  • Episode 82 - 30 for 30: Run Ricky Run
Roll up a Hog’s Leg®, Doccalo. We’re about to get into the highest 30 for 30 yet! Ricky Williams might just be the most enigmatic NFL player ever. So enigmatic that the Heisman Trophy winner has no issues with walking away from millions of dollars to go sleep in a tent in Australia. Meanwhile, back in the United States, bitter schlubs who peaked in the 11th grade and loot their kid’s college funds to get good seats for an NFL game that they can’t really afford in a multi-billion dollar stadium that was paid for by their tax money, are really really pissed off that Ricky won’t do something that they would murder their own children to be able to do. Drew and Bob watched the strangely amateurish, yet weirdly affecting, “Run Ricky Run” by Sean Pamphilon and Royce Toni. Does Ricky Williams run in this one? Yes. He runs to the end zone, he runs to some poker game blunts, he runs to lady genitalia, he runs to some gurus. He even runs back to the NFL a few times. Maybe he will even run his way...into your heart. He’s so good at ancient medicine that you won’t know you’re pregnant for months. Where are we going with this? Don't know. Just listen to the damn episode. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Shorties 19: Franz Reichelt Jumps from the Eiffel Tower
Hey Doccalo. It’s time again to go back into film history. Back to France. 1912. Paris. The Eiffel tower. This very short video is of a very brave inventor by the name of Franz Reichelt who demanded to test out his Missy Elliot Parachute Suit® all on his own with no dummy prop or anything. Why not also invite all your friends and all of your neighborhood to come watch you jump off the Eiffel tower? Then you can show all your haters that your Missy Elliot Parachute Suit® is awesome and works. Well, the haters win this day because the suit didn’t work and Frank Reichelt made a six inch imprint into the ground beneath the Eiffel Tower. Franz didn't make it. Nearly a hundred years later, the inventor and musician, Missy Elliot showed the world the best use for a Missy Elliot Parachute Suit®. Getting your freak on. Ginger and Bob lay this 100+ year old film out for you. The moral? Be more like Missy and less like Franz. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Episode 81 - Black Mother
Welcome, desperate doccers! You’ve tripped over another episode of the Documenteers podcast. On this episode Eldridge and Bob went to the theater to watch Khalik Allah’s “Black Mother” and now we are all baptized. Come on down to Jamaica...mon. (groan) We be jammin’. (ugh) Let’s roll up a hog’s leg (YES) and go to that great island nation and feel the intense swirling of culture, religion, mothers, life, death, more mothers, Chinese wholesalers, genitalia, mothers, and babies. Another collage/picture style doc that manages to bring about curiosity without a lecture. Shot on multiple cameras. Probably even one of those first ones where you couldn't move for two hours. This artsy joint might be in or around a city near you. This ain’t the Jamaica your aunt and uncle went to and came back with vaguely racist t-shirts to give out to everyone. Sure, you wear them and listen to that same copy of Bob Marley “Legends” over and over again. Wishing your white dreads didn’t look like you wipe your cum in them, but all that wishing does no good. The sorry fact is that your white ass doesn’t have dreadlocks. You have cum hair. Filthy filthy cum hair you dirty dirty white. Apologies to people who are good at sound engineering. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Shorties 18: Juggalette Beauty Pageant
Woo Woo, Doccalo! Our shameless attempt to co-opt with the Juggalos continues and we head to the infamous “Gathering of the Juggalos” where a young woman called “Steak/Stake/Staik???” goes to see what the Juggalettes are up to and it turns out they’re changing the game of female representation within the Juggalo community. We finally get to a VICE documentary for this “Shorties” episode. (note the host named “Steak”sp?) Ginger and Bob discuss “Juggalette Beauty Pageant” which is also produced by Broadly. Chugging Faygo® will never be the same. Actually, chugging Faygo® is pretty much what you would expect. Juggalo sub-culture is much maligned and evolving, but you can only hate so much until you might as well just party. Woo Woo! Keep on Doccin’. Woo Woo!

  • Episode 80 - The Bill Murray Stories vs. The Bill Murray Experience
Hey there, Docubuddy! YOU READY FOR A DOC FIGHT!? Last time we did this, we threw both of the Fyre Festival documentaries against each other and declared a victor. The results stunned the world. We re-visit that theme because there happens to be two documentaries referencing the fandom and experience surrounding one of our most beloved comedic actors. In a NO HOLDS BARRED viewing experience, Akil and Bob sat down and watched “Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man” by Tommy Avallone on Netflix. (Yes. That is the actual subtitle.)We PITTED it VIOLENTLY AGAINST “The Bill Murray Experience” by Sadie Katz. Viewable on Prime Video. You like self-absorbed philosophical shoe-horning in correlation to celebrity obsession? HELL YEAH! Is it all about Bill Murray or about the person? WHO KNOWS?! Do you like it when people put things in all caps? HELL YEAH YOU DO! We all got a Bill Murray movie we like. What would you do if he washed your dishes? Ate your french fries? Played tambourine in your band? Slashed your tires? Spat on your feet? Burnt down your shed? Stole pictures of your family and posted them on his Pinterest account? You’d probably love it, wouldn't you? If he had to take away any of your children, which one would you give him? You don't have a choice. Let us smash documentaries. Apologies to Tommy Avallone, Sadie Katz, and Joel Murray. Keep on Doccin’®

