What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Dayy #151

Why i don't use vibrate mode on the remote collar.

first if you use it, that does not make it right or wrong, but lots of folks have told me and also from my experience as well, that it freaks out the dogs, agreed, it can be actually too much for a dog and confusing. It also does not fit into our pressure on and off theory of dog training.

If you are using it because it sounds "gentler or less mean" to a dog, than that may be just your perception, i have seen dogs pee themselves after hitting the vibrate mode or hunker down in fear after hitting the vibrate mode..so there goes that theory.

Personally I like to teach dogs with the stim/shock setting and with the remotes we use from Ecollar Technology, we can whisper or shout to a dog with the remote, without me changing any of my calm energy. There are many variables to take into consideration as well with environmentals going on at the time of working your dog as well as if they

We have so many folks who I get daily messages from who are using all of our free content and making dramatic changes in their dogs lives. Going from out of control to in control, from a dog that drags you down the street to a dog that walks politely next to you, from a dog that would not allow anyone in the house, to a dog that at a minimum ignored people that came in and sometimes was social to people. So many folks are putting in the work (yep thats the magic, it does take work) and getting great to incredible results. Remember there is no magic to this dog training stuff, and knowing the information is not enough, you also need to be applying the info as well.

so if you are struggling, you can start by watching our free content and get going, even 30 minutes a day of active training will make a big difference.

A great question was asked during one of my Facebook Lives where we where showing how we rehab dog aggressive dogs. Someone asked if the dogs where trained to fight.

This is a common misconception and also something that most people (as in just about all people) will never experience, the chances of you ever meeting dogs that where trained to fight is slim if not going to happen. There is not many dogs out there that have been trained to fight that exists in peoples homes.

Unfortunately it is a disservice for the dog and the new owners. There are many reasons why a dog could have marks on their face and body, most likely it is just normal wear and tear of an active lifestyle and no fur to cover up the scratches that lots of dogs get in life.

What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day #147

When it comes to obedience it is important that dogs understand the word NO, to us it means, what you just did is incorrect and go back to what you where doing, we utlize this for when a dog breaks Place, Down and Recall command. Meaning if you where in Place and get up, and you here the word NO, you go back to Place, if you are in a Down and you get up, and you here the word NO, you go back into a Down. If you are called to your handler and you do not start coming to the handler and you here NO you should start moving towards the handler, if you have started recalling to the handler but you decide to stop or vary the direction of the course of recall and you here the word NO, you start going back to the handler.

This is something you can roleplay over and over again to make sure you have proofed your dog on the basics of obedience and then make sure your dog will do them around low level and high levels of distractions.
