February 27, 2019The Ballad of John WayneFirst off a warning to anyone who has one of those Coca Cola embossed glasses in their cabinets.....I decided to have a Bacardi and Coke so I took the glass out and dropped a few cubes of ice in it...as the ice touched the glass it exploded....not cracked...literally exploded with bits flying all over the room.....the glass is the type which holds a pint and is quite thick with "Coca Cola" embossed on the outside....if anyone has one or a similar one...throw it in the bin. 2.I watched a very interesting programme on American "fibs".....which looked into the wonderful heroic events in their history and revealed what ACTUALLY happened.....examples of the many items was Paul Revere who supposedly rode across the country on his own and warned everyone of the approaching British.....there is even a huge statue of him ....however ...there was three of them and poor old Paul didn't make it to the end (fell off his horse I think)....and legend also has it that when the British tried to conquer them they were beaten by untrained farmers who bravely took up weapons and won the battle...when it was actually a trained army of Americans and French ....and there was an item with President George W. Bush prattling on about the day they gained independence and rang the independence bell loud and clear......the bell never arrived until 40 years later....and the Statue of Liberty was originally designed for the middle east who couldn't afford it so it was redesigned and sold to America.......it was a very interesting programme which makes you realise why a lot of Americans live in a movie world protected by John Wayne. 3.The BBC have been advertising the arrival of a new series featuring Alan Partridge...played by Steve Coogan....after all the hype I decided to watch it.....I must be missing something....there were a few rave reviews.....I don't think I even smiled...it was awful and that is half an hour of my life I won't get back......similarly this programme followed another half hour "comedy" called Warren....starring Martin Clunes......what I fail to understand is why these popular stars get involved in such rubbish....are they that hard up?....HOWEVER there is one saviour...it is called "Cunk on Britain" and features Diane Morgan as Philomena Cunk discussing the history of the country with top scientists and historians......the fact she knows nothing at all makes it very funny and original so the BBC must have SOME staff with a bit of knowledge about comedy. 4.I also watched a documentary on Walt Disney.....what an incredibly talented man.....the programme went through his life from his humble beginnings to building his amazing empire....what it brought home was the detail and thought behind the cartoons....for example he would have his cartoonists sitting in a room wathing a girl dancing and studying the movements of her dress and body....also he would bring animals in to study their movements.....he would even film a stone being thrown through a window then slowing it down to study what actually happens to the glass.....all this knowledge was put into the cartoons....most of which is missed by the average viewer....brilliant stuff.....it makes you realise what a genius he was.......not to mention the musicians who put the music together.....a great programme. 5.I thought I would link the song this week with the American mentality....it is called The Ballad of John Wayne....who is regarded as a hero over there....he won wars as a marine and won the west as a tough cowboy....when in fact he never saw any active service....he did HIS bit on the silver screen......which for some seems to be good enough....so "Get on ya horse and ride" with the Ballad of John Wayne....more0minPlay
February 20, 2019Roll Us Yer Cap Uncle Stanwatched a programme about how much the royal family cost the taxpayer....it was very interesting and threw up a few facts I didn't know.....when you see the unbelievable amount spent on banquets for example it is quite staggering.....with the gold cutlery and gallons of wine and champagne and necessary?.....and the royal train which costs 20 grand a trip....not to mention Prince Andrew's helicopter flights to and from his golf games.....apparently the family cost us 70 million a year....and that is just what we know about..........we are then told that knife crime is on the increase and we haven't got the money for more police.....which,after the cuts,we are 22000 short......not to mention the homeless etc.....and all we hear is that the royalty bring people into the country which is good for trade....which I certainly don't go along with......what the programme illustrated to me was the sheer lack of gratitude on their part....they wander around and actually believe they deserve it....and all we seem to get for our money is the occasional royal wave........more0minPlay
