I came across this question - "best tips to address counter surfing?" and I thought that this would make for a great episode. Find out what counter surfing is, why dogs engage in it and how we can address it, gently and with love.

Welcome to the first episode of the new year! In this episode, I deep dive into the importance of sleep for our dogs' physical and behavioural health and why so many of them perhaps struggle with sleep deprivation. At the end of the episode, I invite you to engage in an exercise that will help you understand your dog's sleep habits better and support them in meaningful ways.

I can't get over the fact that I have dedicated an entire podcast episode to spirulina but it's true - the lessons I learnt from feeding it to my dogs are so valuable. This isn't your usual safe/unsafe/superfood conversation - it's so much more. I hope you enjoy listening to it! Let me know what you think of it.

September is Pain Awareness Month - it's an opportunity to learn more about pain in our dogs, its manifestations with behaviour , ways to manage it and so much more. Pain & discomfort often goes unnoticed in our dogs and so in this episode, I share the different ways that pain can show up for our dogs, both in terms of behaviours and other physiological conditions. I also talk about the role of stress in heightening and numbing pain perception and why this is a welfare issue for our dogs.

In this episode, I deep deep into something that got me starting on my dog care professional journey - food & its relationship with dogs. I talk a lot about nervous systems in my consultations with clients. Because the behaviours that we see not just in our dogs but all living beings are linked to the working of the nervous system. When we understand how this works, we are able to appreciate the nuance in our dogs' behaviours. In this episode, I start by sharing why I emphasise so much on the importance of calm dogs and then flow into talking about the polyvagal theory, (which has been a new and very interesting find to me) the importance of safety in the nervous system , the benefits of regulation and the value of seeing all behaviour as information and in their relevant contexts. Let me know what you think of this!

This was such a lovely, heartwarming episode. Sowjanya Vijayanagar, a certified canine behaviour consultant who runs Dog Pawmise, and I caught up about what it takes to be gentle with our dogs and ourselves, why gentle parenting is so much more than 'parenting', the difference between a gentle approach and force free training and so much more. I personally had so many brain lit moments in this conversation - I hope you do too.

As a pet parent, I was trained to believe that I have to teach my dog to SIT and it's perhaps one of the most important things to teach dogs. But I learnt (not so soon enough) that asking our dogs to sit repeatedly can have a detrimental effect on their physical & behavioural well being. In this episode, I unpack some of that impact. Let me know what you think!

In this episode, I deep dive into the several ways that high intensity exercises like fetch, brisk walks, use of treadmills can impact our dogs' physical, emotional and behavioural health. It's a heavy episode but an important one. Give it a listen and tell me what you think about it!
