  • Episode 77 - The Inventor
Hey-Oh, Doccalo! Hope you got your turtlenecks all cleaned up. Hell, keep em dirty for all we care! It’s time for another episode of the Documenteers and this episode gets pretty bloody! By popular demand, Bob and Stuart sat down to discuss an HBO original documentary, and our first foray into an Alex Gibney film! Elizabeth Holmes had a dream, and an uncle (once), and a deathly fear of having her blood drawn. So she had a vision to get full blood diagnostic from a mere pin-prick. Then you put a “nanotainer” into a box/machine called an “Edison” and get a full blood diagnostic in the mere minutes. Sounds great, right? Henry Kissinger, Joe Biden, Jared Leto, George Shultz, Bill Clinton, Betsy DeVos, Rupert Murdoch and Walgreens are all so down with the idea that they throw money at it. Problem is that there’s a little thing called “science” and “facts” and science doesn't give a damn about an inspirational speech. Stuart and Bob break down the documentary “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley” by The Gib®. We’re guessing that all those investors we named probably wish they invested in a time machine so they could not throw all this money around. What makes Elizabeth Holmes tick? What’s going to happen to her? Does she blink? What, exactly, is inspiration porn? There’s a lot to unpack here and a lot of “The Truth” to throw up in the faces of “The Man” and we’re just the pack of assholes to get that done. Siemens is the real name of a real company. How wild is that? Apologies to Siemens. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Shorties 14: Corey Feldman & the Angels perform "Go 4 It" on the Today Show
Hello fans of tiny documentaries that many don't consider documentaries, but actually they are as written and decreed in the Book of Herzog that has not yet been available to the public. Welcome to the Documenteers podcast. The SHORTIES edition! Angela joins Bob for a three-part Shorty series on celebrity fronted bands. This week we start us off with a doozy. A couple of years ago Corey Feldman went on the Today Show with his band "The Angels" and some Michael Jackson inspired dance(?) moves and performed "Go 4 It" to promote his upcoming record "Angelic 2 the Core". What followed was collective laughter from the entire country. Corey didn't appreciate us all laughing at him. Now that we've had a couple of years to settle on this infamous performance, how does it hold up? Will the laughter turn to respect? Does it still cringe? Is this just the right kind of terrible to actually be amazing? Will Bob digitally purchase all of Corey Feldman's albums? Hit play on that bad boy (your phone, I mean) and find out where the Baby Herzog-hammer falls! Keep on Doccin'!

  • Episode 76 - Hell's Bells: The Dangers of Rock 'n' Roll
Hello, Doccalos. You ready to get your walk right? You ready to either burn or expand your collection of rock music? Jonni and Bob dive into the 3 hour expose on Satanic themes in popular (and sometimes very underground) music. We’re discussing the notorious christian film “Hell’s Bells: The Dangers of Rock ‘n’ Roll” by Eric Holmberg and Reel 2 Real ministries and our new favorite songs are now just pop songs played backwards. Also, a shocking amount of verses read from Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible. You better believe we saved them all. If you grew up in a particularly evangelical environment throughout the 90s then maybe you watched “Hell’s Bells”. If you did see “Hell’s Bells” then you maybe got really got scared of Whitney Houston and never left your house ever again. Perhaps many others who watched this film were introduced to metal, punk, and noise bands that they otherwise never would have learned about. From the poppiest of pop music to some serious musical deep cuts of the eighties, this “cult” classic can be appreciated by both Christians AND actual Satanists! ALSO, Bob says Martin Luther at one point and we think he meant John Wesley. Denomination nerds need to calm to fuck down. Let’s get into this Hell Hole and maybe learn a few things about Huey Lewis’s satanic ass. We fucking knew that guy was evil. Keep on Doccin’®

  • Shorties 13: N Judah 5:30
Hey, Doccalo! This Shorties episode feeds into an intense need by audiences that want podcast content about something they’ve never heard of, have never seen, and possibly will never see. A little over three minutes long and currently only available as an extra on the “Rainbow Man / John 3:16” DVD. Sam Green’s “N Judah 5:30” is a brief glimpse of a train line in San Francisco, and it’s green-lit, slow-motioned passengers. A tiny slice of the San Francisco grind that’s hard to find.
In only 13 Shorties episodes, we’ve managed three episodes about trains. Yeah.
    Fun facts.

  • Episode 75 - Lorena
Thank you for listening to the Documenteers! This episode, Bob and Angela go down the 90s hole for a story that anyone conscious at the time will always remember. We’re talking about that time Lorena Bobbitt cut off the dick of John Wayne Bobbitt resulting in Jay Leno babbling a slight variation of the same joke for the next 20 years. But this documentary series isn’t called “An Asshole Loses His Penis”, it’s called “Lorena” and it’s directed by Joshua Rofé and produced by the prolific Jordan Peele. “Lorena” is the story of Lorena Bobbitt and what she did to escape the abuse that John Bobbitt is very bad at denying. What is the bigger picture of this tabloid sensation? Where is Lorena and John now? Available to watch now on Prime Video if you haven’t done so already. For those that have, let me just say congratulations on knowing what a severed penis looks like. We also see John’s ballbag. Pretty cool. Keep on Doccin’.

