    Tian Yu "Collin" She is a first-year internal medicine resident at NYU Long Island. His parents immigrated from China when he was a child and he long had aspirations of becoming a physician. He chose a 7-year medical program through the State University of New York and NYITCOM.  With aspirations of becoming a gastroenterologist, he sought out mentorship from Dr. Storch and helped found this podcast. Tian Yu will speak about 7-year medical programs, his experience with osteopathic medicine, podcasting, and how he obtained a "coveted" residency program.  He will speak about the benefits and difficulties of "working through medical school" and the experiences that he feels were important in getting him to where he is today as well as his plans for the future.

    Dr. Amir Olfat is a native Californian and a graduate of Chapman University, where he earned a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. After graduating from Chapman, Dr. Olfat moved to New York's Hudson Valley for medical school.

    While in medical school, he had the opportunity to explore the greater New York area, from Brooklyn's East Flatbush to Nyack, in order to complete his core clerkships. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Olfat completed an intense surgical internship at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he was awarded “Intern of the Year.” Dr. Olfat is now working on completing his residency in interventional and diagnostic radiology at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He is excited about what the future holds for the field of IR. In addition to his academic interests in radiology and research, he enjoys photography, biking, and traveling.

    Dr. Julieanne Sees, DO, FAAOS, FAOA, FAOAO, is an AOA board-certified osteopathic orthopedic surgeon with dual fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic surgery and neuro-orthopedic surgery. She notably has been recently named a 2021 "Top Doc of America." She currently is the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine fellow in Osteopathic Medicine, serving on the National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience and Committee on Accelerating Progress in Traumatic Brain Injury Research and Care.

    Dr. Sees received her degree in osteopathic medicine from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. During medical school, she received several honors, including the Illinois Medical Society Student of the Year Award and the National Medical Council of Student Government Presidents Student DO of the Year. She went on to complete a combined internship and orthopedic residency at the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. During residency, she received AOF’s Outstanding Resident of the Year Award. Her passion for promoting clinician resiliency and traumatic brain injury research, prevention, and care are at the forefront of her practice.

    An active member of the osteopathic medical profession, Dr. Sees serves on the AOA’s Committee on Governance and Organizational Structure as vice chair, the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) Board of Directors, and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgery Publications and Communications as chair. Currently, she is president of the Delaware State Osteopathic Medical Society and president of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association (CCOMAA) Board of Governors.

    Dr. Norman Gevitz currently serves as senior vice president of Academic Affairs at A. T. Still University. His osteopathic journey started at the University of Chicago, where he studied sociology. Interested in writing his thesis on "occupational role duplication," he spoke to an MD friend about different professions. When the topic of osteopathic medicine came up, he became intrigued. This work ultimately led to his landmark book, "The DO's: Osteopathic Medicine in America," which documents the evolution of osteopathic medicine from its founder, the "Lightning Bone Setter," to its comprehensive range of practice today. He speaks about the benefits of osteopathy and the challenges the profession may face in the future.

He then attended Lake Erie’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was a Transitional Rotating intern at Sampson Regional Medical Center to then achieve his goal of becoming a dermatology resident at Campbell University.

    In today’s episode, Dr. Maxfield discusses his journey during his premedical years that ultimately led him to osteopathic medicine. He starts his story by discussing obstacles he faced during high school and his time at a community college. Dr. Maxfield recounts his experiences as an EMT and journey to osteopathic medicine, ultimately providing premedical students and medical students guidance in their own journeys to medicine.
