A lot has gone wrong for Penn State's football team during the 2025 season. The year started with expectations of contending for a national championship. Now, before October is even over, those dreams are dead, along with any chance to win the Big Ten. Their head coach has been fired, and their starting quarterback has been lost for the season with an injury.

One of the things that has caused issues in State College this fall is the difficulty the defense is seemingly having in adapting to new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles' complex scheme.
