  • Getting More Cooperation and Feeling Appreciated with Michelle Runnels

We women love taking care of others. It's part of our DNA.

But far too often, we do it so often that we lose sight of who we are as people, what we want, and even what we like to do. We know what everyone else likes, what they want, what their dreams and desires are. But when asked about our own, we seem to be at a loss.

Sometimes we take such good care of those folks that we live with, that they become dependent on us - which can feel good, until we need some help. And then, when we ask for the help, it doesn't come.

It gets frustrating, and we become resentful. And then we find ourselves yelling about stupid stuff - which isn't even the real problem.

    So what is it?

In episode 18 of the Done with Dieting Podcast, my guest, Michelle Runnels, shares so much amazing knowledge and so many truth bombs that you'll be laughing, nodding your head along, and saying 'yeah, I do that.' When it comes to how we ask for what we want in our relationships - our relationships with other women, our children and our partners.

  • 17: Urges

Traditional advice says that it takes 21 days to get into a habit that we want to create or out of a habit that we don't want to do anymore.

Anyone who has tried to change their habits knows that it might be a bit longer than that - especially if we've had the habit for most of our lives.

I used to get so frustrated with myself. Why couldn't I get my shiz together & just stop eating after dinner? I mean really - why was it so hard? "You just DON'T eat after dinner. You just don't do it anymore," I'd tell myself.

I tried distracting myself with adult coloring books, painting my nails, chewing gum, all the things.

    But they never worked.

In this episode, you'll learn how to stop doing habits that don't serve you anymore; whether it's the endless snacking that happens between when you come home to when you eat dinner or go to bed, that mid-afternoon sugar craving, or even something as simple as not scratching mosquito bites.

Tune in to learn how to manage your urges.

  • Want to be happier?

Who doesn't want to be happier?

I don't think I've ever met anyone who has said, "Nope. I don't need anymore happiness in my life. I'm just about all tapped out."

For much of my adult life, I was on the quest to find more happiness in my life & so I did all the things. There is one practice that I've settled on that has truly allowed me to become happier in my relationships, my life, AND with my body.

Listen in to discover the secret that can help you too.

  • When other people are losing weight, but you're not

It's hard not to feel like something is wrong with us when we try so hard to lose weight and it seems like everyone around us is having massive success. Sometimes we feel jealous, petty, and down right resentful.

We want to be the supportive friend, but far too often when other people around us are having success in getting consistent with their exercise habits, discovering great new ways of preparing vegetables, or are completely beaming because they feel like they've discovered their magic formula, what we really want to do is punch them in the nose.

    But we can't do that.

In this episode of the Done with Dieting Podcast, learn the 3 secrets that can turn that negative thought pattern around so that you can use other people's success as motivation instead of deflating you.

  • The Truth about Carbs

Carbs!! They're so tasty & yet they have such a bad reputation. Everyone says that we have to limit them, or go no carb.

    But is that really true?

In this episode of the Done with Dieting Podcast, I'm sharing the truth about carbs - which carbs will help us to feel energized and alert, and which carbs are going to leave us with a carb-hangover.

Nutrition doesn't have to be confusing. But when we look to other people to tell us how we should be eating, it can get overwhelming - especially when what we desire is what we're not 'supposed to' eat.

It can leave us feeling deprived and frustrated.

Learn the truth about carbs so that you can eat them with confidence, and without guilt, shame or any other negative emotion.

  • HAES with Deb Lesko

I love the Maya Angelou quote "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better." As a society, we've been taught that being overweight equals disease, being unhealthy,  lazy, stupid, and a whole host of other negative qualities that have nothing to do with our size.

So, it makes perfect sense that in our quest to be seen as 'enough' that we would try to conform to traditional standards of beauty - which for many of us are just simply unattainable.

In this episode of the Done with Dieting Podcast, I've invited my guest, Deb Lesko, to introduce us to the health at every size (HAES) movement, because I believe that the movement misunderstood.

Tune in to learn what the movement is all about, and how adopting some of the movement's beliefs can help you feel better about yourself.

  • B Minus Habits

Want to learn the secret to success in creating better habits?

For sure, I can tell you what won't get you there:

    • All or nothing thinking
    • Needing to perfectly execute the diet or exercise program
    • Thinking that there's a right way and a wrong way

And so, what's the antidote to those methods? It's B minus health. Leaning into it. Getting 1% better every day. Picking the low hanging fruit. 'Good enough". Whatever you want to call it, it all adds up to the same thing: getting incrementally better over time so that you don't burn out in a flame of glory.

When we apply good enough to our health, it sounds like we aren't trying. I mean, when we say, "It's not just good. It's good enough." it implies that we could do better.

And maybe we can - but at what price? What if the answer to getting to our goal was barely making an effort?

In this episode of the Done with DIeting Podcast, learn how to combat all or nothing thinking, needing to do it perfectly, and needing to do it the right way.

  • Creating CALM & FOCUS with Ryan Lanier

There's no doubt that if we have an organized space, and systems in place to stay organized, that it will free up time and energy, and support the healthy habits that we want to create or maintain. We THINK that it takes a ton of time and work to get everything under control - when we look at our surroundings, it seems completely overwhelming!

But today's guest, Ryan Lanier from Organizing4Good shows us how spending time getting organized ahead of time will actually save time when we don't have time to spare.

If you're someone who identifies as a 'hot mess', and can't seem to get things under control - AND you're self-esteem is taking a hit because of it - you do not want to miss this episode.

  • 10: How to Feel

Most of us view our own emotions negatively - like they're inconvenient, embarrassing, they're unnecessary, they get in the way, or they're feminine and silly. And for others, because they haven't been in the practice of feeling their emotions, the emotions can be scary or unpredictable.

But emotions can be useful tools because they give us clues to what's happening around us and what we're really thinking. Additionally, they're part of being human - and there's no escaping having them.

More often than we realize, emotions are what drive our decisions - even for the most logical among us. So, getting in touch with what we're feeling and why can lead to a really profound awareness about why we do what we do - especially when it comes to being able to keep commitments to ourselves, procrastinating, or getting our shiz together.

In this episode, learn the steps to become emotionally intelligent so that you can become aware of your emotions, and have better control over them, and therefore your life.

Are we entitled to lose weight? So many health & fitness gurus tell us that if we want to lose weight, all we need to do is eat less and move more. So, it makes sense that when we do those things - eat salads instead of pizza, or broccoli instead of brownies - and then stand on the scale, and the scale doesn't reflect what we think it should, that we'd get discouraged.

And of course, when we feel discouraged, we're more likely to give up on whatever plan it is that we're on.

So many of us resentful towards our bodies - that they aren't holding up to their end of the deal. That our bodies are different. Bad in some way because they don't look like they should - look like what other people's bodies look like - or do what they're 'supposed to'.

What if your body could NOT be wrong? But maybe y'all are having a mis-communication issue, which is resulting in a bad relationship?

This episode covers the mistakes that many of us make when losing weight from a dieters mindset, and how to improve your relationship with your body so that you can stop fighting it, and learn to love it - or at least come to accept it.
