It’s a painful process to watch, the closing of a brewery. I can only imagine what it’s like from the perspective of an owner and founder of a brewery… but we get a little peek at what it’s like in this week’s episode with DogBerry’s founder, Tony Meyer. He talks about how he has rediscovered a love for craft beer, after it had almost disappeared at the end of DogBerry’s run… It’s a wonderful episode with someone that I’m happy to call a friend.

DogBerry is a fascinating example of what a Cincinnati brewery can be, they aren’t the biggest or the smallest in town. They do things differently than many newer places seem to do – and that’s one of the biggest things that I love about them.

But as craft beer (and craft beer drinkers) keep evolving, so does DogBerry. They are prepping to add a food partner into an expanded space and a menu that will include canned cocktails and wine for those folks who want the taproom experience but aren’t beer drinkers. I’m fascinated by a place like this that has to not only know who they are but know how to use their personality to drive growth like this.

I sat down with owner Tony Meyer to drink a couple of beers, and talk about it all. I’m excited to see what the next stage in the evolution of DogBerry looks like!

I’ve been waiting to do this show for a very long time… It’s a heavy one. I haven’t sat down with Dogberry Brewing company (on the Brewcast), and the brewery’s owner Tony Meyer for a couple of years now, and there is a lot that has happened in that time.

I wanted to give Tony a chance to tell his story, not because you guys don’t understand the terrible things that have happened in the last year – but because it is really important to understand who DogBerry is.

It’s not that any of this has changed fundamentally who they are – but it has solidified it in a way that not many things are able to do. I love these guys – and you deserve to hear this story from Tony’s own voice.

It’s been way too long since I’ve done a show at West Chester’s DogBerry Brewing Company.  This brewery has been a fun one to watch over the last year, as they’ve grown from being a nano brewery into a neighborhood gathering spot, pumping out 20 unique taps from their shiny new 10bbl brewhouse, and they’re putting cans on shelves this week.  What I’ve seen is a brewery growing up, and balancing the act of growing with remaining the same in the aspects that made their fans fall in love with them in their original space.  They’ve done beautifully.

I joined owner and head brewer Tony Meyer, along with Brent Garland, DogBerry’s “new” head of Sales to talk about not just how DogBerry has grown, but to dig into some of their new exciting news.  The brewery is releasing their first cans into the market this week – and that coupled up with the tapping of their first NE IPA means that they had plenty to share!