  • Shorties 17: Björk Talks About Her TV
BEWARE OF POETS. We will tell you the moral off the top. Welcome to another “Shorties” episode, Doccalo. We’re excited to bring back a host we haven’t heard since last year. Ginger returns to the Documenters for her first trilogy of Shorties. We start off with a short video of a pop singer that we’re pretty sure is immortal. We check in on Björk who is checking in on her TV, and she wants to tell us how it works. Icelandic poets warn of the subliminal manipulations of television frames, but the cold logic of the Dutch bring us all back down to reality. Someday we will all live in a little TV. I will be the bellhop in the TV city hotel. We don't know what this video is originally from, if any listeners know, give us a shout. Also, give us your social security number if you want. Apologies to Icelandic poets. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Episode 79 - Catwalk: Tales from the Cat Show Circuit
Strut that shit. Shake your tail. Don’t vomit hairballs on the judges. These are just some of many rules that should be exercised if you are a cat going for glory on the Canadian cat show circuit. Angela and Bob needed a decompressor from all the documentaries they’ve been seeing regarding child abduction, domestic abuse and other terrible things. The solution? “Catwalk: Tales from the Cat Show Circuit” by Aaron Hancox and Michael McNamara. You can watch it now on the juggernaut that is Netflix. Get ready for all the hissing and drama, and we aren't even talking about the felines! LOL!! ROFL!!! ROFLMAO!!!! Hey, remember that thing on the internet that was all like, “Can I Has Cheezburger?” HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH HAHAAHHAA HAAAHHAHA AAAAAHH AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Oh, God. I’m sorry. I might be legitimately losing my mind. Seriously, I think I need help. Boy, those squishy face cats sure look dumb. Don't trust that pumpkin bread. Apologies to cats. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Shorties 16: JD & the Straight Shot perform "Ballyhoo" at The Belfast Empire Music Hall
Hello Doccalos, welcome to the third and final installment in the "Celebrity Bands" series. Bob is obsessed with famous mediocrity, so this topic will return for sure. Angela and Bob close out this trilogy with what might just be the most frustrating celebrity band of all. "Celebrity" is a de-facto term here as the person was born into wealth and was pretty much handed the operations of Madison Square Garden on a silver platter. New York Knicks fans might have a panic attack because this Shorty features the thin-skinned James Dolan. James Dolan owns (and tanks) the Knicks, will ban you from the Garden if you criticize him, and will force all MSG employees to go watch his Country/Folk/Roots Rock band "JD & the Straight Shot" whenever they play in town. Can you believe that this band that is fronted by the guy who runs Madison Square Garden, has played at Madison Square Garden?! WOW! It was tough to choose from all of the JD & the Straight Shot mediocrity available online. We decided to go for a live performance of the song "Ballyhoo" at theater in Belfast. If you're not sure what a ballyhoo is, James will put on a stovepipe hat "Jamesplain" it to you in this video. Barely. I must say, "the Straight Shot" do seem enthusiastic. They must make bank considering all those millions James Dolan saves not paying NYC property taxes. Can you tell we're big fans? Keep on Doccin'.

  • Episode 78 - 30 for 30: Silly Little Game
Play ball! Pencil and paper ball, that is! Also known as Rotisserie. Later known as Fantasy Sports. Now it makes mad money. Drew and Bob point to the stands and knock out another 30 for 30 with Adam Kurland and Lucas Jansen’s “Silly Little Game” and it’s all about the origins of fantasy sports. Rotisserie baseball to be exact. This is about the publishing dorks that invented a game that is very boring to anyone that isn’t playing it. They break it all down in this flick alongside some even dorkier reenactments. There are lots of reenactments. Like, half the flick is reenacted. Lots of dumb jokes too. When a podcast with seemingly endless dumb jokes thinks the jokes are dumb then you better believe the jokes are dumb. This could be a divisive subject for a podcast audience, but you can't doubt the monolithic presence of fantasy sports. Take it from Bob, the defending champion of the Drink ‘n’ Draft Fantasy Football League. Probably that league’s greatest champion of all time. It was kind of a Cinderella story, really. It all started last August. Draft Day. Bob got the first pick andzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ..Z.Z...ZZZZZZZZZ..ZZZZZZZZZZZZ Keep on Doccin’ zzzzZZ

  • Shorties 15: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on QTV
Hello Doccalos. Get Your Herzog flavored Faygos up in the air because Angela and Bob are ready to put the spotlight on another musical act that is propped up on celebrity money. This next band you think you may enjoy on paper, but seeing it happen is another result entirely. We don't even get to the music in this one, because Billy Bob Thornton and his Boxmasters have a bone to pick with the host of QTV. (Turns out the host is called Q. We think.) Actually, the Boxmasters seem pretty damn chill about it. Billy Bob, on the other hand, does not want any references to the fact that he is an award winning actor to come up in band interviews. This two year old (at the time) "Modbilly" act is on nationally syndicated shows on its own merit and it has NOTHING to do with the celebrity of Bill Bob Thornton. Angela is still cringing from this one. No other Boxmasters video comes close to the views on Billy Bob Thornton's 'Blow Up' on QTV video. Hey. He will always have "Randy, You Tunin' Son of a Bitch" and "Go Fuckin' Practice, Randy!" from the always quotable film "Sling Blade". Bob just might get a tattoo of Dwight Yoakam from "Sling Blade". Don't even try to talk him out of it. Keep on Doccin'.
