Sorry for the delay! Summer is such a busy time of year...as is the fall and winter and spring.  Really, all year is always busy! BUT we promise this episode is worth the wait.  Please welcome Katie Bishop, who is a punk rock, vegan edge, queer, femme, classically trained musician.  

We learned so much about the classical world, offshoots of the classical word, and what it's like to be a punk in the classical scene.  Katie's music highlights the importance of identity, implicitly and explicitly, incorporating themes of queerness, femininity, and bdsm & kink.  

And on top of it, we didn't even get to talking about the coffee house she is opening in Brooklyn!

This episode's guest is Lilian, aka Tha Vegan Baker and owner of My People Records.  Lilian grew up in South Brazil and currently lives in Berlin.  She talks with us about Brazilian hardcore, including a ton of bands (that will be linked on the My People Records blog we will share with you ASAP) as well as why she started My People Records.

We felt an urgency to get this episode out as soon as possible because of our guest, Maha from NO Man.  Maha is the daughter of Palestinian refugees, and she has been a lifelong activist for Palestinian rights.  In this episode, Maha gives a firsthand account as to what is happening to Palestinian people on a daily basis. She also shares a ton of resources to learn more about the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and what you can do to help right now.

Our guest for this episode is Rikki from West Coast hardcore band Dying For It, as well as new XVX band Enact (PDX).  

Rikki talked with us about what it is like to grow up as a Chicana in the California hardcore and punk scene, how it is being a new mom, and what she and her husband are doing to bring social justice into their everyday parenting.

Our guest this week is Kayla from the Winnipeg metal band, Vagina Witchcraft.  They spoke to us about what it was like growing up black and queer in the Winnipeg scene.  We also talked about Kayla's passion for poetry and using their poetry in their activism.  Kayla is a wealth of knowledge, and this episode sums up only a small part of their life in Winnipeg.  We hope to have Kayla back soon to discuss even more of their activism and work in Canada.

TakeHomeMB: BIPOC-run art space within Winnipeg, Manitoba.  It's a fairly new space, and they've just completed their first art show, "Embodied: They Hold Their Own," complete in partnership with the Kinfolk curatorial team, of which Kayla is a part.  There is a link to their website on their Instagram page where you can take a look at what they are trying to do for the community via activism, advocacy, and BIPOC-oriented care. 

We're back! After a short hiatus, we return with our new friend Tanner.  Tanner grew up in Winnipeg, Canada, going to local Christian hardcore and punk shows. At 19, she went on her first tour with Figure Four.  Later, she became the tour manager for Comeback Kid and is now the assistant tour manager for Parkway Drive. In this episode, we will discuss what it's like being a woman on tour, as well as how the pandemic has put a halt to touring.  Tanner currently works at Evil Greed in Berlin, where she resides.  Check out the links below to access the information from our talk with Tanner:
