  • Episode 134: The Future of Specialized Tech, Echo Buds & iOS Accessibility
In this episode of Double Tap Canada, Steven & Tim are joined by Shelly Brisbin to take a look at what’s new in tech this week. The show kicks off with a possibly controversial question, just what is the future for specialized tech? Does the high price of these devices and improved accessibility in mainstream tech mean that hardware such as video magnifiers or CCTV etc just won’t survive in the long-term?
Next up, Robin Christopherson from AbilityNet demos the Amazon Echo Buds. Does having the Alexa voice assistant always at hand, or should that be ear, make these the must have wireless ear buds?
It’s then on to iOS 14 and possible, or hoped for, accessibility features. An easy way to save and transfer your accessibility settings between devices is on the wish list for Shelly, and will Apple finally be making the home screen more customisable?
The show wraps up with a quick look at the recent hardware released by Microsoft, but although the Surface Go looks like an interesting device, will Steven be able to get past his anger over the ‘missing Insert key’?

  • Episode 133: Hands On With The New iPhone SE, Pixel 4A Rumors & Keeping Track Of iOS 13.5
In this week’s episode of Double Tap Canada, Steven, Shaun & Tim discuss, argue and laugh their way through this weeks tech news. But just what is distracting Steven?
First up, with Steven & Tim both grabbing the new iPhone SE, does it live up to the hype and will Steven really dump his iPhone 11 Pro in favor of the more affordable offering from Apple? Also, can the rumors of a lower starting price for the upcoming iPhone 12 be true?
Moving away from Apple, it’s on to the Pixel 4A. With the success of the Pixel 3 & 3A, can Google deliver another excellent, feature rich smartphone at a truly affordable price? Shaun seems to think so.
Next, it’s on to iOS 13.5 and it’s inclusion of a contact tracing API. This allows app developers to create apps with the ability to keep track of who you are in contact with, how long for and how close to them you were. Can this really help with the fight against the Corona virus and are people right to be concerned about privacy?
Finally, with the upcoming Apple Watch Series 6 rumored to be announced in June, what do we expect it to offer? Sleep tracking seems to be almost certain, but why does this feature make Shaun yawn?

  • Episode 132: Drone Deliveries, High End Headphones & Smart Watches
Marc Aflalo returns with Shaun Preece to talk tech in another episode of Double Tap Canada. That is, as long as they’re not taken off the air first….
Marc wants to talk about drones, but as they require line of sight to fly, Shaun doesn’t seem that interested, until, the topic of drone deliveries is mentioned. Are we close to a time where you’re next online order will arrive at your door via drone? And more importantly, how are drones being used to help during lock down?
Next, Shaun tells us of an upcoming accessibility feature in iOS 14 that may be of interest for anyone with a hearing impairment. After a brief discussion on just how heavy should an iPad keyboard be, Marc walks us through his impressive headphone collection. Just how far can you go to get the perfect fit and sound and at what cost?
Finally, it’s on to smart watches. Despite there being far more choice now, why do we always come back to the Apple Watch? What is it that Apple does that the others are missing and what exactly are smart watches for anyway?

  • Episode 131: Mac Mini Mishaps, Google Braille Keyboard & E Sports
Join Marc Aflalo & Shaun Preece as Double Tap Canada returns to take a look at what’s new in tech this week. Well, that is assuming Marc can quickly find a replacement computer…
The new iPhone SE comes up for discussion again this week, with Marc hoping that the rumours of a bigger Plus version are true. But Shaun isn’t so sure it’s needed. Staying with smartphones, Marc gives his verdict on the dual screen LG V60 and wonders just how can accessibility work with multiple screens?
Next, we hear from listener Michael who tells us how he’s getting on with the new Google Braille Keyboard for Android phones and Jo asks for recommendations for a Bluetooth keyboard.
Finally, Marc finds he is actually a fan of E Sports after his favorite team, the Montreal Canadians, use the video game NHL 2020 as a way to engage their fans during lock down. But, could this be a new way to enjoy sport even after the current social distancing ends?

