1995 - Hampden, Maine.
Alex James was somebody who always kept to herself. She was 58, and lived on her own in an apartment in Brewer, Maine. She was doing well for herself after being diagnosed with mental health issues, and just wanted to live in peace. Alex James, who previously went by the name Joy Crafts Earley, never hurt a fly.
On a summer evening in June 1995, Alex never came home from an evening stroll. The next day, her body was found near a storage unit, savagely murdered and assaulted.
It was a seemingly random attack, and police had no suspects… until years later, when a 24-year-old man named Douglas Littlefield—who had been terrorizing women in the Bangor area—was finally apprehended for his crimes. 
This is the story of Alex James, aka Joy Crafts Earley, and how survivors took down a sexual predator, and helped solve a murder.

1969 - Calais, Vermont.
On the afternoon of September, 12, 1969, a Vermont State Trooper approached a seemingly abandoned camper on a property in rural Calais, Vermont. 
The scene inside the camper was that of incredible violence: the decomposing bodies of James and Iola Hipp were sprawled on the floor having been interrupted by an intruder during their lunch. 
James and Iola were retirees from Lutz, Florida on a month-long road trip of the Eastern US and Canada, just passing through the Vermont country with their dogs in tow. They had no enemies in the area, let alone friends. Who would want to hurt this sweet couple?

The Unsolved Murders of James and Iola Hipp

1981 - Norton, Massachusetts.

In October 1981, 38-year-old Andrew Peter Dabbs, shot his girlfriend, Robin Shea, while driving through Norton, MA, leaving her to die on the side of the road. Robin was just 21. 
At first, police merely wanted to talk to Peter. But when he skipped town, they had no choice but to issue a warrant for his arrest for murder. 
After an encounter that almost got him caught, investigators counted the days until Peter slipped up again. 40 years later, both police and the Shea family are still hoping that day will come.

2004 - Northport, Maine. 
Something about 28-year-old Jeremy Alex was different. He wasn’t his usual free-spirited self—lately, he’d been acting more and more paranoid that bad guys were coming after him. 
Then, on the cool evening of April 24, 2004, Jeremy suddenly ran into his former teacher’s backyard in a panic, wad of cash in hand. Despite trying to calm him, Jeremy ran off into the thick Maine forest, never to be seen again.
The truth of what happened that night is just as bizarre and murky as it was in 2004. But the Alex family is hopeful that through a tangled web of speculation and rumors, the truth will eventually emerge. After all, how much longer can somebody keep a secret?

1987 - Roxbury, Massachusetts. 
It was Labor Day weekend in 1987. 19-year-old Dora Brimage was celebrating her friend’s birthday when she got into a car to head to a club called Joe’s Jaguar. She never came home. Her body was found the following morning at a construction site when the workers showed up for their shift.
For years, Dora’s case sat unnoticed in a pile of Boston’s unsolved crimes. It hadn’t gotten much coverage when it first happened, and it all but seemed like Dora had faded into history. 
Until 2013, when the DNA from her kit was processed for the first time, revealing a killer who had been there all along.