  • Shorties 12: Pie Fight '69
Yo, Doccalos. The next two weeks of Shorties are companion pieces with Stuart and Bob’s episode of “Rainbow Man / John 3:16” by Sam Green. In fact, this small bit of San Francisco hippie tomfoolery called “Pie Fight ‘69” was directed by Sam Green and Christian Bruno. A film troop called “Grand Central Station” wanted to stick it to THE MAN and the goddamn HOLLYWOOD ELITES, so they brought 500 pies to a red carpet event. The results were what you would expect. Let’s go back to the year 1969. You can watch this short documentary right the hell here: https://vimeo.com/13946871 Also, here’s a commercial video for a wedding band called “Grand Central Station”: https://youtu.be/ZfVN63AynKk

  • Episode 74 - Rainbow Man / John 3:16
It’s the end of the age, doc fanatics! The rainbow wigged prophets will tell you it’s all going down soon! The end of the world that is. What other reason would you have for pointing a gun at other human beings? April Fools, Doccalos! I guess the trick is that you can't really find this documentary anywhere. Stuart’s vague recollection of this film led him to purchase it online for $374. A deep cut from Academy Award nominated director Sam Green. This is the story of a man who was once one of the most culturally recognizable in the United States. We’re discussing the documentary film “Rainbow Man / John 3:16”. Television obsessed marijuana salesman, Rollen Stewart, used to go to sporting events in a big rainbow-colored afro wig and dance around not looking like a giant dork at all. Then he started carrying around signs with bible verses on them. Specifically, John 3:16. Then he planted some stink bombs. Then he got a gun. I would say the rest is history, but this weird aspect of 80’s culture is quickly fading from social memory. Regardless, the visual image of Rollen will still occasionally find its way into pop culture. A movie of its time about a man of his time. Stuart and Bob proselytize all about it. Another episode where Bob says the word “sociopath”. The total sociopath count is at 112. Apologies to actual psychologists. Keep on Doccin’®

  • Shorties 11: Tommy and Frank
Martin and Lewis. Sonny and Cher. Bonnie and Clyde. Laurel and Hardy. Drew and Bob. Penis and Testicles. And now...Tommy and Frank. Before the presence of a lot of current medical technology, a Major League pitcher’s career was considered done when those pesky elbow tendons wore completely out. One day a desperate Tommy John, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, looked to the team doctor for a revolutionary new solution. Doctor Frank Jobe had a crazy idea to take a tendon from Tommy’s forearm and replace what is gone in his elbow. Seemed like a long shot at the time. Cut to present day and hundreds of MLB players have added years onto their careers with this revolutionary procedure. THUS WAS BORN THE TOMMY JOHN’S SURGERY. Hear Bob and Drew close out the March of sports Shorties with Richie Keen’s ESPN short “Tommy and Frank”. Not all Hall of Famers are athletes. Some are nerds who understand everything about your anatomy. I mean everything. You can watch this short right here: http://www.espn.com/30for30/film?page=tommyandfrank NOW WITH MORE TOMMY LASORDA!

  • Episode 73 - Abducted in Plain Sight
This week we get even more Angela as she and Bob discuss a documentary about a story they can’t un-hear. This doc has been burning hot since it dropped on Netflix a few weeks ago and the water cooler is fogging up over everyone gabbin’ about it. It’s a story that has to be heard to be believed. A Mormon family gets marked in Skye Borgman’s creepy 2017 film “Abducted in Plain Sight”. It’s a story that tells itself, but sometimes hitting a softball is a lot harder than it looks. Regardless, many things here will not be forgotten no matter how hard we try. If it wasn't for Jeremy Piven’s stunning performance as the pedophile, Bob Berchtold, in this film’s re-enactments, then it almost might be a documentary worth forgetting. Talk about an Oscar snub! Probably one of Jeremy Piven’s finest performances. He’s not listed in the film’s IMDB, but that’s just how modest Mr. Piven is. One of our finest actors, truly. One of the most creepy documentaries we’ve watched so far. Watch this, then pressure wash your eyeballs. Listen to us talk about it, then pressure wash your ear-holes. Then start drinking. Then quit drinking. Then relapse a few times. Drink a few more years even more heavily. Experience a health scare. Drink one last time. Quit drinking permanently. Re-align your compulsions towards documentaries and the best documentary themed podcast in the universe. Congratulations to Jeremy Piven. Keep on Doccin’®

  • Shorties 10: Cutthroat
Be warned on this Shorties episode, if you put the name “Clint Malarchuk” into an internet search engine, you will pull up a very gruesome, bloody and infamous sports injury. It was an unfortunate day for the talented Malarchuk who had just been traded to the Buffalo Sabres. A typical net crash became a nightmare as a skate slashed Malarchuk on the neck. That horrible moment may be the most known incident of Malarchuk’s career, but it might not be the worst thing he’s ever survived. Turns out Malarchuk is a survivor even when he’s trying not to. A heavy story, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. If you’re a vampire, then this ESPN short is pretty much porn. Vampires choke it hard to the Malarchuk video. The rest of us have to deal with the PTSD of seeing it. I can still see it. Watch this Shorty right here: http://grantland.com/features/clint-malarchuk-20-year-road-recovery-latest-30-30-documentary-series/ Unless you’re a vampire, proceed cautiously and hopefully.