  • Episode 130: New iPhone SE Announced, Android Confessions & Google Braille Keyboard
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any stranger, Double Tap TV’s Marc Aflalo joins Shaun Preece to host this week’s episode of the Double Tap Canada Radio Show. But before diving into this week’s tech news, can they track down Steven Scott?
The big news of course, is that Apple has launched the long awaited iPhone SE 2nd generation. With the body of an iPhone 8 but the performance of an iPhone 11 and at a very reasonable price point, there’s no doubt that this phone is going to be incredibly popular. Throw in the fact it still has a Home button and Touch ID and it’s sure to be a favorite among the visually impaired community too.
Next, Marc tells us about his new gadgets, including the iPad Pro 2020, LG V60 dual screen Android phone and, if Shaun lets him, the Oculus Quest VR headset. Is the iPad really a replacement for a laptop? Will Marc ever switch to Android and why should we care about virtual reality as visually impaired people? Unsurprisingly, Shaun has an opinion on all these questions…
Following on from the DTC teams request for fitness suggestions, we hear of a new high intensity workout skill for the Echo called Body Coach, why monitoring your heart rate is important and why Marc or Shaun won’t try a spinning class ever again.
Finally, it’s on to the new Google Braille Keyboard coming to Android, how people are making sure people don’t get to close to them and why attending conferences like WWDC etc could be very different after the lockdown ends.

Double Tap Canada needs your help this week as the DTC team decide it’s time to get fit. We’re looking for your suggestions for accessible fitness apps, skills, gadgets etc.
Next, it’s on to the new security measures in the popular meeting app Zoom. They will make your meetings more private, but why do the changes upset Shaun & Tim?
Finally, after talking about accessible online options for working at home, it’s time to look at what is out there for fun. Accessible gaming is widely available on every platform, but what games are we currently playing on our smart speakers?

  • Episode 128: Audio Editing, Audio Conversion & Unrecognizable Face Masks
Double Tap Canada is back, and following listener feedback from last week’s show, this week we’re diving into the world of audio. It seems there’s a lot of you out there who want to record your own podcast, and now might be a good time to give it a go.
Shaun will be running through Audacity. Showing you how to record, open and edit audio in this free and accessible audio editing app. That is, as long as he finishes the feature on time… Staying with the audio theme, next, Steven shows you an easy way to convert audio files using the online service ZamZar.
Plus, what bugs has Steven found in iOS 13.4? Why is he longing for Touch ID and just when will Tim be able to get his new iPhone 9?

  • Episode 127: LIDAR Love, Remote Desktops & Zoom
Brace yourselves. The Double Tap Canada team finally get around to the long promised, or should that be threatened, task of singing the A Team theme tune. And just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, they sing it in the bathroom.
Moving on to the tech, this week the team discuss the possible implications of the new LIDAR sensor in the recently released iPad Pro. Steven tries out a new accessibility feature in Mac OS and shows us how he uses Chrome Remote Desktop to work from home.
Next, Shaun gives an overview of how to create and join meetings using the popular Zoom Cloud Meetings app. But the question is, who will he invite?

  • Episode 126: Self-Isolation & Envision Glasses
The Double Tap Canada team start this week’s episode in a slightly strange mood as they, like everyone else at the moment, try to make sense of exactly what’s going on in the world today. As self-isolation, panic buying and working from home begins to impact on all our lives, Steven even starts to view tech differently.
Next up, we talk to Karthik Kannan from Envision AI. As the company starts taking pre-orders for their new Envision Glasses, just what features do they offer and how do they work? Could this be the first wearable device that actually delivers the features and functionality we’ve all been waiting for? Karthik explains all.

Steven, Shaun & Tim return to discuss, laugh & argue their way through this week’s tech news in another episode of Double Tap Canada.

Next, we hear from Blind Bargains J J Meddaugh as he comes to us live from the show floor at C Sun. With some companies not attending due to the recent global health concerns, what has caught J J’s attention at the biggest assistive technology show around. The new braille writer keyboard from Orbit Research certainly looks interesting.
In another High Speed How To, Shaun shows you how to enable and use the built-in magnifier in iOS. It’s great for low vision users and, even better, completely free.
Finally, we delve into your emails. From talking blood pressure monitors, broken canes, more audio description woes and correcting Shaun’s mistakes, we love hearing from you, and there may be some questions you can help other listeners with. You can email us at this address [email protected]
