DIZNEY COAST TO COAST: Disney Talks with Rose-Colored Glasses Removed

Disney fans rejoice! On this episode, we share our report on D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event which took place this past weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center. Now that we've experienced all three days of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, we can share our thoughts on what went right, what went wrong, and what went better or worse than we had anticipated. This episode was recorded in a hotel room just hours after the convention weekend ended. Although we were both tired, and perhaps a bit loopy, I thought it was important to get our immediate thoughts. I would like to note that this episode is all about the logistics and production of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. For info about news that came from the convention, be sure to tune into next week's House of Mouse Headlines where we'll discuss it all. For now, here's the overall recap of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2024.

Disney fans rejoice. This episode is a recording from a live panel I moderated at San Diego Comic-Con International 2024. I was honored to sit and chat with Disney illustrator Rick Law at the historic convention as we discussed his work on Disney VHS and DVD covers. This was among the very first panels of this year's convention, taking place at 10am on Thursday, July 25th in room 32AB. This unforgettable day included an audience full of fellow Disney nerds making it an absolute joy. Enjoy my conversation with Rick Law, live from San Diego Comic-Con International.

Disney fans rejoice. On this episode, I'm chatting with Ed Comber from Next Stage Preservation. At Next Stage Preservation, they're working to bring Marceline, Missouri's Uptown Theatre back to life. Marceline, Missouri is the boyhood hometown of Walt Disney, and the Uptown Theatre is a cinema on Marceline's Main Street where Walt and Roy premiered "The Great Locomotive Chase". The Uptown Theatre has a long history, but sadly, in recent years it has fallen into disrepair. A lot of money and work will need to go into bringing it back to life, and Ed is working hard to make that a reality. He's already had some success getting the Uptown Theatre on the National Register of Historic Places, which is no small feat. Listen as Ed and I discuss the theatres' history, the small town of Marceline, Missouri, and what Ed envisions for the reopening of the theatre during its 100th anniversary. That and so much more on this episode.

Disney fans rejoice and imagine you're at Disneyland right now. You're approaching The Hub and you turn left to cross the bridge into Adventureland. As you cross the bridge, you see Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room on your left. Do you decide to enter? If your answer is "No", I'm sure it will change to "Yes" by the end of today's episode as you'll have a much greater appreciation for this attraction. Joining me is Ken Bruce, author of "Before the Birds Sang Words". In his book, Ken deep dives into the history of this attraction that has Walt's hands all over it. Ken makes his case as to why it's one of the most important attractions inside a Disney park and why it should always remain. Plus, we get into the rich history of this attraction and dispel some rumors that have been touted for years. Join me and Ken as we discuss Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room.

Disney fans rejoice! I recently came across an online streaming service called Thirdwing, where they produce original theatre you can stream at home. Thirdwing caught my attention when I found two of their plays, "Burbank: The Strike Against Walt Disney" and "The Fairest", a play about the women in Disney's Ink & Paint Department. In this episode, I chat with the writer and director of both plays, Cameron Darwin Bossert. In addition, he even performs the role of Walt Disney in one of them. While speaking with Cameron, I was particularly impressed with the amount of research he had done, even though a good portion of the story comes from his imagination. And you'll never guess what inspired Cameron to write them. That and so much more in this episode.
