  • Episode 104: Steven In Canada & the Made By Google Event 2019
While Tim Schwartz is off cruising the world, Double Tap Canada breaks new ground this week by, not only having Steven Scott host the show from Canada, but also having an actual real-life Canadian, Marc Aflalo, join the team. After a quick talk about just what Steven has been up to in Canada it’s on with the tech goodness.
After Stevens surprise announcement last week where he declared that a Windows laptop was definitely the way to go for him, it comes as absolutely no surprise to anyone that this week he’s completely changed his mind and bought a top of the line Mac Book. Will he be able to explain himself or is it just because he couldn’t resist the amount of money he saved by buying it in Canada.
Next, it’s on to the recent Google Event, with such new devices as the Pixel 4, Pixel Book Go, Google Wi-fi, Pixel Buds and Nest Mini was there anything about the event that interested the team? And will Steven & Shaun even let Marc talk about Googles game streaming service Stadia?
    Spoiler alert. No, they won’t.
Finally, Steven and Marc recently visited Microsoft and filmed some segments for an upcoming Double Tap TV episode, but can Shaun get them to reveal any secrets of what they saw there? And why were they even allowed by the server room?

With updates to the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro range, plus a whole new form factor being introduced in the form of dual screen devices, Shaun was impressed, but what about Tim and Steven?
In the second half of the show the team is joined by a listener to discuss the strongly rumoured iPhone SE2. With the body of an iPhone 8, but the internals of an iPhone 11, is this the must-have 'blind' iPhone. And what is the big attraction, is it price, screen size or Touch ID?

  • Episode 100: Jaws For Kiosks, Amazon Robots & AR Glasses
"Double Tap Canada reaches it's 100th episode this week so we'd like to say a massive thank you to the listeners and everyone who supports the show.
Joining the Double Tap team this week we have Larry Lewis from the Paciello Group. He tells us of the work they are doing on making kiosks accessible to the visually impaired. Touchscreen kiosks are becoming more and more popular and you will find them in banks, hospitals and restaurants. However, currently they are virtually impossible to use if you are visually impaired. Larry explains how a specialized version of Jaws could be the answer.
It's then on to the news, with Amazon recently announcing an event on September 25th, just what do we expect to see unveiled. And why would a Amazon Echo robot mean Shaun gets a divorce? Also, does some discovered code in beta software from Apple mean that we will finally get the Apple AR glasses? And why should we care?
Finally, it's on to listener feedback. With comments on using tech in public and a question on how to forward text messages in iOS."

  • Episode 99: Apple Event 2019
Double Tap Canada dives into the Apple Event this week, well, that is, as soon as Steven finishes his sandwiches...
First up is Apple TV. This video streaming service will be available on the 1st of November for $4.99 US a month and you'll also get 1 years free subscription with a purchase of an Apple device. With the promise that every show will have audio description, could Apple TV be the best VOD service for the blind & visually impaired, or could a lack of content be it's downfall?
Apple also announced Apple Arcade, another subscription service costing $4.99 US a month. For this price you will be able to download and play a selection of games. Tim is impressed but Shaun is far from convinced.
It's then on to the hardware, Apple Watch Series 5, iPad and, of course, the new iPhone 11's. Was the promised 'innovation' there or did it's invite get lost in the post?

  • Episode 98 - Secret Steven, Public Tech & iOS 13 Features
Steven Scott goes all James Bond in this episode of Double Tap Canada, as he’s broadcasting from a secret location. However, he quickly crumbles under interrogation from Shaun & Tim and reveals all.
First up for discussion this week is experiences of using tech in public. We talked about the safety aspects before, but there has been some conversations on social media suggesting that visually impaired people worry about using tech like a smartphone in public, as it may lead to people thinking they aren’t blind at all. We ask users of the Vorail app for their experiences.
Next, the WebAim survey is underway again, which always leads to some very interesting information about just how accessible the web is and also what assistive tech people are using.
Finally, it’s on to Apple. Steven, Shaun & Tim talk about their favourite feature coming in iOS 13 and also just what are they most interested in hearing about at the Apple Event on September 10th.

Great news for people wanting to try out the video assistance service, but why could it lead to Steven being the first person ever banned from Aira?
