Series Title: The Great Ones
Series summary: What is true greatness? Some of us are striving after it. Others of us have given up on the idea. Others wonder if it’s even something worry to aspire to. The Lord wants us to aspire to true greatness. But His idea of greatness and the world’s idea are very different. But what if you could be great in His eyes? Wouldn’t that be a goal worth chasing? This series we’ll look at some of the unsung heroes mentioned in Scripture. People whose names may not quickly come to mind but are considered to be truly great by the Lord.
Week 1: What is Greatness?
10/25/2026
Main Passage: Luke 7:24-28
What is true greatness? Is it money, fame, power, accomplishment, legacy, etc.? What should we esteem as true greatness both in ourselves and others. It’s important because we will all chase such greatness in some way. But God’s estimation of what is great is far more important than what the worlds deems to be great.
Week 8: The Christ-Centered Life
10/18/2026
Main Passage: Hebrews 13:20-21
Jesus is the only One who has led a life completely pleasing to the Father. But He now lives in us and will help us as we seek to live in the same way. Keeping Christ central to our lives guarantees we will live a life that pleases Him.
Week 7: What does this life look like?
10/11/2026
Main Passages: 1 Thessalonians 4:1–8, Hebrews 13:16, 1 Timothy 5:3-4, 1 Timothy 2:1-6
A life that pleases God is marked by purity, generosity, care for others, and prayerful dependence. These practices reflect His character and shape us into people who honor Him.
Week 6: What about when I fail?
10/4/2026
Main Passage: Ephesians 4:30
Believers can grieve the Holy Spirit, but God’s love does not change when we fail. Repentance restores fellowship, and His forgiveness is abundant, complete, and cleansing.
Week 5: How Do I Know What to Do?
9/27/2026
Main Passage: Romans 12:1–2
Living a Christ-centered life is simple: obey what you already know and keep your heart open to His leading. Discernment grows as your mind is renewed, and daily obedience brings joy to God.
Week 4: What is Required to Please Him?
9/20/2026
Main Passage: Hebrews 11:6
Pleasing God requires faith. This requires trusting Him in active obedience, not simply lip service. How do we live in active faith daily?
Week 3: Is It Possible to Please God?
9/13/2026
Main Passage: Colossians 1:9–14
We often assume we are too flawed to ever please God, but Scripture teaches that pleasing Him is both possible and expected. God is already at work in us, and we please Him as we grow, not only when we are perfected.
Week 1: Who Are You Trying to Please?
8/30/2026
Main Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
Who are we trying to please in life? We all start by trying to please ourselves by default. But paradoxically this doesn’t actually lead to a joyful life. Instead, we should learn to live for the One who made us, loves us, and saves us. Living to please the Lord actually gives us the life we were created for.