February 13, 2019LlanfairPG ....Eurovision and StudentsOur song for Eurovision has been chosen....by the public no less....so it looks like another disaster....the song is called "Bigger Than Us" and is sung by a lad called Chris Rice who is an X Factor winner.....say no more....we were given three songs to choose from....one was sung by a girl and was instantly forgettable....similar to the one which won the vote....the other song was called "Freaks" which was very good and would have been a strong contender in my opinion....but it seems the public know best.....another "nil pwa" for the United Kingdom I think.....and no doubt we will blame politics for our lack of votes.... instead of the bad song. 2.In order to make people aware of environment change they are bringing pupils out of some schools to put the point over and to educate our young....wow what a great idea!!....this will definitely save the planet....have you ever heard such tripe....who comes up with these pearls of wisdom....all this will do is make youngsters think they are a lot more intelligent than they are....and they will probably end up coming up with stupid ideas like this one when they get older.....a better idea would be to get them to pick up the litter most of them have left there in the first place........ 3.Sir Philip Green....the owner of Top shop has been regularly featured on the news for his alleged behaviour with some of his staff....needless to say the FEMALE staff....he is accused of tapping a girl on the bottom and calling her a "naughty girl"....despite the fact he regarded it as "banter" this could obviously scar the girl for life and she may have to find a dark room to sit in after this tragedy....and this is NEWS....forget the floods and earthquakes worldwide where people are struggling to survive....this young thing obviously needs her problem solved with a chunk of Phil's billions......otherwise how will her scars and injuries heal?....so the witch hunt is underway.......however Sir Phil is going to defend his reputation which I hope is successful as this sort of nonsense needs sorting one way or another...... 4.I watched the BAFTAS on TV as there was nothing else to watch.....boring or what?.....acting is a job that's all....because you have a bit of charisma and presence doesn't particularly make you special.....it makes you lucky......I have to laugh at the ones who are nominated but don't get the award....all trying to look pleased for the winner....now THAT is good acting...........I fail to see why we have to sit and watch all the nominations....just giving us the winners would improve the programme as it would only be half an hour long...however they paid a nice tribute to Albert Finney who has just died....I thought he was brilliant in Saturday Night and Sunday orning....and Tom Jones 5.I used to write songs for local artists and record them on my record label which they would sell around the clubs and which I would get them airplay etc...so it was a rare everybody wins situation...Paul Damian was one of the artists and a good pal....over a cup of coffee he asked me for a novelty song for his act to which I replied he could possibly teach the audience how to say that long Welsh word....he taught me how to say it and by the end of that week I had written and recorded the song....I put it out on a vinyl 45 with a B side called "Leading Lady" with the Princess of Wales in mind and sent a copy to Lady Di (to help her with her Welsh)....and got a reply from the Palace thanking me.......I then started selling it in the actual village which to my amazement it took off.....with visitors on the coaches wanting to learn how to say the word....i eventually put it on to YouTube and it has had nearly 2 million hits and has had plays on Radio One and World News and feaured on TV both here and in The States...initially I even went to see the professor of Welsh at Bangor University to make sure we had it right...and all over a cup of coffee on a Monday morning....and here it is...... "How To Say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"...more0minPlay
February 05, 2019The Magic of WalesWe have had our yearly batch of snow which has naturally caused total chaos on the roads....apart from those who haven't quite grasped the fact that ice on the roads can actually prevent you stopping we have the 10 hour delays on the motorways....where people have abandoned their cars....what puzzles me is where do they go?....."I'll just get out of my car and jump over this hedge into six feet of snow in this farmers field and take it from there".......when it all thaws out there could be solid bodies everywhere.....stay in the car!!! 2.The other item which has had a lot of coverage is the footballer who went down in the light aircraft on his way across the Channel....a very sad story as he was so young.....after calling off the search it was reopened with the help of public donations and they have found the plane.....it does make you realise how vulnerable we all are and how it's not about money at the end of the day.................and someone put an interesting post on Facebook.......it showed a photo of a beautiful view of countryside and mountains with a comment saying "This is an anti-depressant" ....then another picture of pills saying "This isn't"....which again is easy to say but some of us can't get out to see our wonderful countryside for