IS THERE A POSITIVE SIDE TO NEGATIVITY? ...

Negative is negative right? So at first glance this question appears to answer itself. But is there more to negativity than its own inherent dynamics? What if it's applied in a way that avoids disaster, or prevents a mistake being made? What about being negative in response to something that really is negative such as someone telling you untruths about another person? What about being drawn into a negative plot or decision? In these cases there certainly is something positive about being negative - it can save you. It is at times, very easy to be negative - that's generally speaking of course. Sometimes, careful study of a proposal that initially sounds good reveals that, after digging around, it's not as good as it first seemed. Which might save you from a disaster or some considerable loss. According to what Lee unearthed in preparation to this episode, there are claims that it's in humans' DNA to be naturally negative. Perhaps, well, okay, maybe that's a survival thing. Interesting ... So the question does have more to it than first impressions.

DOES CURIOSITY REALLY KILL THE CAT? ...

For sure, Keith and Lee really enjoy discussing some of the common sayings we use in our everyday speech as we go about our daily affairs. Sometimes we use these idioms with a general understanding of what they imply, but we don't always know where they came from, or whether they are true or not. But they do have to come from somewhere and relate in some way to whatever is being communicated. It’s whatever the implied relevance is that interests Keith and Lee, thus prompting them to ask the question. Yes, it can be answered two ways, revealing different aspects of curiosity and their respective outcomes. Curiosity is generally seen as a positive attribute that helps learning and acquiring knowledge, but can we go too far utilizing it where or when we shouldn't, perhaps abandoning the familiar and safe to find out more than we really need, or is good for us?

EMPATHY, IS IT REALLY NECESSARY? ...

We live in an age that stresses a silent emphasis on being a person who shows empathy - and, by default, putting ourselves in the other person’s shoes. Thus, showing understanding, support, and, sometimes, putting in time and effort, along with picking up the other person’s task or workload. It is not always just understanding and providing emotional support. It can be practical. Yet despite this silent stress, is there a limit? Do we ”always” have to be emphatic, and if so how far should we go? Can there be a cost to the one being emphatic that disadvantages them? Another good question for Keith and Lee to discuss. Oh, and they are thinking about changing the name of their podcast from DONT GET ME STARTED to KEITH AND LEE UNSCRIPTED. What do you think? They would love to hear from you.

    SANDY BOLTON ...

Noosa's independent MP Sandy Bolton steps into the DGMS Studios to chat about her deepening concern for the current state of the Queensland Parliament. Conflating the parliament's culture, that needs vast improvement with an increasing lack of transparency, accountability, scrutiny and representation.  Sandy outlines why reform can greatly improve our parliament in effectively tackling critical matters such as affordable housing and the cost of living . Despite her evaluation of the condition of Queensland Parliament, she speaks with optimism that, with growing public awareness relevant change can be attained. As the big issues filter down to local application, Sandy's call for an improved Parliament is not just for Queensland, it is for the benefits that flow on to her Noosa electorate. The electorate that she is a fierce advocate for.

WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIAL BASICS TO HAVE EXPERIENCED, AND UNDERSTOOD, TO HAVE LIVED A COMPLETE LIFE? ...

'Live your best life' is a catchcry that is well used these days. But what is a 'best life'? A happy one, a life with your bucket list all ticked off, all your goals accomplished, or perhaps a life full of all that the world has to offer, both good, noble, wild, exotic - and everything in between? 'A best life' is, of course, subjective and highly personal when viewed from an individual perspective. But are there common, universal milestones that apply to everyone that could be said to mark a complete life? Keith and Lee very much like this question. Not focusing on a happy life or a successful life (also subjective), although that is certainly part of it, but on a satisfied and fulfilled life, achieved by experiencing the essential basics of living. A life, when looking back over the years or decades, that says, 'Yes, I feel my life has been complete,' not based solely on material things but on what is freely available to us all.

IS IT TRUE THAT WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER? ...

Both Keith and Lee say no - however they do concede that there are lessons from adversity, trials and hardships that come our way. After all, nobody gets through life without internal scars of some sort. It's just a question of how deep is the cut and how much of the infliction remains. But of course this is one of those questions that could be answered either way. Whilst there's likely to be a clinical answer written in a textbook somewhere, most people would probably answer according to their personal experience. Once again, the boys enjoyed their casual chat before tackling the question, but in a world full of crazy, unsettling twists (to say the least), maybe some informal chatter about the joys of everyday living does us the world of good.

WHAT IS YOUR TRUE NORTH? ...

It's a good question isn't it? Keith had been away for a while allowing Lee plenty of time to think about what they'll talk about when Keith returned. And this topic was foremost on Lee's mind. As usual, he did some research and, along with his own thoughts, came into the studio to record this episode with some sharp insights. Who doesn't want to find their true north? What is it exactly, and are we all, whether we are aware of it or not, on the way to seeking our true north? Is it straightforward, or are there various dimensions to our seeking? They're good questions too. Although Keith and Lee hadn't sat together for quite a few weeks to chat about life's matters, as they so love doing, their old easy rapport flowed seamlessly. Lee was so keen to start the discussion, Keith had no chance to roll out his latest joke - but he did get it in after the discussion. And it's a ripper too. Well worth waiting for.

IS EVERYMAN AND WOMAN AND MAN A PHILOSOPHER? -

Most of us have opinions on life and its various twists and turns. Many, if not all of us, in wondering about the nature of life and human activity, have formulated our own answers to big questions such as: how did the world begin, does life has a purpose and how should we live correctly etc. So does that make us all philosophers? Keith was wondering if that was the case and so put the question to his friend Danny Zygourakis, an Aussie Greek living in Athens, who himself likes to ponder deeply on such matters. Danny clearly spoke about the difference between opinion and philosophy putting forward a strong case for the enduring legacy of the classic philosophers and why what they had to say is still  relevant today.

BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW RATHER THAN A NEW ONE? ...

Keith calls DONT GET ME STARTED his digital pub. A bit ironic really, as Lee is a teetotaller and Keith has cut his drinking back by around 90%. They’re just two guys happily hanging out before a microphone, tackling life’s topical twists and turns as it takes their fancy. Yet they do give each topic some thought before recording, although they have been known to detour off track a bit when having too much fun. In this episode, they barely get on track. Lee was thinking along one vein and Keith quite another until they sorted it out amid a few laughs. Lee wanted to edit it, but Keith said leave it be. So here it is … topic: Is it better to stay with the devil you know rather than seeking something better?
