In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with Peter Solapides, founder, director, and chairman of Southern Cryonics. Peter shares the fascinating journey that led him to establish Australia's first cryonics facility in Holbrook, New South Wales. 

From the intricate process of patient suspension to the complex legal and ethical considerations, we delve deep into the world of cryonics and its potential to revolutionise our approach to death and dying.

Peter's enthusiasm is infectious as he explains how cryonics works, dispelling common misconceptions and painting a picture of a future where death might be merely a temporary state. 

We discuss the demographics of cryonics supporters, the challenges of long-term planning, and the profound philosophical questions that arise when we consider the possibility of extending human life far beyond its current limits.

What if the unexplained feelings of grief, anxiety, or disconnection you carry aren't entirely your own? In this compelling episode, I sit down with Michelle Scheibner, author of 'Hush', to explore how the secrets and trauma of our family history can echo through generations, impacting our lives in ways we never imagined.

Michelle's journey of discovery began when she found an old leather suitcase filled with documents after her mother's death. These papers revealed her father's hidden Jewish heritage and his harrowing escape from Nazi Germany - a history that had been carefully concealed throughout her life. 

Through her work in epigenetics and inherited family trauma, Michelle explains how traumatic experiences can actually modify our DNA, affecting future generations. Her research, backed by groundbreaking studies from Dr Rachel Yehuda at Mount Sinai School, demonstrates how children of Holocaust survivors and mothers present at Ground Zero show identical anxiety markers and cortisol levels as their traumatised parents.

As an adult orphan who lost both parents and later her significant other, Chris, to cancer, Michelle's personal story illustrates how unresolved family trauma can manifest in our lives. Through narrative therapy and deep personal work, she transformed her understanding of grief and identity, moving from a place of blame to one of appreciation for the resilience she inherited from her parents. 

Her journey offers hope and practical guidance for anyone seeking to understand their own unexplained feelings or recurring patterns.

How do we ensure that every individual, regardless of their cultural or spiritual background, receives dignified and inclusive care at the end of their life? Today, we tackle this vital question with two incredible guests who are championing change in aged and palliative care.


In this episode, I sit down with Tonina Gucciardo-Masci, Community Engagement Manager at Palliative Care Victoria, and Nikolaus Rittinghausen, Manager at the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing. Both are working tirelessly to ensure that aged and palliative care services in Australia are culturally inclusive and respectful of each person’s individual needs.

Tonina shares her experience collaborating with multicultural and multifaith communities to promote equitable access to palliative care, dispelling myths and advocating for care over cure. Meanwhile, Nikki dives into the innovative strategies his organisation employs to make aged care more inclusive, from diversity mentoring to practical tools like communication cards available in over 70 languages.

Together, we explore the challenges of adapting systems designed for a "one-size-fits-all" approach, the importance of culturally appropriate food and spiritual practices, and the role of open conversations in breaking down taboos around death.