whatever reason.....personally I enjoy the beauty this country has to offer and like to feed my soul but I do sympathies with those who can't. 3.I watched the England rugby match in the Five Nations....and strangely I found it very boring....for the first time ever.....I also find I feel the same way watching football .....I have played competitive sport all my life and I am beginning to wonder why I find it all boring to watch all of a sudden......is it my age?.....there was a time I would watch hours of cricket and be transfixed with the Olympics but strangely nowadays I couldn't care less.....very strange.....maybe it is because I am a participant at heart and not a spectator?.....maybe it's just me and perhaps these guys who get so upset when their team lose are right?.....to me there are so many other things in life.......maybe I'm wrong. 4.When I started my record company in 1980 I included a "demo service" which I advertised nationally.....I would invite songwriters to send me their rough songs and I would knock them into shape for them....this proved very successful and actually paid for my studio....although it was quite hard going as some of the songs I received involved the writer singing in the bath....or even whistling the tune.....but I always managed to get things sorted.....on one occasion this chap required his song (called "Our Lady of Chestacova") to be demoed as a choir....so I layered my voice 16 times and sent it back....he sent it to a religious song festival in Rome and it got through to the finals....(as the then Pope came from Chestacova).....I got a call from Rome requesting me to come and sing the song......as it happened I was working on a musical for Radio City and couldn't make it so I asked my pal Paul Damian if he fancied going and I'd give him the backing track.....so off he went and sang the song and met the Pope .....the chap who wrote the song never went......big mistake.................Paul came back with a vinyl album of the show which included the song....and a nice tan from his free holiday.....and I suppose I can say I was too busy to meet the Pope. 5.Paul now lives in Spain and as a tribute to my mate the song this week is called The Magic of Wales which is a track from the album I wrote and produced for him back in the day......he actually taught me to say Llanfairpwllgyngyllgogrychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.....which is approaching 2 million hits on YouTube.....great singer...great mate....more0minPlay
January 30, 2019What Happened to Julie?.Prince Philip has apologised to the lady he pulled in front of when he was driving with his eyes closed....the letter has been published which was typed but with the opening and closing line in his handwriting....so that's O.K. then......the lady in question has been on TV thanking his Lordship for the letter......which will be worth a few bob....and she will have made a nice bit of cash from the papers if she gets it right.....she also had her arm in a big sling which is a good idea.....so I applaud her....that's the way to do it.................there is a move afoot to place speed ts to catch those who speed up and go through on amber.....another right idea from someone trying to justify their job......I've said it for years the only cure for speeding is to put speed cameras everywhere.....and just have random ones working....they would pay for themselves in a week...........oh I forgot....I was once told that there has to be three fatalities in an area before they can put up a speed camera....WHY?? 2.Social media is being blamed for suicides amongst the young....we of a certain age find this hard to understand...and wonder why you can't just switch your phone off when being bullied.......but it's not as simple as that as the young are very vulnerable and have become addicted to it all....which gives a sort of imaginary "poer" to those who sit in their little rooms and send out stupid messages which helps improve their sad little lives.......and as social media accelerates I'm not sure what the answer is.....it's so sad to hear of teenagers ending their lives over stuff they read on their computers.....and as always the media don't help with their constant promoting of "reality" stars with their facelifts and enlarged lips....in the constant search to be glamorous youngsters need to learn it's what's on the inside that counts......but sadly they are subject to wide world criticism unlike in our day. 3.A documentary has been made on the alleged misbehaviour of Michael Jackson.....despite appearing in court on several occasions and been found completely innocent some toad has come out of the woodwork and decided he was abused by Michael....after saying in court that he hadn't......so everyone piles in as usual and the witch hunt begins....and as Mike is sadly no longer with us he can't defend himself......obviously there's a bit of cash up for grabs.......he was an odd ball but let the guy rest..............it was the same with Jimmy Savile.....Louie Theroux did a documentary on him a few years ago and couldn't find any real evidence of the accusations hurled around