One time a witch became exceptionally cross with the 2 little girls. She has been sick all week, but she makes her slow way to the marketplace to get a ripe melon she can enjoy all by herself, on her porch as the sun sets, light low, heat hiding till the morning. But as she arrives at the fruit stand she sees the 2 selfish, little girls buying the last melon for themselves! She rages inside! She boils! She thinks of every nasty, dastardly spell she can cast on these 2 little, dead girls walking. The 2 little girls pay for the melon and notice her glaring at them in a particularly nasty way. They smile back in their blind, sweet little way.
There is a big, fat and old buzzing bug that lives at the swamp near the 2 little girls’ home. It buzzes and flashes bright and zips this way and that in it’s ugly, lazy and old way. It only remembers the 2 little girls at this point, but every time they show up for a late moonlight picnic to watch the fantastic buzzing bugs there he is, biggest and fattest and brightest and ugliest. They always put out a little dish of sugar water for the silly old bug and they shoo away the hungry, brash and younger bugs until their favorite big ol’ softy flys down, methodically settles in, accidentally wetting his big translucent wings until he can’t fly away anymore and slowly and happily drinks the whole dish all by himself. Later as the candles fade and the moonlight wanes and all the words seem done the girls smile at the old, joy-drunk thing. ‘goodnight cutie’ ‘see you soon stud’ The old bug just sits comfortably and smiles at the 2 little girls as he drifts off to a cozy sleep.
Their first win is immediate, they do not give the benefit of the doubt, they start, they hit hardest where it is weakest, they are fierce, but they are right, they gouge out the soul-being-brain of what is a thing playing Death, they rip that pulsating, sentient vile mass/wretched thing/reprehensible less-than-a-beast right out of the center of that abysmal creature/purest yuck. But despite their valiant efforts the fight continues and continues beyond forever. On and on it extends like a bad, haunting dream, further and further beyond hope and faith and nice. Still the girls bear down, gritted teeth and locked jaws, they shove back, they rip through, they do not hold back. Their final blow cannot be explained. What took place is beyond all known realms and could have beens and maybe weres, words are completely inadequate. What can be said is 2 brave, confident little girls stand triumphant as a cold and purposely forgotten thing fades into oblivion and nothing. 2 brave, confident little girls take a deep, cold breath, wait a silent moment together and then begin the journey back home.

It is an endless fight. It stretches far past infinite, beyond insanity, madness, never should, despicably indescribable and it pounds farther and farther and farther past existence and hope fors and is reals. The 2 girls are ruthless and ferocious from the start, this is not a fight of good faith, their opponent is purest evil and they are cynical in their approach, showing no mercy, they strike first and always. This fight was never going to be polite, but they will not be defeated because they are nice, you do not need to give up nice to defeat a thing worse than evil, you do not need to lose nice to stop evil. They stand, they fight, they hit first.

‘oh silly, stupid Death, if we are so worthless why have you spent so much effort bringing us here?’
A flash of movement and the 2 little girls stand near Death and the beastie.
Their once full packs are now depleted and Death quietly mocks their mortality. “Come ‘little ones’, we still have long to go, do you still need so much food and so much rest?” They do not respond to such obvious digs, they only look to one another with an eyeroll as they trek strongly forward. But things have become dire. There is no aid on this other side, there is no hope on this other side, there is only an everpresent end that they march towards, less strong, less full, less ready than moments before. They need to find the path in, so they decide to split up, Death and 2 brave little girls split their patrols of the area to increase their chances of finding a way to the beastie. And than, after cleverly chasing that monster all day, the 2 tired girls happen upon a scene...they finally find that brutish beast, comfortably conversing with Death...updating Death...an ally of Death...a friend of Death. And they realize it has all been a fake...a feint...those 2 evil things have been league together the whole time.
