Dan Cushman, M.D., is board-certified in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and specializes in the care of musculoskeletal injuries in both athletes and non-athletes, electrodiagnostics, musculoskeletal ultrasound, concussions, and endurance sports-specific injuries with a particular interest in runners, cyclists, swimmers, and triathletes. His conservative approach revolves around using exercise as medicine and avoiding medications whenever possible.

He serves as the team physician for the University of Utah Track & Field and Cross-Country teams and is also the team physician for the University of Utah Swimming and Diving teams. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in Chicago, IL at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (Northwestern University), where he served as chief resident, then completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Utah. Dr. Cushman’s research interests include sports epidemiology, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and acupuncture dry needling in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

Outside of work, he is active in endurance sports with his wife and has 3 young children. He recently ran in the SLC Marathon 5K and got 3rd place overall.

Dr. Chalmers is a member of the faculty at the University of Utah within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He focuses on the care of all shoulder and elbow problems, from young athletes to shoulder arthritis. His practice includes minimally invasive arthroscopy, ligament and tendon repair, joint replacement, reconstruction surgery, fracture care, and revision procedures. As a former coach and division I athlete, Dr. Chalmers knows the importance of getting back on the field. He sees patients at the University Orthopaedic Center, the South Jordan Health Center, and the Farmington Health Center.

Dr. Chalmers graduated magna cum laude as a dual major in Biology and Biophysical Chemistry at Dartmouth College. He attended medical school at Columbia University in New York City, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Chalmers completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he received multiple teaching and research awards. He completed his fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at Washington University in Saint Louis.

Dr. Chalmers is a native of Portland, Oregon. He enjoys hiking, biking, and skiing with his wife, who is an oncologist at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Dr. Gee is Board Certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine and Emergency Medicine who focuses on the treatment of non-operative musculoskeletal conditions at University Hospital, South Jordan Health Center, and the University Orthopedic Center. He is a member of the teaching faculty at University Hospital and educates resident physicians and medical students through clinical teaching rounds and formalized didactic sessions. He is Board Certified in Sports Medicine and treats a number of musculoskeletal, neurologic, pulmonary, cardiac, and metabolic issues surrounding athletes and active patients.

He is involved in the core faculty of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and helps educate Sports Medicine Fellows and resident physicians in clinical settings and through formal didactics.

Dr Gee is heavily involved in sports medicine coverage and currently is a Team Physician for the US Speed Skating team and is the Medical Director for the High Performance Center at the Utah Olympic Oval. He is the Head Team Physician for the Salt Lake City Stars, the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz. He has also provided medical support for the Tour of Utah. He is the Medical Director for the Salt Lake City and South Jordan Marathons and serves as the attending team physician for Copper Hills High School and Jordan High School. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Nitro Circus World Games and Dew Tour Summer and Winter competitions.

Dr Gee enjoys working with active people who are trying to improve their health. He enjoys being outdoors riding bikes, camping, skiing and playing with his family.

Dr. Travis Maak’s practice is focused on sports medicine and arthroscopic treatment of the hip and knee. He is the Head Orthopaedic Team Physician for the Utah Jazz and Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah. Dr. Maak is originally from Salt Lake City and a graduate from Stanford University. He completed his medical school at Yale School of Medicine and surgical internship at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical College. His orthopaedic surgery residency training occurred at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, where he continued his training with a fellowship in sports medicine. During his fellowship, Dr. Maak served as an Assistant NFL Team Physician for the New York Football Giants.

Dr. Maak specializes in arthroscopic hip and knee surgery and has a specific interest in the treatment of athletic hip and knee injuries. These injuries include hip and knee arthroscopy and preservation surgery, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), cartilage restoration, and ligament reconstruction including ACL and multiligament knee reconstruction. He has specific expertise in hip joint preservation (including hip arthroscopy, labral repair and reconstruction, capsular repair and stabilization) and complex knee joint restoration and reconstruction (including meniscus transplantation, cartilage repair, osteotomy, and ligament reconstruction). He has been actively involved in research throughout his medical career and has published numerous scientific and clinical articles in the areas of hip and knee reconstruction. His research interests include hip and knee joint preservation, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), meniscus and articular cartilage injury, and knee joint biomechanics.

Dr. Robert Burks, Professor, specializing in the field of sports medicine and shoulder surgery. His practice focuses on injuries to and degenerative conditions of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Burks graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of California at San Diego and subsequently did a sports medicine fellowship with Dr. Dale Daniel, MD, in 1983. From 1983 to 1986 Dr. Burks was in private practice in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1986 Dr. Burks moved to Wayne State University as director of sports medicine. In the fall of 1988 he joined the University of Utah, Department of Orthopaedics, and has been head of sports medicine since 1992. Dr. Burks practices at the University of Utah Orthopaedic Center and is in clinic on Monday and Thursday

Dr. Nick Monson, Assistant Professor, (clinical) is a board certified primary care sports medicine specialist within the Orthopedic Department of the University of Utah. Dr. Monson specializes in evaluation and treatment of spine, shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee and foot and ankle issues. He also has special interest in concussion management and treatment of chronic tendon issues. Dr. Monson utilizes ultrasound for diagnosis as well as for guidance of injections allowing for rapid assessment and treatment. He also specializes in performing spinal injection procedures using fluoroscopy.

Dr. Monson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Utah State University in Exercise Science and then attended medical school at Des Moines University in Iowa where he earned multiple academic awards. He completed residency at the University of Utah in Family Medicine followed by a fellowship in Sports Medicine also at the University of Utah. Dr. Monson serves as a team physician for the US Ski Team, University of Utah Athletics as well as multiple local high schools and remains active in event coverage throughout the community.

Dr. Monson grew up overseas in Japan, England and Germany following his Dad who was a teacher and coach. He learned a passion for a wide spectrum of sports and human performance and remains active in athletics of all types. His special interest lies in keeping high level athletes, weekend warriors and those that sometimes enjoy watching sports at the top of their game