about him....he went to the hospital that Savile restored for 9 million pounds and the staff were adamant that there was no truth in the ugly rumours......but of course when you have passed away you are an easy target.....what I find annoying is the accusers seem to get away scot free when they are proved wrong....they should be dragged through the courts and see how they like it. 4.On a lighter note I had to laugh at an article Billy Butler put on Facebook regarding functions where there are so many prizes that the draw takes up most of the night.........it reminded me of a gig I did with the band which was a football club presentation dance....at the particular venue we went in through back door on to the stage and set up behind the curtain....what we didn't know was on the other side of the curtain was a long table with a load of trophies to be given out......as our drummer went through the process of taking his drums out of the cases (filling up the stage even MORE)....he bent over against the curtain and knocked the table off the stage with all the cups and trophies clattering across the dance floor.....OOPS.....needless to say the organisers were not happy......still...that's showbiz. 5.The song this week is entitled "What Happened To Julie?" and harks back to the days when we were young.....and how strange it is that the when those wonderful romances come to an end we never see the girl again....even if she lives close by......so we are left wondering what happened to her.....it is a track off one of my albums called "Doowop Days" which takes you back to those golden years......available from my website www.donwoods.co.uk...more0minPlay
January 23, 2019The Duke's a Hazard! The grand Old Duke of Edinburgh has been in the news for various reasons.....he was involved in a crash while he was out driving his Landrover.....which he managed to roll over...which wants a bit of doing with a car that size....but it was O.K. the armour plating saved him and he was able to walk away.....ignoring the other car he had pulled out in front of ... which had two people and a one month old child in it....who were thankfully not seriously injured......but his subjects needn't worry....a replacement car was delivered to him next day in which he was last seen driving around without a seatbelt.....so that's O.K. then......all he has to do now is to pop in and see David Beckham's solicitor.....problem solved......it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.......the woman in the other car is thinking of making an injury claim......but it does beg the question as to how fast she must have been going to hit and roll a two ton Landrover? 2.Out of interest I watched "Celebrity Coach Trip" to see if had improved any as a new series has started.........it should be called "Spot The Celebrity" as it consisted of a crowd rejects from various reality TV programmes with zero personality travelling around on a coach with Brendan in charge....who is now the shape of a beach ball and swans around waving his wrists about making sure we all know....as if we didn't....that he is gay darling.......this is a s bad as TV gets............................................we are also being treated to another wonderful programme called "Five go camping" which features five "celebs" who experience the great outdoors.....or are supposed to.....they spent most of the programme sitting by the fire in a cottage drinking champagne before that idiot Joe Swash had to leave because he had anther job on and the other chap had to vanish because he was on Coronation Street....plus Bobby Davro had to stay in bed because he was ill.......and this is supposed to be entertainment?......beam me up Scotty... 3.Weekend T.V. has definitely lost its way.....after the tripe that is on each Saturday night I am reduced to watching Dancing on Ice on Sunday night....which I record between 6 and 8 o'clock and watch between 8 and 10 o'clock....thus skimming through the plethora of adverts.....this is how bad things are.....not only is the programme a tenth rate version of Strictly Come Dancing we have to sit and watch so called celebs learning to ice skate...which is bad enough but throw in an overweight mouthy "celebrity" diva from some dreadful reality show who has no idea yet gets through to the next round on the public vote (as if)...I must say she does remind me of a couple of characters from the Viz magazine......it does make me consider going back on the road........the alternative is to watch snooker on the BBC...all night!!......very good for insomnia I suppose. 4.The news reported the wrecking and burning of plaques and statues of war heroes.....I've never seen the point of this sort of behaviour and what possible pleasure the yobs get out of t....it's easy to say throw them in jail but it's not as simple as that....you can't legislate for idiots....it goes to prove how we are still evolving with some a long way behind the rest....with the huge gap in class the the royalty don't really help as they openly distance themselves with the likes of Prince Philip's recent behaviour......which must make some feel isolated ....what is sad is the lack of imagination in the general public....they automatically follow and believe all the rubbish the media throw at them......maybe "imagination" could be a school subject? 