Accusations are thrown and discoveries are made, or were they--wink, wink. We then catch up with Seren and the Crimson Guardsman she has been accompanying. They're following in a wake of some deserters that are inflicting pain to whoever they see fit. When Seren and the Crimson Guard catches up to them; justice is served, and Seren feels nothing.

We later find out that it came at a cost, but she makes her escape from Trate with some help from a company that has been there for the last two years. With the arrival of the Tiste Edur, they now have a way leave, its contested, but easily dealt with.
