On the night of February 22nd, 1946, a young couple parked on a "lover's lane" just outside Texarkana, Texas, was attacked and brutally beaten by a masked gunman. The victims, Jimmy Hollis and Mary Jeanne Larey, both lived, but were unable to provide a good description of their assailant. Police became convinced that the couple knew their attacker, but were covering for him out of fear of retaliation. The couple insisted they did not know him, and that if the police didn't stop him, his next attack would end in murder. Of course they were right, and the series of killings that resulted became known as the Texarkana Moonlight Murders. The psychopath responsible became known as the Phantom Killer. His identity remains a mystery to this day. (Subject Matter Begins @ 10:18)