5.I have never done drugs despite playing in a band for 55 years.....in fact I couldn't tell what one looks like...which youngsters of today find very strange....sex drugs and rock and roll was a very minor part of the 60s but magnifying it makes it all seem a lot more exciting I suppose.....however back in the 70s I wrote and recorded a song called "I'm Only Happy When I'm Stoned" which led to a chance meeting with a wrestler called Adrian Street who was in a recording Studio in Chester (U.K.) looking for a song to enter the ring to.....he liked the song but asked if it could be changed to suit a wrestler....the song became "I'm Only Happy Breakin' Bones" which we recorded and was his entrance song to his many bouts.......we became good friends...a friendship which resulted in two albums of wrestling songs and a tour of the southern states in the U.S.A......and here it is...more0minPlay
January 16, 2019Googie the Liverpool DuckThere is a move afoot to cease sending people to prison for sentences less than 6 months.....naturally this has been received with mixed opinions......but unless you have been closely involved with the prison system....having either been inside or knowing someone who has it is impossible to know what it's like.....it's very easy to say "they deserve it" but everyone is different......whereas one criminal may be non-violent another may be the opposite....and you can't legislate for the latter as they are probably incurable. 2.I watched a programme on Les Dawson's life.....it simply showed what a comedy genius he was....and there was another programme on Bob Monkhouse....again a very clever man.....it's such a shame that stand up comedy has lost its way.....however it hasn't completely vanished as we still have the likes of "Would I Lie to you" and "Room 101" with the likes of Frank Skinner....Lee Mac and Rob Brydon who are very funny so there is still hope......and speaking of comedy someone put a picture of Prince Edward sitting with his wife in a horse drawn carriage with a long line of medals on his chest.....it was suggested he must have had an exciting time in very short time he was in the Marines.......surely this could be construed as impersonating a soldier?....still I suppose his mum loves him. 3.Forget the problems throughout the world.....the news headlines have been taken over by Andy Murray's sore hip.....he was interviewed and broke down in tears.....it could be the end of his career!!!!....what will he do??....apart from joining the overpaid TV pundit fraternity...and perhaps opening a tennis school...not to mention making TV adverts...and putting his name to tennis gear....what will he do?....oh I feel so sorry for the poor chap............................and on the subject of TV there is a new programme called "The Greatest Dancer" which is another past it's sell by date format.....the programme is bad enough with the talentless Cheryl Cole on the judging panel but on come these hopefuls who want to become dancing stars with the camera shot constantly flitting between them and the judges and the audience....so the viewer misses most of the moves.....the producer should go back to taking holiday snaps.....same old tripe. 4.As I said last week we are a nation of moaners and complainers yet most people don't know what REAL problems are.....I support an organisation called The Cheshire Cats which is based in Wallasey in Wirral and we raise money for sick and underprivileged kids through our weekly jam sessions.........a collection of vintage rockers from the 60s play rock and roll classics to an enthusiastic loyal crowd and all the money raised goes to various charities.....we have recently given £3000 to a children's hospice called Claire House on Wirral which will make a difference to youngsters lives.......it is one of many donations we have made to them over the years.....when you visit the likes of these places with the wonderful staff you realise the THESE are REAL problems......maybe the moaners should pop in some time....they might learn something. 5.The song this week is one which has been very kind to me.....it is called "Googi The Liverpool Duck" .... it was written for a friend of mine called Penny Page.....who had a ventriloquist act with a very colourful duck.....back in he day my band was sharing a gig with her...she was then known as "Peppy and The Popettes".....Googi being one of the Popettes....and I told her that the duck was the star of her show and I'll knock a song together for her and Googi.........I did this (in a very short time) and gave it to her... four years later she presented me with the record she had made of the song.....she performed it on The Palladium and it was featured in a film alled "Priest" sung by a church choir......all from a chance meeting at a gig....more0minPlay
