Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
In this episode, we’re wandering into a Parisian bookshop with 2004’s Before Sunset, starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke and directed by Richard Linklater. With a script developed by the director with the films’ two stars and previous collaborator Kim Krizan, this film stands as the sequel to Before Sunrise and forms the second instalment of the Before trilogy. Tonight we’ll be sitting down to a coffee with Celine and Jesse, keeping an eye on those flight times all the while. To quote Jesse, as you move through life you realise that most of the people that you meet are trying to get somewhere better, they're trying to make a little bit more cash, trying to get a little more respect, have more people admire them. In this episode, we’re wandering through the streets of Vienna with Richard Linklater’s 1995 film Before Sunrise, starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. Written by the director with Kim Krizan, who had previously appeared in the Linklater movies Slacker and Dazed and Confused, this movie is the first in the much-lauded Before trilogy. Tonight we’ll be playing pinball with Celine and Jesse, missing a play about a confused cow in the process. Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
In this episode, we’re galloping in to spy on 1994’s huge Arnie vehicle True Lies. Written and directed by a little-known chap named James Cameron, this movie was based on the French 1991 French comedy La Totale and became the third highest grossing film of 1994. Jamie Lee Curtis won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Cameron was given the Saturn Award for Best Director and the horse was shamefully overlooked. Tonight we’ll be rewinding our Walkmans with Harry, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and ripping off our sleeves with Helen, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. Are these two one of the most intriguing married couples in 90s cinema? This gun’s for hire, even if we’re just dancing in the dark.

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
In this episode, we’re walking down the aisle with 1971’s A New Leaf, written and directed by Elaine May. Based on a short story by American writer Jack Richie, this movie was May’s directorial debut and made her only the third woman ever in the Directors Guild of America. Though when studio executives made edits to her original darker, three-hour cut of the movie, she tried to have her name taken off the project and unsuccessfully sued Paramount when they decided to release it anyway. We’re kind of grateful they did. Tonight we’ll be looking at mysterious ferns with Henry, played by Walter Matthau and Henrietta, played by May herself. Are these two a match made in a botanical journal? Let’s discuss. The only difference between us, Cat, is that I am a man and you are a woman and we don't have to let that interfere if we are reasonably careful.

In this episode, we’re freeloading rosemary flatbread paninis with 2009’s bass-slapping bromance I LOVE YOU, MAN. Directed and co-written by John Hamburg - who had had huge success penning the scripts for Meet the Parents and Zoolander - this movie was the third collaboration for Jason Segel and Paul Rudd, who had previously worked together on the films Knocked Up and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Tonight we’ll be discussing the unlikely connection between Sydney and Peter. Does this relationship touch on a kind of rush lots of us look for in our lives? Or should we be content with a summer salad and Chocolat?

Welcome to 'Don't You Want Me?' - a podcast series taking a lighthearted look at the most relatable, intriguing and dysfunctional relationships in film.
In this episode, we’re jumping on a bus with Frank Capra’s 1934 romantic comedy It Happened One Night, written by Robert Riskin. Lead by Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, the latter being paid several times the salary of her male co-star to appear in the film, this movie was one of the last pre-code romantic comedies to be released and is one of only three films - along with Silence of the Lambs and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest - to have been awarded all five of the major Academy Awards - Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. Tonight we’ll be dunking some doughnuts with Ellie and Peter, and perhaps gnawing on a few carrots too. Are these two young people deeply in love? Or are they just ungrateful brats?
