Don't Know Her? episodes

  • Christine Baranski | Episode 20
Ho Ho Ho, Merry Chris(tine Baranski)mas. It’s December and in case you missed it from that terrifically festive pun, we are talking about the marvelous Christine Baranski for our 20th episode.
Christine has been on our list since the beginning and felt like the only choice for some party season frivolity, as the star of How The Grinch Stole Christmas, A Bad Moms Christmas, AND Dolly Parton’s Christmas On The Square, how could we not!?
We also took tremendous joy talking about Christine’s other fabulous film roles from Chicago to Bowfinger whilst of course not missing out on the joys of the Mamma Mia movies.
We could not discuss Christine Baranski without talking about and celebrating the great Stephen Sondheim, so we hope you enjoy joining in on that with a Sondheim-themed quiz.
We round off as always with our wish lists for this iconic star’s future film endeavors. Christine Baranski brought us the delightful times we needed during these chillier nights and we hope you can enjoy that with us.

  • Marianne Jean-Baptiste | Episode 19

We are back to talk about the fantastic Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Marianne is perhaps still most fondly remembered for her Oscar-nominated turn in Mike Leigh’s Secrets & Lies which we were only too delighted to revisit for the podcast. Alongside this we discuss a variety of her other most memorable performances in the likes of The Cell, Peter Rabbit, In Fabric and Fatman - where she plays the wife of Mel Gibson's Santa Claus! As always we then have our staple quiz before taking flight into the future by sharing some of our wishes for Marianne’s film future - let’s hope some powerful people out there are hearing these! • John Leguizamo | Episode 18

We are back again with another episode of Don’t Know Her and this time round we're moving away from our usual celebration of female actors and focusing on something new...a straight man. But don’t fret, it’s going to be worth your while as we are talking about a unique and brilliant talent, John Leguizamo. John will be known to many for his work with the likes of Baz Luhrmann in Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge after launching his film career in the wild 1993 combo of Carlito’s Way and Super Mario Bros. Proving himself as a staggeringly versatile actor, Leguizamo racks up an impressively varied filmography which we took great joy in dipping into. Alongside the aforementioned we also chat Ice Age, The Happening and To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar…what a mix! As always we then have our staple quiz and sharing of future wishes for John’s film career. So please join us and enjoy. • Sarah Michelle Gellar with Daniel Massie | Episode 17

Welcome back for another episode of Don’t Know Her and to our second of two Spooky Month themed episodes. We are especially delighted to welcome our very special guest Daniel Massie along to this episode. Tasked with bringing a fitting choice for a Halloween episode Daniel (a lifelong Buffy fan) brought the Vampire Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar. We were thrilled to revisit 90’s slasher-movie favourites Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer, alongside the iconic Cruel Intentions. We, of course, have to also dip into the more offbeat entries, namely Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales - and don’t fret there will be some Buffy The Vampire Slayer chat too. Daniel then faces off against Michael in the quiz this week before we take our usual dip into fantasy land with our wish list for future Sarah Michelle projects. We hope you enjoy. • Kathy Najimy | Episode 16

Welcome back for another episode of Don’t Know Her. In this spooky month of October, we felt it appropriate to turn our sights to Halloween favourites and were immediately drawn to 1993’s Hocus Pocus and landed on the delightful Kathy Najimy for this episode. Beyond Hocus Pocus, we relish the opportunity to talk about the Sister Act films alongside the far less joyful Rat Race. And, as always, we have quiz time before taking on our usual duty of suggesting some future film fantasies we feel would far better serve Kathy. So please join us again. • Harriet Walter | Episode 15
Welcome back for another episode of Don’t Know Her. This week we are chatting about our first Dame! It’s Dame Harriet Walter.
We dive on into a shared favourite of ours, Ang Lee’s 1995 Sense and Sensibility and relish in getting to talk about the wonderful Harriet in this lovely film. We then jump on in to a few of her other key film moments such as Atonement, The Sense of an Ending and the lovely Herself. We also could not skip the chance to gently veer into the world of television to talk about her turn in the unmissable HBO Drama Succession.
Scott then takes the opportunity to test Michael on his Dame knowledge before leaping into the future to present our yearnings for Harriet’s future in cinema. We do hope you enjoy.

  • Joan Allen with Declan Cashin | Episode 14

This is an extra special episode as we are joined by our first ever guest, journalist (and self-proclaimed film nerd) Declan Cashin. We asked him to come armed with someone special to discuss and he delivered in spades with the marvellous Joan Allen. We wade on into the headlining entries in her film career such as her Oscar nominated performances in The Crucible, Nixon and The Contender alongside other unmissable favourites such as The Ice Storm and the undoubtable action classic Face/Off. Then it is time for a head-to-head Joan quiz-off and of course our obligatory wishes for her future film career. We hope you enjoy.

  • Kylie Minogue | Episode 13
We are Spinning Around with excitement for this episode! We’re discussing an unquestionable icon, Kylie Minogue. Although a familiar name to many, do you know much of her film career? We decided to take a Step Back In Time with the Princess of Pop and take a closer look ourselves.
We discuss her film beginnings in The Delinquents and Street Fighter before dancing through the years whilst not missing the opportunity to gush about beloved favourites Holy Motors and of course Moulin Rouge! where she plays The Green Fairy.
Kylie we can’t get you out of our heads and hopefully you won’t be able to either. So please come join us once again.

  • Helen McCrory | Episode 12

This is a very special episode as we're discussing the film career of Helen McCrory. We recorded this back in March 2020 as our 3rd episode but shelved it after the sad news of Helen's passing in April. As her birthday soon approaches, we felt we should share the episode now to celebrate a wonderful career and person. Join us as we talk about our favourite Helen roles in films like Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, the Harry Potter series and A Little Chaos. We hope you enjoy the episode. • Regina Hall | Episode 11
Welcome back for another dose of Don’t Know Her and in this episode we had the absolute joy of talking about the effervescent Regina Hall.
Regina has made her movie mark as a comedic tornado, tearing up the screen with hysterical turns in The Scary Movie franchise. From here she stuck closely to her comedic beginnings, becoming a key player in numerous ensemble comedies such as Think Like A Man, Death At A Funeral and About Last Night. Recent years have seen her shine as bright as ever in new comedy classic Girls Trip and the under-seen gem Support The Girls. We discuss the prominent moments for Regina and of course send our pleas to the Gods of Film once again for what would delight us in her film future.
