  • How To Cultivate The Courage To Change The World with Ryan Berman

Welcome to another episode of The DNA Of Purpose Podcast. Here, we dive deep into understanding how entrepreneurs, leaders, and change makers can build unwavering trust, demonstrate courage, and lead transformative, purpose-driven initiatives, especially in our ever-evolving world.

In this episode, we journey into the heart of COURAGE. Courage isn't just a fleeting feeling—it's that unyielding flame that pushes you onward, despite paralysing fears or overwhelming fatigue. It's about peering into what the future holds and having the tenacity to act boldly now. True courage lies in trusting your instincts, pursuing undeniable callings, and speaking out—even if your voice trembles—for the change you envision and aspire to manifest.

Courage is the foundation of a life led with purpose. Which is why I'm thrilled to welcome Ryan Berman back for another enlightening conversation.

A little about Ryan: He's a veteran in championing courageous ideas, having devoted over two decades to trailblazing storytelling and change management. His revolutionary methods have garnered recognition in prestigious platforms like Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Inc., and Forbes.

Author of Return On Courage: A Business Playbook For Change, our prior discussion dissected his book's profound insights. Curious about that chat? Here is the link: https://omny.fm/shows/dna-of-purpose/ryan-berman-purpose-the-central-courage-system

I must mention, beyond Ryan's impressive credentials, what truly stands out is his genuine warmth and affability. Having conversed with numerous awe-inspiring personalities on this podcast, Ryan, despite the physical distance, emanates a comforting sense of camaraderie. It's arguably his most endearing quality, and many would echo this sentiment.

Today, Ryan and I deep dive into courage once more. We discuss its evolution, especially in the post-pandemic world, and its personal manifestations urging transformation. We treat courage as both an attainable skill and an essential facet of futuristic leadership. Delving into its dual nature, we observe how it equips us to maintain operational momentum, while also scouting the horizon for forthcoming challenges.

Together, we uncover how to channel fear into making audacious choices and taking impactful actions. Trust me, that's merely scratching the surface.

A quick heads-up: You might notice some sleek sound effects enhancing our chat. We encountered a few connectivity glitches, so we introduced these auditory elements to ensure a smooth and pleasant listening experience for you.

So, brace yourselves for an exhilarating discourse on courage with the incomparable Ryan Berman. Dive into The DNA Of Purpose Podcast.

  • Purposeful Performance: A Blueprint for Building a Flourishing Workplace with Tonille Miller

I'm thrilled to spotlight our first guest for this season—Tonille Miller. In her impressive 15-year journey, she has donned many hats as a management consultant, Industrial/Organisational psychologist, and executive coach. Tonille's steadfast commitment is evident in her quest to curate positive workplace cultures. Collaborating with expansive global entities, agile start-ups, and foresighted entrepreneurs, she's consistently sought to establish workspaces that are not just functional, but places that profoundly uplift and enrich the human spirit.

The exciting part is that, Tonille's about to unveil her new book, 'The Flourishing Effect: Unlocking Employee Thriving and High Performance as Your Competitive Edge.' It’s not just another business book; it's a clarion call. In an era where businesses often unintentionally stifle their own talent, Tonille champions a different narrative, one where employee well-being directly translates to business success. She emphasises that real purpose arises when we bridge the gap between organisational goals and what employees truly need to thrive.

Today's episode is a tapestry of insights. Some themes that Tonille and I dissected include:

    • The soul and substance of "The Flourishing Effect," spanning its philosophical heart to its actionable core.
    • We explore the Future of Work Paradigm. As work dynamics shift at an unprecedented rate, our discussion zeroes in on the challenges and possibilities that lie ahead, focusing on adaptability, culture, and what it means to flourish today and into the future.
    • We also decode the space in between workplace cultures and the task of environmental preservation. With global sustainability at the forefront of our shared purpose, examining the possibilities for solutions through the lens of workplace dynamics offers a rejuvenating angle, unveiling the possibilities for new solutions that focus less on the products and more on our habits and behaviour in the workplace.

