is more of a probing conversation that brings awareness and insight to whatever is brought to the table by the client. This episode is an organic treat in which Michelle coaches Claire in a sort of mock session, based around a hypothetical scenario with some inserted truths from Claire's personal experience. This mock session demonstrates the process of coaching, which is built on specific competencies and standards. Claire and Michelle then discuss these fundamentals of coaching from the frameworks of their respective training programs.

Claire and Michelle discuss divorce as an adversarial, one person versus the other, process in Louisiana and how to deal with the challenges that consequently emerge, especially emotionally. Because of it's adversarial nature, divorce can have an underlying tone of hostility right off the bat. This might leave a gap between the way we want things to be and how they have to be, because that is just the process that we have no choice but to accept and follow. Claire and Michelle highlight the importance of extinguishing that hostile tone from the start, leaping off (and staying on) the right foot, and most importantly, remembering to be soft with yourself, even when the legislature feels harsh.

What do we expect out of our listeners?  We want your time and energy- show up every day and be real with yourself.  Stay on task with the process with your coach, therapist, or counselor.  Get educated- read books, ask lots of questions.  Act on what you learn, put into practice, and be strong and set boundaries with your ex.  Most of all: love yourself!