January 09, 2019What is it?It strikes me that we have become a nation of moaners....especially the older generation....you go on Facebook and there they are with the grumbles and outrage about politicians and the way the country is run.....yet no-one does anything about it.....the easiest thing in the world is to criticise .....if you can do better get off you backside and get on with it.....and we seem to be stuck in the past....we keep harping back to the good old days with endless programmes on The Beatles etc....with old guys forming bands and going out with their shades and cowboy hats....and playing for nothing.....very strange....coupled with this we have the P.C. brigade...the feminists...and the easily offended telling us what we can and can't say or do.....there's only a handful of them so why not just sweep them aside and ignore them?....I certainly do. 2,I watched The Greatest Showman over Xmas....a great film which I thoroughly enjoyed....great songs....also unfortunately Mary Poppins was on.....now I have always been told I look like Dick Van Dyke (can't see it myself) so my son tells my grandson while they are watching it "There's Granddad"....after which I was bombarded with questions from him about Mary Poppins....which I have never seen.......to make matters worse the next day Chitty Bang Bang was on.....which I have never seen...so I faced a lot more difficult questions about that one....my son found it all hilarious.....the nipper will go back to school and tell all the kids his Granddad is a film star..........why did I have to be Dick Van Dyke?....why couldn't I have been The Fonz? 3.I also watched Michael Macintyre who I quite like but his show is becoming very samey....and he had a comic on who sounded like he'd had a comedy by-pass....do people not know what "funny" is these days?.....the P.C. brigade have seen off the ones who could actually make us laugh.....and I noticed Lee Evans was on one of the channels so I had a look to see if he had improved in any way.....'fraid not.....he was dreadful...and after 5 minutes I couldn't take any more.....yet he was playing to a full stadium which says it all......it's a shame that the younger generation don't know what comedy is as they have never seen any. 4.I watched The Voice the other night and they featured Lonnie Donegan's son (I notice you put this up on Facebook)...he was good but are we expected to believe that Tom Jones didn't know him?.....and the job they made of the song Lonnie wrote for Tom....rehearsed or what......"it was meant to be"...yeah sure..........Lonnie would now be 87 so he must have had the lad late......we owe a lot to Lonnie who started us all off with skiffle in the late 50s....it gave us the ability to play simple stuff.....eg Tom Dooley only had two chords...........but the problem with talent shows is they are too contrived for my liking.....we have grannie and the family in the wings ...why?....and they go on and get "judged"......they should put acts on who are good enough and give them TV exposure and let them take it from there...."judging" shouldn't come into it....then they would learn the game. 5.The song this week is called "Worrizit?" and is a jingle I wrote back in the day for Debbie Jones on Radio Merseyside......it was a daily competition on her radio programme where the listener would hear a noise and ring in and try and guess what the noise was....it was quite popular at the time.....I have just found this in a drawer in my studio....I haven't heard it for years....sadly it never made the top 20...can't imagine why........more0minPlay
January 02, 2019Hold Yer Plums.I was beginning to wonder what Bradley Walsh does in his spare time...then I realised he doesn't have any....because he is NEVER off the television......last Saturday for example....3.30 The Chase with Bradley Walsh....8.oo The London Studios with contributions from various celebs including....you guessed it...Bradley Walsh....9.00 Bradley Walsh presents a programme on puppets......not forgetting Doctor Who and Law and Order and The Palladium....oh yes and he has a feature coming where he travels abroad with his son.....not forgetting East Enders..............it's not that I dislike the bloke........but it would be nice to have a different face on the tele FOR A CHANGE......Kathryn Ryan is another....she is virtually on every quiz panel....and I've yet to find out what she actually does....I think she is a comedienne......I'll take her word for that. 2.Radio Merseyside (your favourite station) has not renewed Billy Butler's contract for the coming year.....this has caused outrage on Facebook......Billy is now 76 and has been on the station for 47 years and was told in no uncertain terms that he was out.....the public response has been overwhelming....despite the fact he was only on two afternoons each week.....apparently the powers that be are looking to attract a younger audience....obviously not realising that youngsters don't listen to the radio nowadays.....I think one of the problems is that the present hierarchy are from Manchester and don't get scouse humour....thus they scrubbed Billy's "Hold Your Plums" feature which was popular all over the world.....however....knowing Billy he will sort something out.....I think the BBC owes him a bit more than a swift goodbye....but that's the way it goes in the entertainment business. 