Disney fans rejoice! On this episode, I'll be chatting with Garner Holt from Garner Holt Productions. Most likely you've seen old episodes of the Disneyland television series where Walt Disney and his Imagineers were building the first ever Audio-Animatronic figures like the Enchanted Tiki Room birds, President Lincoln, pirates, and many more. And that's how it used to work. Nobody was building animatronics at that time, so The Walt Disney Company and the folks at WED Enterprises had to do it for themselves. A lot of people still believe the animatronic figures we see in new attractions are being made at Walt Disney Imagineering. But that's rarely the case these days. Enter Garner Holt, who has been creating the greatest animatronics in the world since 1977, and has been building them for Disney for several decades. Whether it's small animated figures on parade floats, a giant Maleficent dragon, or anything in between, there's a good chance that Garner Holt Productions had their hands in the project. Listen as Garner shares the story of how a visit to Disneyland's Haunted Mansion changed the trajectory of his life, and how he later got to play in that exact sandbox with the creation of Haunted Mansion Holiday. Tania is most famously known as the designer of the iconic purple wallpaper in the Haunted Mansion, but she was originally hired to help with the design and decorating of New Orleans Square, followed by Club 33. As part of her job, she found herself on an epic research trip that took her from the real New Orleans, to some swamp land in Florida long before it was Walt Disney World, and the New York World's Fair.