And so, Today, as we kick off a new chapter of the DNA of Purpose Podcast, once again strap yourself in! I know in my heart of hearts that the next chapter is about to take us all on a very exciting ride. Welcome to season five of the DNA Of Purpose Podcast.

Today, I was lucky enough to lock down an hour with one of those extraordinary minds for this podcast.

  • Jon Yeo: The Cutting Edge Of Technology, Influence & Ideas Worth Spreading

Today I am excited to chat with a friend, a colleague and one of the most highly regarded authorities in the world of business influence and communication. His name is Jon Yeo, and he is an Executive Communications Coach and Licensee of TEDxMelbourne. He is also someone I would consider to be a translator of the space between business influence and emerging technologies revolutionising thought leadership.

In working with leaders of all kinds, Jon focuses on building trust, empathy and engagement using an analytics approach to speaking and mastering influence online, onstage, and in life. He describes himself as a Radical inclusionist, and I can attest that everything he does is 100% focused on igniting human progress.

Before today's interview, I had the pleasure of working with Jon as a part of the Tedx community and our work together as facilitators for the Speakers Institute and every time I have met him…I have had a deep curiosity to want to learn more about his perspectives on business and, more broadly, about the world.

As an optimized leader, he exudes a calm and quiet influence. With Jon, I always feel I am in the presence of a wise sage. He has done the work and mastered his art through deep research, observation and execution. Integrity is at the foundation of not only who he is but also how he shows up in the world. Jon has a rare ability as a leader to hold space not to speak -  but to be in a deep conversation with an audience. A transfer of energy that transforms every person in a room. And today, he shares with us exactly how he does that….which is so essential….because when we understand this, we know the gravity we have to lead the very change we seek. The kind of change the world needs today more so than ever before.

  • Tim Duggan: Killer Thinking & How To Create Ideas That Positively Shape The World.

Today's guest Tim Duggan and he is a successful author, advisor, self-confessed optimist, and one of the nicest humans I have had the pleasure of interviewing. In fact, this is the second time I have interviewed Tim, and both times he wowed me with his charisma and quick and witty intellect.

Tim has co-founded several digital media ventures, most notably Junkee Media, the leading digital publisher for young Australians. His first book, Cult Status: How To Build A Business People Adore, was named the Best Entrepreneurship and Small Business Book at the 2021 Australian Business Book Awards. Tim is also the Chairman of the Digital Publishers Alliance, a group representing over 100 titles from the leading independent publishers in the country, as well as working with a range of businesses he's passionate about.

Now in hearing Tim's bio, it is evident that his achievements are mind-blowing, but there is a reason I wanted to talk to Tim for the first episode of this new look and feel podcast. Tim embodies what I call the OPTIMIZED leadership trinity. He is purposeful, a person of influence and an intelligent optimist. He is also driven by the belief that business and business leaders have the power to create the solutions the world needs.

There is so much to take away from this podcast.

    • Why optimism as a mindset leads to solutions focussed thinking.

I also want to give a shout-out to our beautiful creative director Amy Davron Rose, who joined me for a natter in the studio with Tim. You will hear a beautiful voice and wise questions during the interview. Amy, the evolution of this podcast would not have been possible without you, and you will always be in the fabric of Optimized.