3.I was interested in a TV interview with The Searchers......or the two original ones....John McNally and Frank Allen (the bass player that took over from Tony Jackson back in the day) are retiring.....but it was obvious McNally wanted to carry on (...as "The Searcher"?)......Frank said he had had enough of road repairs and diversion signs which added hours on to the travelling......or could it be he couldn't face one more rendition of Needles and Pinsa........I can see his point.....I packed in playing professionally a bout five years ago because I was sick of it after 50 odd years....some carry on for the ego trip....hence the shades and cowboy hats etc. which is fine but not for me....I keep my hand in by jamming once a week for our fundraising organisation (The Cheshire Cats) which I enjoy but have no desire to go back on the road......it's a young world out there....let 'em get on with it. 4.HMV are going under apparently.......when will the high street realise that you have to move with the times.....I've said it for years...the music biz has had it....the glory days and the champagne breakfasts are over.....it's all about the internet these days and PRICE.....the general public are not interested in loyalty they want things as cheap as they can get them.........and with modern technology you can make a record in your bedroom and put it on YouTube where it goes world wide....so who needs Abbey Road or the radio play?....and it's difficult getting publicity on television.....unless they can fit you in around Bradley Walsh. 5.The song this week is a little tribute to Billy Butler.....I was asked to write this for him and Wally Scott back in the day.....it was designed as a theme tune for his popular programme "Hold Your Plums" which was a quiz game featuring a one arm bandit...hence the rather double entendre title......I don't think the beeb used it....obviously not P.C......can't imagine why.....when I hear it now I suppose some folk might be "easily offended"....as if I could care less....it's a shame George Formby isn't still around....he would have taken it to the top of the charts....more0minPlay
December 18, 2018In My Christmas Stocking.Meghan Markle's dad is very upset because she isn't talking to him....and doesn't answer his texts etc...so Piers Morgan is straight in with an interview with him.....he sympathised with him and made a point of saying as it was Christmas she should get in touch....I'm still trying to puzzle out what it has to do with anyone else other than Meg?....Joan Collins was on the same programme and said Meghan's dad has been in showbiz long enough to know better....and good old Joanie scoffs at feminism....that's why I love her.,,,,she is a REAL woman...who says it like it is. 2.There was a comedian on morning TV who has been criticised for refusing to sign a contract which laid out what he could not say in his act to prevent anyone being offended.....the document was hilarious....it covered EVERYTHING from racism and sexism to ageism and physical heightism......he should have gone on stage and read out the words on the contract it would have been hysterical....it's such a shame that people take notice of these humourless self opinionated holier than thous.....and there aren't many of them....because they a killing comedy stone dead...so some people are offended ...SO WHAT?....go somewhere else with your boring friends and let the rest of us have a laugh. 3.I don't like Christmas..I never have..(bah humbug)...mainly because it magnifies everything...especially certain past sad moments like bereavements and lonliness... etc....and I always think the ridiculous amount of money spent in the shops could be put to better use in a lot of cases....we still have homeless people living on the street while the royals and the overpaid politicians are swaning around with their obscene riches........the erecting of small heated shelters in various locations would surely not cost much and would solve most of the problem........and I notice Tony Blair has come from under his stone saying we should have another vote on Brexit.....might effect your fortune eh Tone? 4.On a lighter note...Katherine Jenkins was on TV promoting her latest album.....and at the risk of upsetting the feminists...she is a stunner....easy on the eye or what?.....there was a programme on a few years back called "Best Views in Britain" and she presented the episode featuring Wales....I wrote to the letters page of a TV magazine stating that as far as I was concerned Katherine Jenkiins is the best view in Britain......it was letter of the week for which I got 15 quid....thank you very much....if I ever meet her I'll tell her....once I have removed the stupid grin off my face.....oooh sorry if I have offended anyone....... This week's song is yet another Christmas classic and is taken from a musical I wrote for a local radio station (which we discussed last week......it features one of the characters telling us what he got for Christmas....it is called "In Me Christmas Stockin'"...more0minPlay