  • Optimized: The Evolution Of The DNA Of Purpose
It has been a while since I have dropped an episode. And in that time, I discovered something interesting.
I talked about one core theme for 108 episodes of The DNA Of Purpose. That purpose is an energy in motion, and that our purpose evolves just as we do. What I didn't factor into that conversation was that sometimes something needs to die to evolve. Sometimes that something is a story, a belief or a pattern of behaviour. In other cases, it might be a project, a job or a business. The Great Resignation is a testament to the fact that there are chapters in our life where we rethink everything we thought we knew or everything we are currently doing.
When I released the last episode of DNA Of Purpose in April off this year, I had no idea it would be the final episode of that iteration of the podcast. Quite simply, what happened was that my life was evolving faster than the podcast - and that evolution was fundamentally changing me.
Professionally it has been an exciting year of levelling up as a speaker, with the excitement of once again being on stage and connecting with real human beings. Yet, personally, it has also been a year of great loss with family members and friends passing. I also turned 40 - and somehow realized that I was staring at an hourglass, watching time pass me by, showing with purpose, but somehow inside of me I knew there was more. That there was something else. Since then I have followed the breadcrumbs...
Essentially, I knew I wanted to play a bigger game. One that incorporated a more integrated version of me, fusing my passion for purpose alongside my professional experience as an authority in the world of business influence and as an advocate for the power of intelligent optimism. I just knew that when the trinity of purpose, optimism and influence come together in a leadership capacity, we empower people not only to be the change the world needs....but to lead it.
Welcome To The New Age of Optimization.
Optimized - A podcast for leaders who believe that the future belongs to optimists
Spend any time on the internet or watching the news, and you'll get the sense that the world is falling apart. Is that true? The answer might surprise you. Humanity is doing a lot better than we think. It's just that we're not hearing much about it.
Optimized is a podcast that explores why intelligent optimism is an essential leadership quality in times of great uncertainty. Cynics might sound smart, but in reality are taking the easy way out. By contrast, optimistic leaders look beyond the events in front of them, prioritize solutions over problems and guide people through the current crisis. Optimists move the world forward – they always have.
In this podcast, we explore why intelligent optimism is a must-have for anyone hoping to drive change in today's world. I will be interviewing respected, purpose-driven leaders, entrepreneurs and changemakers from around the planet to understand how to attract and retain talent, ignite innovation, amplify adaptability and transform the world's biggest problems into opportunities.

  • Luke Briscoe: Indigi Business - A New Age For Indigenous Influence and Impact
So often we associate science and technology as something we design today, that creates the future we hope to exist in tomorrow. We automatically envision lab coats, and microscopes, or the Elon Musk’s of the world in factories controlled by robots with the common narrative being that we must invent, innovate and iterate to land on the solutions we need to create a better world.
On the flip side, we see cultural art, music and creative expression as something that holds the ropes of history, rather than the threads of the future. We see images of indigenous paintings, we buy boomerangs in our tourist shops, and occasionally hear the rumble of the didgeridoo at an event. We celebrate culture, but maybe not venerate it as a vital part of moulding our collective future.
What if our ancient cultures and first nations people all over the world had key insights into science, technology and harnessing creativity to build a better future before we were even thinking about it? As leaders, entrepreneurs and business owners if we considered these cultures, as our business consultants how would we build, design and deploy our offerings in a different way?
Today's guest is Luke Briscoe. He is CEO of Indigi Lab and a proud Kuku-Yalanji man from Daintree in Far Northern Australia. For the past twenty years, he has been leading cultural change and organisational transformation across numerous sectors. His vision for a sustainable world is one that places First Nations Science and Innovation at the forefront of providing positive solutions to the vast Environmental, Cultural, and Social issues facing Humanity.
Indigi Lab supports research enabling communities to develop cultural enterprises and provides science and cultural consultancy around sustainable solutions, especially around the SDGs. The Indigi Lab framework and principles into researching and project planning is guided by the United Nation Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and The Seventh Generation Principle, and support real sustainable approaches to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advancement in sciences and technology.
In addition to his work in the science and technology space, Luke is also the co-founder of Earth Kin which he has started with his daughter Phoenix. EARTHKIN is an initiative started by the KIN global music collective and the brains trust of INDIGI LAB with the aim of ensuring First Nations Youth artists, fashion designers, startups and the broader community have access and tools to create their own fashion labels.
Get ready for a journey through indigenous culture, the importance of indigenous thinking and perspective in business, science, technology, art and social change. Welcome to the DNA Of Purpose Podcast.
